Basil seeds are used in India/Pakistan as a summer drink on a hot day. You can put them in flavored drinks or juices. They have cooling effect on the body.
We drink/eat the basil seed traditionally in Iran in the summer. We mix it with rose water, ice and water. I never knew the science behind it. My grandma always told us to have basil seeds to clear our liver :) or if we were constipated. Nice content Autumn x
@@a.r.tavares1322 I love the taste. It’s so refreshing and it doesn’t taste anywhere near basil. To be honest I didn’t know it’s basil seed until watched autumns research and thought ah that’s what we drink. I like it with rose water, has to be soaked as well. Good to leave them in water for 20 min tiny bit goes long way
Basil seeds have been used for generations in India. They are commonly used to reduce body heat and used in deserts and smoothies. The west is just learning about them. ❤ . You have to soak them overnight for best results
I know Indians with the dot know and grow so many nutritious foods I. So enjoy moringa as you mentioned before moringa oliefera and they say nothing is more nutritious and someone told me cancer of his was healed with moringa and neem oh my goodness❤️💕
My family makes this concotion whenever we have bloating, nausea, or other mild stomach problems: 1 cup of boiling water poured into 1tbs basil seeds, 1 inch chinese rock sugar, 1 stick cinnamon/cassia bark (you can add 1 inch of fresh ginger, peeled and smashed). Let them cool down to luke warm temperature and drink. It's light and easy to swallow.
Basil seeds are common food in desserts and drinks in Asia. Is's good to cool down internal heat. If you suffer from hot flushes or night heat, give it a try.
Thanks for reviewing basil and chia seeds, Autumn, I hoped you would do this video. Nerd alert: I appreciate the thoroughness of your research. I switched to basil seeds recently, because of lectins, but cost is a factor, still trying to assess the differences in my diet. Love to you and yours 🥰💕😌
Thanks John! I personally don't notice a difference between the chia seeds and basil seeds when it comes to the effect it has on my body. So for that reason, I'm sticking to chia.
Wow. This was helpful. Prior to culinary school I did not know basil seeds were a culinary delight. We used it school for deserts but did not really review the health benefits. I am going to try using it in my culinary creations. Thanks for sharing.
My husband is pakistani and he introduced me to basil seeds 10 years ago and I love them! They gel quicker and more evenly than chia seeds, for some reason my chia seeds always end up with a bunch that don't gel and are rock solid and hurt my teeth lol they are in a ton of summer drinks and my favourite...falooda 😆 I know its not healthy but it's so good
In my country (Thailand), basil seeds are super cheap. I didn’t know they were comparable to chia seeds. I’m going to switch to basil seeds from now on.
I also live in Thailand and ran out of Chia seed and researched alternatives and found that Basil seeds were cheap and very accessible - not only that the Thais use them in many different desserts and I'd noticed from my wife's soya milk drinks a Chia-like seed... lucky us!
i had no clue and they werent on my internet radar, either! amazing similarities. it's also amazing that Basil seeds seem to be well known in various parts of the world and so unknown to USA. thanks for your video and comparisons.
Been loving your channel Autumn as its been helping me with maintaining my fitness goals and outlook in life and always learning new knowledge from your channel.
Good Sunday evening Autumn. Truly an excellent video with spectacular production values. Everything looks so fresh and delicious - but of course that's to be expected from a strong self sufficient woman such as yourself. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful Sunday
Chia seeds contains lectins and are frowned upon by Dr. Steve Gundry, but he highly advocates basil seeds because they don't contain lectins and contain many valuable nutrients.
I would love to see a video about how to combine plant sources of protein, to make them more complete. There's lots "out there" on it but as we all know, just because it's on the Internet, doesn't mean it's good or even accurate info! I like having both plant AND animal proteins in my diet, and I know that things like soy is considered a complete protein, but I'm wondering if other incomplete proteins can be combined with other plants, to make them complete. Thanks! 😊
Right now I use, chia, flax, poppy, hemp, canola, always grind them, use the powder in smoothies, salads and anything else I consume. I'll sart looking for basil, love seeds and nuts they are loaded with nutrients, vitamins, minerals etc.
We heard about basil seeds from dr Gundry. Basil seeds dont contain lectins but chia seeds do. They are super easy to use and gel quickly. Very neutral taste.
@@AutumnBates most people dont realize the inflammation they get from dairy and lectins. It’s only when you remove them do you notice the difference. That was the case for me.
We Swallow the Basil Seeds not bite them in a drink so textute wise the crunch doesnt bother us as we dont feel it, we just drink it down as it feels like a cooling light sweet gel. Must soak in plain water as I noticed it doesnt absorb other liquids like sweet / milky liquid, so yeah it shouldn't be compared if your preparation method is wrong lol basil can expand a lot soaked in water to turn gel
I LOVE chia seeds; can't wait to try the basil seeds. I use chia seeds in my smoothies and I also love to add them to my bottled water. They are such interesting little creatures.ha
I am Thai.We use basil seeds all the time, don't know about chia seeds back then. Now I live in US. Chia seeds is a thing here. I didn't know basil seeds has a ton of benefits as well. I'll choose basil seeds over chia seeds. Btw basil seeds is less cruchy in my opinion. Because it plum up a lot than chia seeds. It is more jelly texture but no taste.
Thanks Lauren, I know you know grammar. It''s your everything! I recall a conversation we had years pertaining to this topic. You stated that you loved tbe idea of speaking correctly, me too...on most days!
Now do arugula seeds. I have a huge jar full of them from my garden. Very tasty. Kind of like poppy seeds. Supposedly used in Indian cooking, but I cannot find any recipes.
Look. Thank u for almost your time and videos... I'm a pretty nutrional smart person, and your videos have clarified alot answeres in my food journey last year of my life thank u.
I've never been into chia seeds, I use flax seeds, never heard of basil seeds before yet I guess if I need basil, I got flat leaf basil at my father's house :).
Hi Autumn I just came across your site. Great!!! Autumn your thoughts of over night oats? Do you have a reel I can look at? Or can you do a reel on this? Looking forward to going through your reels and forward to future ones!🙏
For Basil seeds i would soak them in just plain water, I noticed when i add syrup or milk it doesnt expand at all, so yeah i doubt it's good for pudding but good to add to drinks after soaking it in just lots of water lol it expands a lot and gives a nice gel taste
Hey, thanks for the video and I never thought about using basil seeds in that way so anyway I just bought a bag of organic Chia seeds so I’ll be sticking with those for a while and yeah, I use protein chocolate protein powder to make chocolate pudding with the seeds, so
Thanks for the informative video, Autumn. But I'm a little confused; My bag of chia seeds says they have 120 cal for 2 Tbl. So that would have 1 Tbl clocking in at 60 cal, not 48...My package also claims 10 grams of fiber per 2 Tbl serving which is 5 grams for 1 Tbl, a bit more than what you're saying here. Mine also claims to have 4 grams of fat per Tablespoon. I'm curious why the discrepancies are there...???
ALL WHOLE PLANT FOODS ARE COMPLETE PROTEINS. all whole plant food contain all the essential amino acids and none of them are particularly low in any amino acids. I have looked at hundreds if not thousands of usda, nccbd and pubmed nutriental tables. The only incomplete protien I've ever come across is for animal collagen.
QUESTION: 🤔🤔 Maybe the basil seeds are actually giving more fibre nutrition because they are absorbing the water. The chia seem to be merely hard, not processable in the gut. No?
Thank you for this video. I purchased some basil seeds about 4 months ago and kept meaning to research their health benefits. QUESTION: Do you know how they rate on the Oxalate scale? I have a low oxalate diet due to passing a kidney stone. Chia seeds are on the high side of the scale so I avoid them now.
These are cheaply available if you have access to Indian grocery stores. I have also seen them in middle eastern stores, and there is a prepared, flavored drink called sabja (not sure if it's a brand or a common name) I have seen in middle eastern stores.
I could totally hear that crunch! Did the basil seeds get stuck in your teeth like chia? For some reason, I enjoy that 😜😆such a neat video! Felt like a science experiment!
@@AutumnBates I did try Them the jury is still out I'm not sure about the smell it reminds me of something that I can't put my finger on, I don't mind it though ,Lately I've been putting my Chia seed in a coffee grinder and using that Way Mainly for so called "bread" recipes
If you buy them as sabja also commonly known as falooda seeds, you can buy them much cheaper than the health food marketted version for the same thing.
Autumn, do you think you can get enough omega3's from seeds. I've heard the bioavailability of plant based omega3's is about 6%. Your body ineffeciently coverts ALA to EPA/DHA.
Hi Charlotte! We don't sell our protein on Amazon, but I recommend subscribing to my weekly newsletter for any updates on future sales: www.autumnellenutrition.com/subscribe
The easiest way is to see how your body tolerates them. To truly test it, you would want to not make any changes to your diet other than adding/removing the chia seeds and see how the body responds. Personally, I don't notice any changes (no bloating, inflammation, fatigue, etc), so I'm sticking with chia seeds.
Goof video. I think you missed an opportunity to add in flax seeds as they are all similar. My basil has 5g fiber per tbsp. Flax has 3g but has much higher omega 3. The omega 3 is short chain though not the medium chain in fish oil. Still good but for different porpoises.
Carmel is a very sketchy brand and hide the nutritional facts which is concerning. I find Zen Basil to be the actual legitimate basil seed choice because it’s organic certified and have way more nutrients
