Anton Peffenhauser (1525-1603) was one of the most important armourers active in the great armour-making city of Augsburg throughout the second half of the sixteenth century. Active for more than fifty years, Peffenhauser must have enjoyed one of the longest working lifetimes of all Renaissance armourers. An astute businessman as well as a skilled craftsman, Peffenhauser led a large workshop with an almost unparalleled output, with scores of his armours preserved today in museums around the world. The Wallace Collection alone includes seven complete Peffenhauser armours, for the joust and tourney, as well as numerous other armour parts. His extraordinary achievements will be discussed by leading Peffenhauser expert Dr Holger Schuckelt of the Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen (State Art Museums), Dresden and Dr Tobias Capwell, Curator of Arms and Armour at the Wallace Collection.

That set of twelve armours has to be one of the most expensive team uniforms ever.

I don't think being a master at the age of 20 was strange in those days. How young would they start as an apprentice ? So maybe he had already 10 years of experience. Just look in the Royal Navy in times of Lord Nelson. Most of them started at a very young age so by the age of 20 those men were very experienced officers who the crew respected.
