Our newest baby Platypus 'Storm' has emerged from the burrow for the first time. Keeper Jess Thomas introduces us to Storm and explains what a great first time mum Wadderrang is proving to be

Did you see Dan Povinmire's tictoc where he was so excited about being invited to visit this nearby zoo that got a few platypis? (As in multiple platypus)
I'm so overjoyed as an adult to learn more about the personalities of my lifelong favorite animals, the platypus. They're even MORE loveable than I could have imagined.
Hello Strom! Gotta love when she's going around and around trying to climb that log. It looked like it was out of a cartoon. LOL. I'd love to hold a little platypus one day :)
Sorry to break your bubble but your selfish asf because their near threatened and your stealing them from their mothers aka supporting animal trafficking and they have poison and the Australian government dosent allow to have them as pets
Storm! Love the name. What a little cutie! Got two bonded brothers (cats) that a rescued as 8 week old kittens from a life of being feral. I named them Stormy and Cloud!
thats incredible that it can be born, then 4 months underground , never seeing day light and then can start swimming there is something about babies knowing how to float too ( if done properly of course )
Platypuses or platypi are like experimental projects of leftover parts of nature. It’s an evolutionary hodgepodge of species: the duck (bill and webbed feet), beaver (tail), and otter (body and fur), and has venom (snakes). a mammal, a bird, a fish, a poisonous reptile. you name it. what a cute contradiction-a mammal but lays eggs. a mammal that’s lousy on land, but very adept in water. a very adorable looking shy creature, but packs a poison that causes extreme pain. a lovable irony. they’re so odd yet so wonderful. Nature went very creative with this one.
