The Black Seminoles Of Mexico, In Mexico, the Black Seminoles settled primarily in the states of Coahuila and Texas, near the border with the United States. They were granted land and established several communities, including Nacimiento, Nacimiento de los Negros, El Moral, and Pilares. These settlements provided a degree of autonomy and protection for the Black Seminoles, who were able to maintain their cultural traditions and identity.
The connection between Juneteenth and the Black Seminoles lies in their shared history of emancipation and freedom. The Black Seminoles, who were originally slaves of the Seminole Nation in Florida, played a significant role in the struggle for emancipation and self-determination.

Mexican cultural food is traditionally African food such as rice, beans and so on. That in itself tells you the people came from Africa at some time long before there was the country of Mexico, which was in the 1820s. And definitely long before the Spanish colonized the land and genetically changed up the phenotypes of most the modern day Mexicans we see today.

Mexicans have Filipino ancestry. Genetic studies indicate that about a third of people sampled from Guerrero, Mexico have Asian ancestry that matches populations in the Philippines. This ancestry is thought to have originated in Southeast Asia, specifically western Indonesian and non-Negrito Filipino sources, and arrived in Mexico around 1620 CE.

Amazing work, Ace! I legit cried when African contributions to Mexican culture were brought up, especially when Dr. PHC talks about how people try to pretend African DNA is just a recessive gene and not really part of Mexico's makeup. You're not culture vulturing, you're shining light on a piece of us everyone else pretends doesn't exist while shutting them away. You're bringing awareness to a group of folks long kept in the dark. For once, I feel seen. When I explain that my dad's side of the family is Afro-Mexican, people look at my skin and act like I'm either crazy or making it up, meanwhile my dad and grandma dealt with horrible prejudice and being called "negros asquerosos" (disgusting blacks) and all other vile insults when they were in big cities like Reynosa and Tampico back in the day. When I explain stuff like horchata and jamaica being an example of black influence on Mexican culture, I have to hear a whole stupid thing about how I'm wrong and that there aren't any Black people in Mexico, just really brown Mexicans. Your work completely rips this type of ignorance a new one. Your work matters and I hope you keep it going. The experiences and contributions of Afro Latinos everywhere need to be seen after being kept in the dark for so long.

You know, I think Ace experience goes beyond finding Africans in Mexico. Whether the Olmec are African descent or pure native, is somewhat indifferent to the real point of this documentary. It is my perception that he is trying to acknowledge the existence of black people in Mexico. We may never learn the real origins of every racial group in this planet, but it is a wonderful attempt on his behalf to bring this knowledge to light and give these people an opportunity to be recognized for whatever is worth

ACE I am also a documentary filmmaker and journalist and I have to say that you are doing a wonderful job. I actually filmed over 15 years ago in Veracruz state and captured the city of Yanga. ( Afro-Indian Mexico a hidden legacy). Would love to connect and do some collaborative projects about the diaspora.

Absolutely superb video brother. Love the off the grid tips. I’m trying to get there myself initially thought it was too dangerous. Headed to Guatemala to see Mayan culture soon. Thanks for this video!!
