Not that my inquisitor would have anything to do with electing her, but the only one that can actually pull off that headdress is Vivienne for sure. Leliana has too much forehead for it and Cassandra looks like she's dying inside without her armor.
The problem is that Vivienne is unforgiving, manipulative, hypocritical and power-hungry (all those negative stereotypes of religious people... plus she's not even religious and seems shallow). And as the Divine... those are bad traits for the highest ranking clergyman in a religion that's going through a time of internal strife.
@@snappycenter7863 She truly is pious and devout, at the same level of Cassandra and Leliana. And yes, you need power in order to bring long term good changes, Vivienne understand that, qnd dies this for the good of the Chantry, Thedas' order and peace, and Mages wellbeing. But this is something so few understand because the majority only want see her mask and not beyond.
She’s shallow power hungry and arrogant. Divine shouldn’t be that way. I don’t think Vivienne will do things the way they should be done.. I think she will do what’s best for her.
@@dirthamen Funy, because actually the truth is that she does really cares for Mages wellbeing, peace and order. But just line you, most of tge people only want to see ger mask and that's it. She thinks for long term good changes, and truly understand how the world works, which seems to be beyond the understanding of many.
I still find it very... unrealistic (as nonsensical as that sounds) that Vivienne, a mage, was allowed to become Divine. Despite her position in the Orlesian Court, her support from the Inquisition, and her politically adept nature, after a major Templar/Mage war, you would think Southern Thedas would be fearful of any mage with that much power.
At least it makes sense that you can't nominate her directly. And that her character is pretty much all about gaining more and more political power since her harrowing made her obsessed with being in control of her own situation.
Why "nonsensical" ("as nonsensical as that sounds")? A fantasy world still has to be logical and consistent. And yeah, I totally agree that Vivienne in that position is just absurd.
I disagree. The Conclave left the power balance in the Chantry completely shattered. What used to be impossible, became possible, especially with Inquisition's influence.
I wish Mother Giselle had been an option. The again, I bet she wouldn’t like to serve in the highest position since she wouldn’t have time to tend to the people in person anymore.
After looking at each Divine I actually prefer Vivienne more then the others. If mages were fully free to do as they please they would turn into Connor from RedCliffe in origins. If they get taken out of the circle but put into training it's still the same circle or no. Vivienne actually made a better job for mages in Thedas. No idea why people hate her either, she's really nice when you use common sense when conversing with her.
This is just speculation but I feel like Vivienne will unintentionally lead the South to be a magocracy like Tevinter. If she doesn't then the next mage Divine probably will since Viv set the foundations for it. The Templar Order is on a short leash and the Seekers also serve her. So she has control of every anti-magic organisation and the next mage Divine could easily turn them into regular mercanaries like they are in Tevinter. The mages under Viv rise quickly and also gain a lot of political power. They are also in the Chantry. Thanks to this I don't think it would be an issue for the mages to have another mage elected as a divine. I like Viv but she is a control freak. She wants more power so she can manage everything easier. That leads her to make anti-magic organisations weaker by leashing them to herself and have her supporters (mostly mages) in positions of power. Right now everything is fine since she is responsible with her power and wants to improve society but I am afraid what will happen once she is gone. I think she can do a lot more good as a Grand Enchanter.
@@zsolt3871 she could be but the Divine should actually be the main one holding the Templars. Kirkwall it was like the Templars held the Chantry and in Origins the there was no one holding the Mages or Templars so they were just going against each other. It should be the Divine or someone close to the Divine(the hands maybe) in control of the templars and mages. If the mages arent watched efficiently we get a Jowan situation or worse Uldred. If the templars arent watched we get a kirkwall situation. They are like children playing with weapons. Give them authority over someone without supervision then it will turn bad. She could possibly turn it into another Tevintor but it would be hard once she is gone. Possibly more like Orlais where you have to play the Game and rise to power.
Vivienne is the best of the three. She does understand how the world works. She knows that we must keep the necessary needed institutions in order to improve them as much as possible and make them better than ever before. Plus she keeps Cassandra and Leliana as her Right and Left Hands, and will clearly listen to them and respect them. Both Leliana and Cassandra already know the Hands job and are good at it, more than as Divine (clearly Cassandra is the worst). Vivienne does have the Authority of the Maker and Andraste's Charisma. Cassandra only the Authority, and Leliana only the Charisma. Plus, Vivienne has the full support of the Imperial Throne, the nobility and the high clergy. Cassandra and Leliana only the Inquisition, and as we see people lost their trust in the Inquisition in only two years... Cassandra is too conservative, she only brings back the former institutions as they were before. Only focusing on her new Seekers, which is something she can fully do as Right Hand, as normaly the Right Hand is the Lord/Lady Seeker, so this job is suited for her, and she dies have experience in this as she was the Right Hand if the two previous Divine. But not Divine, she is way too lame at politics and public image for that. Leliana does have very great ideas about the Chantry, but she is waaaay too progressive to the point the is naively idealistic. Imposing way too much big changes in a very short amount of time, it won't works especialy in those crisis times. It reminds me of our French Revolution, people will nooded the first time, but then they will wake-up and it will be chaos. And her ideas about Mages... no, no, no, and again no. Something the fanbase loooove to forget, is that in DA lore, Mages are inherently dangerous by only being. Moreover after aaall the bad things which happened due to magic and Mages these last 50 years (more especialy these last 4 years) in addition to the historical and innitial fears of magic, do you really think Thedas will be ok for free Mages? Reaaally? By the way, the Circle is also free proper quality education (one of the best in whole Thedad), free proper food, free proper clothes, free proper beed, free proper home, free proper tools and researches and so on... it was the only real social ladder in this world. Because the Chantry took a lot in charge. All of this won't be free if Mages are not in the new Circle. By the way about Mages and Circle when Vivienne is not Divine, her Circle still win no matter what, but as an opponent not as an allie. Do you reall whant to have Vivienne against you? I don't think so. Clearly as a spymaster and former Left Hand, Leliana should have this job rather than the Divine job, as she is way better in the sadows rather than in the spotlights. She will (along with Cassandra and the Inquisitor) advice Vivienne, who in return will apply her good ideas but in the right way. Step by step, one thing after the other, in order to get people used to the changes, and turn the changes into habits.
Exactly, the fans think that mages are put in circles because of racism or xenophobia. They are not there for stupid real world things like skin color. They are there cause without proper education, they can destroy a whole city because they had a bad dream while sleeping, they can't control it, they are not bad people, but they have a incredible amount of power that releases without their input nor will. I don't support the abuse of the Templars, but letting them all be free because FREEEEEDOOOM is like giving life to walking bombs.
I'd like to add a few things: -People seem to think that Vivienne has always had a life of luxury and some even go as far as to say that she never lived in a Circle, all completely false. When you talk to her about HER experience at the Circle she literally tells you that she has suffered no more abuses from templars than she did from the nobles at Orlais, *who tried on many ocassions to kill her*. So she knows first hand what templar abuse is. -She took an opportunity, an open door, and she made something great out of it. Bastien gave her some freedoms, but she had to work harder than anyone to earn the trust and respect of The High Court as well as the Empress, because mages are feared and despised. -Vivienne is also the FIRST companion to literally ask how the Inquisitor is doing after Haven and she even comforts them. She has shown to Care about Cole and even defends Dorian and the Inquisitor from a scandal at Tevinter. She is the only companion to suspect Florianne AND Solas, she's very perceptive. -Cassandra is biased against mages ever since what happened to her brother. If a female Trevelyan mage asks her why isn't she considered for Divine her response is "Because you're a mage!". Vivienne is ruthless, but she has to be. The backlash is immediate when she's named Divine and how exactly did our Inquisitors dealt with the warring templars or mages? It surely wasn't peacefully. -The mages now have a voice in the Chantry, the institution that dehumanized and demonized them. Mages in the clergy now have an actual opportunity to educate the masses and finally be seen as much as the Maker's children as non-mages are. On top of this she, a mage, LEASHED te templars. They finally have oversight from someone who actually went through their abuse, while mages get more freedoms and responsibilities than before. People emphasize that "all true power lies with her", but that applies to ALL Divines, be it Cassandra, Leliana or Vivienne. The Divine has always held power over mages, but with Vivienne more of them can get the same opportunities she did.
@@anca9217 true that. She knows how to play the game of the chantry, nobility and of the oppressed. She knows how the real world of dragon age is, and that's what people don't like, someone that doesn't force real world society into a medieval fantasy game with magic, gods, ghosts and bloody zombie like armies. I know almost everyone wants to change the game with all the good moral actions and insert all that they believe is better, and that's what Leliana and Cassandra options are. They exist for the morality of the player not for what is actually better for the world of dragon age.
I go Vivienne most of the time, not only because she’s one of my fav characters but because she’s the only that is able to pull off that hilariously big divine hat imo lol
I can understand the other 2 as to why they were involved in the selection process of being the next divine but why was Vivienne included she's not even apart of the clergy or in any position of standing in terms of religion she's a circle mage a leader if that I don't even think it's official, she's more self appointed
