yes - I was in Iraq in 2005. Not every area was real nice.. but the chance that a war correspondent spent much time in the field, or even carried an M4 is unlikely. There's plenty of questions that can be raised about JD Vance's military service, and what that consisted of.

As a veteran myself. The one thing I hate the most is when a fellow veteran tries to qualify another veterans service. As a US Marine myself I am disappointed at JD Vance. He should know better. Everyone who has served, did so willing to give their life for this country. Wether they served one day or multiple decades. it just come to show you he's lost complete touch of what average Americans and American veterans really sacrifice.
@@kumaranmani he was also, however, in the unique position of being able to do a great deal for veterans, not only at home, but who were being deployed themselves. He gave them benefits and opportunities to come back to. Having that opportunity is once in a lifetime, and he utilized it.

I live in Minnesota. He's a good governor, but i wasn't sure about Walz as VP at first. After seeing him speak on the national stage, i think he's the best choice. I first wanted Kelly but now I'm on board with Walz.

Hey Chuck he didn’t say he just didn’t want to go. He filed paper work to retire in February 2005. He planned on running for Congress. His unit was not deployed until later that year. He served his time.

We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war, are only carried in war,”. He never said he was in a combat zone, but he was certainly participating in the war. You can nit-pick about him not being in Afganistan, but he still carried weapons as part of his deployment, supporting combat troops as part of the war effort. The reason they are saying that he stole valor is because he was claiming to be higher up in the military than he actually was. Look it up before it disappears. It’s on RU-vid. @@tracy08161967 That's a Military Tradition, its called being "Frocked", either because of congress, or education, if you are promotable and there is a billet for Command Sergeant Major, then a E-8 can take that position (offered) and while he is in that position he wears the rank and is called the rank i.e. CSM or 1SG.

Walz didnt claim a rank that he didn't earn. As a Civilian you never heard of Frocking, When soldier of lower rank who are promotable are assigned a billet of higher rank, its a sign that the military knows you are trustworthy, and promotes you before you get the rank and pay.

As for Walz retiring, he had already put his papers in months before they got the order to deploy. He had served for 24 years and was preparing to run for Congress. He was also 41 years old at that point. The "oh he just didn't want to go" attack line is patently false. He didn't know his unit was going.
He is truly the perfect pic. People just don’t get it. The man was an NCO in the military. Anybody who knows someone who served in the military will tell you the NCO’s are the backbone of the military. The group that gets it done I have a friend from high school graduated served his country for over 20 years in CO on his particular base where he serves guess what that group is known for getting it done. Officers might be the ones who lead the ones who host the meetings and what not but the NCO that’s the one making sure everything is done. Everything is ready. I have another friend from high school not nearly as close as the first she is an NCO in the military due to retire this year she will tell you noncommissioned officers they get it done. I personally was privileged to work beside a former NCO retired when I was in high school just as a high school student. There was an officer who let the ROTC program and an NCO that did everything that kept the program running. When the officer retired, guess what it was the NCO that kept it going for the next decade. No disrespect to the officers out there, but when we got two NCO’s at my high school, that’s when things picked up. If the master sergeant wasn’t getting it done, his tech sergeant was getting it done. Guess what Kamala Harris needed right now she needed a running mate that could get it done. She literally has a running mate that she can go up and say hey we need to do XY and Z and guess what he’s going to pick up the playbook understand the strategy and execute. Disregard the power of a good NCO.

It bugs me that another Veteran would disparage a CSM(E-9). ShayD Vance accuses Walz of not serving in a war, then in the same breath says Walz abandoned is unit during a Combat Deployment, either ShayD is stupid or ignorant, as a unit cannot deploy to combat if there is no war. Infantry, Artillery, and Cavalry those are the primary Combat Specialist, while Shayd was in an Air Wing (Cav) he carried a camera, lets think about that 9mm film vs 155mm Artillery, The only thing ShayD has to boast is the Marines School of Infantry, but one can imagine that he was "That Guy".
Walz never set foot in a war zone country. "a unit cannot deploy to combat if there is no war" What? He served during part of the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan and quit the month before his unit deployed to Iraq. He was the highest level leader in his unit and left them to go on their own.

He applied for retirement, which takes a couple of months to process, at which time he was replaced. Otherwise he would have hit a wall we in the military call Stop-Lossed in which the Military can either reactivate you if your MSO of 8 years have not lapsed or that you hold a specialty like leadership that is needed, and are ordered if need be go back to BCT/AIT or OSUT to requalify you in your MOS. You cant just leave aka ETS or Retire, its a process that you have to clear, again unknown to who haven't gone through it. Also Command Sergeant Major is the Senior Enlisted Advisor of: Lt. Cols, Full Bird Cols, and Generals, and the man held the position even though he was an E-8, that says he was trusted by people.

Just because he wasn't in a Combat Hazard Zone, doesn't mean the men he trained and mentored didn't.
Walz is the kind that would let a single mom bring her kids to help on his farm and giving them eggs they gathered, milk they milked and a loaf of bread his wife baked, having coffee with the mom. It was farmers like him that helped my mom after her divorce, feed three kids in the ‘80’s and get them out of her hair for a while doing something wholesome and helpful.
She picked Tim Walz because he was an NCO. I’m not saying she picked him because of his military record. It’s his particular position in the military that mattered. Ask any general, any officer, or any enlisted servicemen in the military, they will tell you that the NCO’s. Are the backbone of the military without them nothing gets done. Yes, generals lead yes officers give commands but NCO’s are a different breed they give commands they execute they find solutions to problems. People don’t even know exist. I have a few friends who serve in the US military and they are great NCO’s looking to retire in the near future and they will tell you while they aren’t the person in charge on their base. It’s those noncommissioned officers that get things done. It’s that noncommissioned officer that can look at what needs to be done and see the task is completed and done well. Not looking for praise not looking for attention looking for results. That’s why she chose him not that the other guys weren’t great, but this was a great match for what she needed to get done. People often overlook that.
Now wait, Walz would have been into his 40s and had a wife and children when he left his tenure with the Army, choosing not to deploy with his unit. Why shouldn't he decide to retire. He certainly earned his retirement and had showed great commitment with 24 years service and earning the highest rank of a non commissioned officer . He doesn't need to defend his military record to anyone.

Personally I have real questions about his service constituted. I was there in Iraq throughout 2005. If he (Vance) was an officer at the time, it was very unlikely that he even carried a standard M4. I imagine he was packing an M9 on his hip other then when at the range. I think he should front his dd-214 jacket.
There's an easy answer regarding comparison of military service between Walz and Vance - Offer up their DD-214. It will become real clear who is speaking with "stolen valor".

Vance's military service included air conditioned desk work for six months in Iraq while serving less than 1/5 the time that Walz did. But I guess JD "I did not have sectional relations with that couch" Vance wants to make sure you don't know that about him.
I thought Vance was pro family? Walz had children , I'm a military brat. He'd already served for years. My dad fought in the pacific, world War ll . He didn't go to nam or Korea. Plus as national guard SGM, there would have had to been plenty of fore-thought about the turnover. Walz's unit would have known the transition was coming many months ahead of time. This whole idea that he avoided deploying with his unit is a non-issue.
Walz's strength is that he's not a lawyer - not career trained in bending the truth. His resume embodies neighborly trust, not trickery and deceit or gaslighting. And many ordinary people have had bad experiences with lawyers who are by profession adversarial and very expensive managers of facts. Walz's lack of training in law is an asset that needs more attention by the media in order to understand his gut level popularity.
WALZ served 25 years in the National Guard. If he unit wasn't called to deploy to the war zone, he couldn't just go alone. Why will one attack him for not being in a war zone.

not quite. I agree there are some big questions about what JD Vance's service constituted. He should offer up his DD-214. But.. the whole world theater of the middle east is designated as "combat zone". Technically if you received hazardous duty pay, you mostly likely were in the area. But there is definitely a lot of difference between a FOB environment and field work. All the same i doubt he was expected to go into "hot" areas. He very likely was a fobbit.

Welker’s CNN clip of Emmer attacking Walz left out anchor Sara Sidner’s superb takedown of Emmer with her simple fact that Minnesota voters re-elected Walz and so were quite happy with his policies. Rep. Kildee needs to sharpen his attack…and Kristen Welker could learn a strategy or two from Sara Sidner.
