at the surface, you would think they would meet as honorable warriors, in peace, but only one of them was hoorable. ulfric issued a challenge that torryg could never have faced, knowing full-well that it would mean him killing his lifelong friend, and sending skyrim into an incredibly bloody war. all for a vanity title, and a false god. he didnt even let torryg die with a weapon in his hand, shouting away his sword as the fight began. nothing but a power-hungry coward. and before you go and challenge me claim that talos is false, im not questioning his power. im questioning his right to that power, and his deserving-ness to be worshiped. if you are at all familiar with the lore of talos, and his dragon-break, then you will know that there are 2 true stories about his life. one: the great hero. the one he advertises. and 2: the assassin. the traitor. the murderer, and the usurper. the dragon break made both of these histories true. but which one came first? which created the other? he created the dragon-break himself. he had total control over every aspect of the new history. so heres my challenge: why in oblivion would he create a second past where he was a slimy coward, and traitor? he never would, because thats not the one he created. he could never control that history. never change it. just try and replace it. with something that had a better... ring to it.

They barely know where they are, least alone who stands in front of them. Well you the player personally kill most if not all of his friends. You then proceed to obliterate his dream far worse than vermina herself could have done and to top it all off. You kill him and his liege within moments of each other and just when he thinks he's free you pop up.... In sovengarde as one of the biggest personal fuck yous possible in gaming. Since you not only kill him. But you are the only reason he gets to shor's hall by casting down alduin. So yeah he's going to be bitter.

This is supported by lore introduced in The Elder Scrolls Online, which heavily implies if not confirms that man and mer used to be one race, but evolved along different paths as the ones who would become the races of men migrated away from Tamriel to other lands while the ones who would become the races of mer stayed behind. really, I had to mod the music out cause it was so boring and didn't compliment the world at all.

I believe its a bit deeper than that, remember that Alduin is just a part of nature, the fact that you defeat him is only cuz he was weakened by straying from his path as world eater. Its implied that the gods want Alduin dead so that they can one day bring him back to end the Era as he should. Him being a man who spent so much time studying the old world and different philosophies i believe Ulfric saw this, and regrets shedding blood against his own nation, using his sword instead of his words, for in the real long run, it was all pointless.

Pretty much, It is said that there has been many worlds, or Kalpas as they call it. But then Alduin found Skyrim and the humans treated him like a god, he really liked this and decided to stay and never ended the current Kalpa. Since he was flung into the future his motivations didn't exactly change so he was just planing to do it all again, but unlucky enough for him he was sent to a time where an embodiment of Shor lives, and is also the Dragonborn, which a weakened Alduin had no chance against.

It's no "theory", Paarthurnax tells you to your face, and the Grey Beards confirm it in the end xP Though the Shor embodiment is defiantly debatable, i just always thought that Shor not being in Sovngarde confirmed that you are "him", more or less.

Yes, Talos is a confirmed embodiment of Shor, so if you believe that the newest Dragonborn is Shor, then you also believe he's Talos, but you're more just living up to the legend of Talos, his souls not reincarnated in you or anything, since Talos ascended with the Aedra.

Not really, Sovngarde is just a small piece of Aetherius that Shor has taken for himself, inside there he deposits the souls of those worthy and willing, so they may be reborn in the next Kalpa to fight for Lorkhan in the Dawn era. Any mortal regardless of race can enter Sovngarde as long as he is worthy and actually wants to go there after he dies.

Only Nords and Atmorans are BORN with the right to enter Sovngarde upon death, but any race that is worthy and willing can enter, take the avatar of ebonarm (the ebony warrior) for example.

I guess since Sovngarde is an Aedric realm, they have more control over souls than Planes of Oblivion with no proper Daedric Lord to rule them.

Shor really needed those souls.

Because Sovngarde is a small pocket of the Dreamsleeve, which is where the sleeping minds of the dead are shuffled out and recycled to and from Aetherius. Essentially, everyone in the TES universe is a puppet in a sleeping God's dream, and my extension many factors of the universe mirror the events and memories of the Sleeping Anu. Dreams are a powerful thing, and the being you meet in Sovngarde aren't necessarily the souls of the dead, but rather the collected dreams of those people that still view themselves as part of the Dream of Sovngarde. So while the "soul" of Ulfric may dwell in your weapons, the "dead dream" of Ulfric dreams itself in Sovngarde.

I tend to avoid the main quest in my first playthrough of any ES game, but the first time I arrived in Sovngarde I knew I was going to hang out for a time to admire the sight and the music.

I understand a lot of the Stormcloaks’ grievances and I believe them to be overall honorable warriors but Ulfric as a person is power hungry and warmongering and can’t see that, considering the circumstances, a united Empire is the only way the North can defeat the Dominion.

@@TheDestati The first time I played I joined the Imperial Legion and played out the civil war storyline before I finished the main story. If you do that, you see Ulfric in Sovngarde. He invites you around for tea and biscuits.

@@TheDestati I think all your points are highly valid. The Nords do place immense emphasis on tradition and they value their lifestyle greatly. And this is robbed from them by the Thalmor. The Empire's appeasement of the Thalmor would have caused huge frustrations and meant great compromises. Even General Tullius admits that he understands Ulfric's anger. But during the Stormcloak ending, Ulfric says he's going to wage a Total War policy against the Thalmor after taking Solitude. The Thalmor are essentially the real bad guys in all of this, the Nazis of the Elder Scrolls world. The Empire tried to fight them before, got their arses handed to them. They are a formidable threat - one that would take a united effort to defeat. Ulfric tears Skyrim into two and then wants to wage a war against two enemies - the Empire and the Thalmor. Just from where I sit, it's impractical and honestly bigoted and egotistical on his part. Three things a good leader simply can't be. He may have some moral justification but he's a strategic and political idiot. If you steal Elenwen's journal, she admits that a Stormcloak victory is kinda what the Thalmor want - to weaken the Empire further and strengthen the Elves' chances of world domination. The Empire makes its mistakes for sure - but they are the barrier against the real enemy.

It's presumed to be why the protagonist has no fate, at least not until we stop controlling them; it's also possibly why we even control them. If you don't know what mantling is, it's an interesting lore study. In-universe, you can essentially become an entity by doing as they would. The protag of Morrowind had the potential to become the Nerevarine, but only did so after trying to relive his life. So becoming the Shezarrine is to become the self-aware being at fault for all the world's chaos, but also the one who sets it right.

I totally agree with you about Jarl Skaal, he's an absolute dick.

There's a difference between Skaal and Maven, while both are hateful until death, Maven is someone who gets the job done and is able to control the majority of shit going on in the Rift (and maybe other provinces), but Skaal is forcing his people to participate in a fight they didn't ask for (and preventing to fight the only guy who wanted to, his steward) and is often criticized because of his childish attitude.

Nonono, let me explain what I said. It's true that Skyrim "belongs" to the nords, pointing at the fact that is their motherland. That said however, when Nords shout that, they're actually saying that any race other than the nords shouldn't stay in Skyrim, and that's why I call it xenophobia and racism. Think about this: you'll never hear a Redguard shouting: "Hammerfell belongs to the Redguards/Yokudans!". Only nords are selfish enough to think they are the master race of the men (while the Altmer are their Mer counterparts).

I Cyrodiil you're treated as an outsider if you're nord. In Skyrim, you're treated as a monster if you're an elf or argonian (not to mention banned from cities if you're a Khajiit).
