Whoever decided to add a visual component to these high profile interviews, I see and appreciate you and feel strongly that you deserve a significant raise. This was truly exciting and engaging. Thank you.
As a lifelong progressive, I've hod TONS of issues with Nancy Pelosi. However, I must admit the past year or so, she's been crushing it. Stepping down as speaker of the house, got Biden to withdraw from the race & backed Walz as the VP pick. Thank u Nancy!
Nancy has always been crushing it…I think we just haven’t always seen it. We wouldn’t have gotten rid of don’ ask don’ tell, or gotten the ACA without her. There’s probably dozens of bills that we’ve enjoyed, even just keeping the government open that was from her efforts.
It seems like she’s the only old person in the political class who realizes it’s time for her generation to pass the torch. And pushing Biden to do the same.
What a remarkable woman! She is more consequential than most presidents-and so down to earth. I love the way she goes into ‘street grammar’ saying ain’t, etc. without getting vulgar. She exudes an amazing motherly wisdom that is fascinating. 👍🥰🙏
hakeem jeffries is the single greatest threat to the working class in america. he has no political ideology outside of crushing the left and doing whatever his wall st and israel donors tell him.
She's as sharp as a butter knife. Just sharp enough to pass as effective to the unaware, but not sharp enough to actually do the job. Quite the portfolio she has there, also. Fantastic timing. Definitely attributable to her and her husband's superior intellect and not leveraging some sort of material non-public information, on account of that being against the law.
This was more engrossing, enthralling than the entire MCU. It felt like she was holding my hand, whispering the nuclear codes, and instructing me how NOT to detonate. We salute you, Master Strategist Pelosi 🫡🕊️
I can listen to her talk about her strategies for hours. This was a fascinating interview and would love to hear more from her. Thank you for your service, Speaker Pelosi.
Same! I've been ferociously listening to her interviews about her new book because inevitably the interviewer always asks her how she gets things passed, and I just find it all so fascinating. She's a pretty incredible woman and politician.
I agree that this interview was fascinating start to finish. I had never seen her in a long form interview before, and Ezra asked great questions and didn't interrupt her responses. In the The Affordable Care Act discussion she said Obama was with her all the way, despite the fact his inner circle was ready to give up. In Frontline's .." Pelosi's Power" .. they acknowledged that she almost single handedly guided that Bill through Congress despite doubts all around from Schumer, Hoyer, Reid, and, Frontline said, Obama. I think it's logical to view Pelosi as the most consequential Speaker of the House.
One of the greatest Legislative Leaders of the 20th Century. And the first great woman of power in Washington that was not beholding to a man for her legitimacy.
Look at the joker for speaker of the House We have right now , in Congress , Johnson , Who still want to impeach our President Joseph Biden , only to please Trump !!! Sick Republican politicians
The most revealing interview with Pelos I have seeni! She came to life with her love of politics which allowed me to see her in a new light. Thank you for bringing out the best in her. Masterful.
GREAT interview. Kudos, Ezra. Speaker Pelosi will go down in history as one of the most effective - if not the MOST effective Speakers. Just wow, getting her book!
So true! And Trump is still terrified of Pelosi! But he goes after the most effective heroes the hardest, eh? -the ones he knows about, that is. The rest of us can vote: you, TrueBlue; and we’ll vote up here, too. 🇨🇦 (I’m not a bot, just a Canadian. You know; like the beer.)🍻😉
Most true masters of a craft teach, then promote their best students. It is a poor master that dies keeping his trade secrets. I have had many apprentices. I can name many that have surpassed my skills. It is ego and hubris that keeps someone in office as long as Nancy.
You people are seriously naive if you don’t know what she does behind the scenes getting rich on trading stocks just prior to legislation she helps pass. And don’t give the stupid excuse it’s her husband. She uses her husband for the purchases. How is she up 51% just this year alone beating out wallatreets best analysts even Warren buffet who said and I quote. Well if I had Nancy’s magic wand I’d be twice as rich Who votes down term limits every time they are presented on the floor. Who voted for a golden health care plan for herself and her family (no Obamacare for her) any doctor anywhere, anytime no copays no deductibles
I’m gonna admit that I used to not like Nancy Pelosi, I thought she was too comfortable in her position and not willing to fight for real changes. I also thought some of the insider trading critics were a problem. But this year Nancy Pelosi completely changed my mind and I actually have so much respect for her (not that she needs my respect I’m nobody). Pelosi saw the polling and saw a huge loss coming for the Dems, the people spoke and said they weren’t excited about Joe. Whether she acted to back up our voices or acted for personal reasons at the end of the day she took action and pressured him to drop out and we got what we wanted. She also told Kamala to pick Walz instead of Shapiro, which was shocking because Shapiro is very corporate and center dem and Walz is more progressive. This year will go down in the history books as the year Nancy Pelosi saved America 🇺🇸
Not that shocking if she was reading the polls and listening to what people were saying. People are tired of the corporate dem type that Shapiro is. Pelosi knew that. She prefers her party to win more than having the person she might like more like Shapiro, so pushed for Walz.
I agree...Still have an issue with the stock stuff, although I may have picked up a few bucks here and there following her trades on unusual whales lmao. But yeah, it's sort of like a book...if you do some good shit at the end, that's the main memory people will have. And she's been crushing it recently. I've gotta respect her.
Republicans: the democrats were just lucky with the booming stock market Also Republicans: the house leader knew about future laws that would bring stocks to all time highs
@@joachim5080look at the Covid stock sellings shortly before the stock market crash and tell me that Nancy and her husband as well as other politicians didn’t act on information that the general public did not have access to
"He was not a person of any values." I appreciate that she talks about him in the past tense. Let's move on from weird little Donnie. We're not going back!!
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave us a huge shot at redemption. I still don’t understand the mechanics behind how she does it even with her explaining it. There’s something about her ability to talk to people, one on one, that is beyond normal. A real treat to experience in real time. She may have single handedly save the republic… we shall see in November.
@@SRINATHKADIAM-o6f I wish I had Paul Pelosi’s temperament and talent. Not everyone is born with an interest for business. He have worked really hard to get were he is and had a “love of the game” as it were.
Too bad she essentially has been inside trading with her husband for the last decade and making democrats look bad, all the while promising to do something about it before pulling back support
Wonderful, wonderful interview with Nancy....Can't thank you enough for allowing me to listen to this so inspiring woman in this format. Letting her kind of free range on her stories is amazing and brings back so many historic moments.
Just a great great interview. You realize just how smart and skilled Nancy is, an absolute force. Also nice to see how passionate she is, look at her body language! And kudos to Ezra and his team, they are doing a tremendous job.
Rare to be born with this level of devoted mind for politics. But first & most, for democracy. It's democracy that enables progress, progressionism & being a progressionist. Why so rare.
I hope we can learn to be additive about it. She did amazing, consequential, groundbreaking things. (And in a country where 100 years after women's suffrage we are only finally taking women seriously in politics).
I may disagree with quite a lot of Pelosi's stances, but you cannot deny she is good at her job. That's part of why Republicans hate her, is she is a strong whip for her party. Which can be upsetting when she is at odds with what I want the Democratic Party to do but I can see now why she kept getting re-elected to Congress as much as she did.
She is the most cunning tactician, by a mile, that the modern Democratic Party has ever seen. Not since LBJ have we seen someone this talented at wielding power going to bat for the good guys, and even he had an easier job than Nancy. Thank God for her.
Thank you for allowing me to better understand Nancy Pelosi. I have both adored and disliked her in my years as a voter. The dislike has nearly dissipated with this interview. What I had considered arrogance has changed to respect for purpose that she now, in my mind , has been exhibiting.
I think AOC could fit the bill. She's smart, young, and has good political instincts.. If she stays in the house, in twenty years the country will have caught up with her politically, and she'll have a ton of experience.
@@pasherri I think Kamala has the same instinct as Nancy Pelosi. Kamala won difficult races in the past against white men. As former prosecutor and trial attorney she should be able to weigh on facts and risks, and be able to to read people and opponents. Look at how she dessimates Trump in the debate. Her timing was perfect in baiting him.
Learning more about Pelosi has given me a greater appreciation for the organizational purpose of leading a party, because at the end of the day someone still needs to have the skill to gather a coalition to actually pass stuff. I think there are a lot of overly-online people who are dismissive of anyone who isn't progressive enough, without following how government actually works.
@@dave0051she absolutely cares…and far, far more than trump! Trump cares about power, money, attention, praise. Is that what you are? A provider of one of those for him?!?
@@Alphacentauri819 she's a gd criminal. You want to know how much she cares? Go visit her shit filled district. Go look at the needles and drugs and open drug use. The crime and homelessness of her district. San Francisco is a shit hole. The few businesses that have remained open have to lock up their products. Boy she cares so much. I was in San Francisco in 2000 and then again in 2023. It's not even the same place.
Not being American, but more idealistically progressive, I never appreciated Nancy.....till today. Wow. Have I been missing out on a wonderful American Icon.
Amazing woman, so smart and energetic! She spoke at my law school graduation in 1998, then a junior congresswoman from CA. We didn’t know then what a powerhouse she would become!!
I'm very proud to say I was born in San Francisco. Living in Oakland, Berkeley. The consciousness and awareness of the bay area are so outstanding. I have grown up in this wonderful atmosphere being affected by so many positive influences. It's great to hear Nancy speak about all of this.
I know sooo little about politics. But I am so amazed at the clarity of this lady. She is electric. I think I’m older than her, and in that circle, we kind of get a little skittish about age and what is coming down. But she has such a recall for this interview. Big mahalo (thx) Nancy and much Aloha from Hawaii.
I was not at all expecting that epic conclusion from Speaker Pelosi. Wow absolute chills when she mentioned getting through this night in our country with our flag still there. Powerful stuff
Perhaps the most interesting and relevant political interview I have ever watched. It’s pretty rare that us normal people get to hear the actual nitty gritty details of political maneuvering, especially in an era where republicans are so blatantly and disturbingly obstructionist
An utterly riveting interview! I’m about 3/4 into her book. In addition to intuition she has integrity and courage-I believe that’s the source of her power.
Oh , Nancy Pelosi, I admire you so much. You speak so well! You are so thoughtful and you make your education continue by reading such a wide variety of genres of literature. Have you seen the videos that speak about what was happening to the composer of the national anthem before he wrote it? He was on a British. Vessel in the harbor trying to arrange a swap of prisoners when the British started bombarding the fort there and they kept bombarding it for three hours to force those on shore to remove the flag. The story is that the flag was hit repeatedly, but patriots kept putting it back up even though it meant their deaths. I will never forget that, and that remains my most powerful reason to keep believing that citizens will not accept the “termination” of our constitution.
Thank you to this younger generation!!! The fact many RU-vidrs allow these political elders to speak is truly remarkable. I love how engaged Gen Z. I don’t care which party. Get involved!!!
She has more intelligence, decency and class in her pinky finger than all of Trump and his ilk. This was brilliant. Hello from Glasgow, Scotland 🏴 Watching events closely and hoping Harris/Walz win in November 🎉
Wow that look of determination in the end when she’s talking about ground evaluation in Michigan. That’s a look that where she outwardly showed her worry. Gotta vote. Dont let it be another 2016. Can’t lose Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and let’s throw Georgia and Arizona in there for good measure.
The question about Vance's claims that Tim Walz is a "San Francisco liberal" missed a key, key point. Vance was taken under the wing of a wealthy San Francisco mogul, Peter Thiel. After practicing law for just two years, he moved to that city to become a venture capitalist under the tutelage of Peter Thiel. It is he who is tied to San Francisco. I think Vance is defensive about his ties there while trying to be a person who can relate to rural people and failing at it. So, he's trying to connect Tim Walz to San Francisco in some negative way. It's desperate and so transparent.
Thank you Ezra for the fascinating interview. Loved it! Nancy Pelosi is just terrific. I’m a huge fan and she’s absolutely my idol. She KNOWS how to move the levers of power in our government so expertly. Really the best Speaker of the House, right up there with LBJ. I’m reading her book now with enjoyment. You’re one of my faves in journalism also, although I was quite annoyed with you for a time for your writing which played a role in the brutal ousting of President Biden. Sad for him after all he’s done, but with the emergence and fast success of the Harris Walz ticket, it does seem like it was meant to be. You are forgiven!😂😂😂 Thank you again ❤
@@JH-zr8loFor good and bad. She reminds me of a Golda Meir but capitalist As a politician myself and former conservative I admire and respect her especially after Jan 6 because that made a difference but if opposing her would never take her lightly. And I'm def social liberal myself say a in your terms AOC or Jasmine Crockett.
Weaving, she said. knowing everyone fits but where...but she had command of her memory, her language, history, history, history....present and listening. Just amazing to me.
I am so glad that she passed the torch. It has allowed her to show us more of herself and let us in on her tactics of legislating. The most effective speaker we have ever seen. ❤️🤍💙 So much love and respect for Speaker Pelosi!
Good for NYT to turn these into full-length video podcasts. Ezra should also start putting these video podcasts on his official channel for maximum reach and engagement.
That might’ve been one of the very best interviews I’ve ever heard on any topic, anytime, anywhere in the world! Wow! So insightful. The questions asked of Nancy were so well thought out and her responses were so educational and informative. Just an exceptional interview all the way around. Good luck trying to top this!
Nancy and Joe are masters of the political chess game. Looking forward to her book. I had to add, Jamie Raskin mentions in his book how thoughtful she is and how well she knows each of her members when she was leader.
