Just want to give a heads up on the new ZOOM F8N Pro. We loved our F8N and immediately picked the the new Pro with 32bit float and it is great EXCEPT for one HORRIFIC file destroying bug. If you use the bluetooth control to change the bit depth from 24 to 32bit or back to 24bit the recordings will be just noise, even though it sounds good in the headphones and appears to be working correctly. Probably a minor software bug but until fixed i would avoid using the bluethooth app altogether.
no adapter needed, it is built in but has to be activated by downloading a special file from their site, loading it onto and SD, holding a button down and doing a chant to the audio gods@@ivancuetowicq
I'm wondering if the 32 bit recordings and bigger sd card is the only difference between the f8n and f8n pro. I'm considering both the f8n as f8n pro. Did the pre amps and soft- and hardware also get some extra upgrades or is the rest the same?
I think there were some electronics ubgrades with the compressor and what not. But for the most part you're correct. I'd go F8N Pro for the 32 bitfloat if it were me. The big missed chance though but this is just me is that they didn't upgrade the connector for the snap off mics. Had they done so you could connect 4 mics to this with the EX H8 and do full 192 KHZ 32 bit float Dolby Atmos. Or you could use the VR snap off for the H8. Thus do the ambesonics thing with the machine it self. Shame on you Zoom. Shame shame shame! lol
Can i link 2 f8pros via timecode/bnc and sync them to get 16 tracks 32 bit (live recording of concerts?) and can i record 32bit on the computer and the sd the same, time? Which daws do support that? Thanks
I know that feeling. I was doing the same thing as I went to check my wish list after recording some thing with my iPod and going I really need a real recorder thought the files didn't get recorded but ended up recording but with the wrong date for some reason. Lately everything I've been going to get off my wish lists has been getting discontinued or replaced with a newer less functional model so I was starting to freak out. There are some good deals on the older model but if you were going to put the price up for a new one you'll be a bit more future proofed I think. Otherwise I could almost send you my eBay links, I had a few tabs open.
Hello, I'm looking for an audio interface+recorder for my drumkit. Would this one fit and whats would be the cons and pro's compared to the Zoom l-16 and Tascam model 16?
Well this is a field recorder. The two other devices u mentioned arent. But if you need an interface for ur studio, you could also take a look at RME Fireface Intrefaces. They are really good. But if you want to tweak the audio of ur drumkit while recording, the tascam model 16 could make sense. but its not flexible as the zoom f8n or an rme fireface. Thats the downside. but we had overall also good experiences with the tascam model 16.
Yes Zoom, c'mon it's 2022. Oh and a power adapter that is grounded and doesn't add hum would be nice (cough Zoom H4n pro for example of fail PSU add-on).
as somebody who just replaced at least 5 or 6 micro USB cables this year alone I can't stand that connector. Functionality wise USB-C would've incorporated power and faster data. Most likely they would not have been taking advantage of the faster data speeds unless you were using it as a card reader which it is far easier to just have a card reader. As an audio interface USB 2.0 is plenty, I have a Behringer XR18 that's 18x18 channels over standard USB and I still can't comprehend it because 10 years ago I was struggling to get 2x 2x2 USB sound cards to work on one USB port. So I would actually much prefer the mini USB, although I am slightly disappointed they didn't update that but it does mean everything physically stayed the same. As I have been pondering this purchase for 2 to 3 years my plan was to go from standard USB power banks with QC/PD compatibility to a 5.5mm plug at 12V and then an adapter cable to Hirose. To take advantage of all those juicy powering options. Yes I would've liked to have seen some updated limiters, and the ability to record to a USB device over USB-C as a third copy. But that wasn't a dealbreaker for me. And those devices already exist from another company that I suspect puts this out of the price range of most. Still would be interesting to get the official opinion on the decision, although I have a feeling most of the tooling chain for device manufacturing has been built for this device and to keep the device within the same price range would not have been possible if they dramatically redesigned it right now. Edit: I said also add if you're looking for data connectivity just search for USB mini B - USB-C Cable. I was wondering if somebody made a USB-C female to Mini B Male adapter cable as that seems like it would be handy in a bag situation and protect your port.
I never understood why all these products don't have an app for Android. And I know thousands of users requested the same over the years. Too lazy software team I guess. And I have 2 Zoom F8, love them, but too bad I can't use that bluetooth functionality
Love everything about it, minus the USB port from 10 years ago. Things are moving towards USB-C, to the point Europe is mandating USB-C. And yet you maintain USB Mini from years past… Super disappointing
