What's with all these comments with people bitching about the price? Lego puts out the Death Star, a feature build on a licensed property, charges 800$ for 5000 pcs. How is 300$ for 3500 pcs to build Castle Greyskull a problem? And by the way, Mega Construx doesn't use stickers. Not that I don't enjoy Lego as much as I do Mega, but it's beyond time building block hobbyists stop slamming Mega Construx and begin appreciating the brand for what it is. The only viable alternative to Lego and the only brand that could push Lego into being innovative again.
I just received an order from Entertainment Earth and found the Castle Greyskull set listed at 250$ in their catalog. 300$ must be in Canadian dollars. Using the Lego Darth Vader's Castle set for a closer comparison, I calculated the piece cost. Vader's Castle, at 130$ for 1060 pcs works out to 12 cents American per pc. Castle Greyskull, at 250$ for 3508 pcs works out to 7 cents American per pc. I suppose the extra 5 cents per pc is to pay for all the stickers Lego will include. Myself, I'll be picking up both sets, but next year may have to make some choices when Mega starts releasing sets under the Game of Thrones license I heard they picked up.
As a LEGO Fan and born in time He-Man coming up, i Love it . Its Great build. Cool Details und really good Figures. Im not a great He-man Fan ( i only owned 2 Figures in childhood) but this is a needfull thing. Mega is a really good alternative to Lego . I own the ST Anniversary Sets and there are great . Expecially the Box Design far better than Lego. Thats UCS Feeling to me . And the Price ....damn good .
I hope Mega Construx continues to go strong and get more sets out not just for Heman but other licenses too because they really have potential to be amazing. the Mini Figures alone are perfect.
@@Gapéllegekko "in the future, probably"... thats a solid bet, as there isn't presently one, and none was produced in the past :-p FYI there is a Roton vs Battle Cat coming out next year.
Greetings from the future. We have the Battlecat and Panthor Mega Construx toys. But it they are really difficult to purchase at their shelf price. Scalpers and hoarders got a hold of them really fast.
I am absolutely floored by the quality of this product. THey went above and beyond and paid attention to every small detail. It's worth every penny if you ask me! Great review as always Pixel Dan!
They started rocky, I had Halo construx sets and they always, ALWAYS missed a small amount of bricks. And the bricks were loose. But the recent small MOTU sets were complete (thank god) and the pieces stick together better now.
If only Mega Construx had given Monster High the same amount of love and attention to detail. Great review! Can't wait to put this one together myself. I'll be grabbing an extra if they ever go down to 60% or less. It's already down to $180 at Wal-Mart.
I build scale models as a hobby, but I have just realized that Construx(1980s Version) was my first model building experience. Oh and Air Raiders also. I will post videos of my collections in coming weeks.
Then Zodak will certainly approve of the prototype Zodak figure shown here: www.megaconstrux.com/en-us/community/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=5281&start=20
I got mine. Not disapointed in the very least. Price is ok for building toys. I remember when it was Megablox and the bricks would come loose after a month on display (looking at you, Enterprise D). I'm really looking forward to more models and figures. Snake Mountain is a must!
I hope Mattel keeps pumping out MOTU. I love this line and will keep buying. My only complaint is they are already doing exclusives that will command scalper prices.
Just picked mine up from Think Geek in Tulsa today. I told the guy "I'm the only person with a Castle Grayskull." He was like "yeah, it's our only one." Then I kinda laughed and said "yeah, that He-Man guy is here."
I'm currently building this (only the last section left) and it's such a great set! If Mega Construx comes out with more MOTU stuff at this quality level, they'll have a fan for life :-)
@@Richierich43615 Yeah. The store called me yesterday and told me that they were looking into whats going on. Hopefully I get my Castle before I get Scarglow and Stratos lol
@@christopherbevard1333 my gamestop app lost my pre order, But the stores computer says it's still there. AND their computer doesn't show any it transit.
Thanks a lot Dan, after this vid I was hooked. I ordered mine on Friday from walmart.com for $189.00 and got it the next day, Saturday delivered at my home. I sat there for 15 hours straight and got 'er done. Wind Raider coming today. Awesome vid and I love these kits. Have a great one and can't wait for the 2020 releases. Keep on doin' the vid bud. Build on Brother..... 😎
@@rickjames2.0 nope to dope Mr. James LMAO. It brought back memories of Lego building when I was a kid, added to the MOTU imaginary adventures. It was like a big peanut butter and jelly sandwich to a fluffy kid. Yes I was fluffy..... and I had to get it done. LOL, have a great one Rick.
I wanna find that, also thank you PixleDan for getting me hooked up on Masters of the Universe, if I find this set and reveiw it I wanna give you a shout out, you are amazing
OK, WOW! Finally finished my copy of the castle and I am not disapointed! So many cool features and loads of fun to build. Only thing is: what to do with all the extra pieces I have? I know what you're thinking, "are you sure you built it right?" and yep, I did. I guess I could make some field works or maybe just some random terrain...
Best brick playset ever. I am 35 years old but I might just buy it, because it's fun to build and reminds me of my childhood. Then I can display it next to my sideshow MOTU statues.
As a long time LEGO fan I love the mega con mini figure and building components with very few exceptions. Which over time has gotten increasingly better since the assassins creed line
I just bought mine a week ago. It showed up yesterday. I got it on Mattel Creations 33% off. Surprisingly it came in the Vintage box and not the updated Mega blue logo.
Overall brick grip quality has gone up since the first Halo sets from Mattel and the sets I have so far are complete (they weren't in the old Halo days). Very tempted to get this massive set. High price but about a million pieces so that's acceptable.
This is too awesome! I've never cared for legos or building but as someone who owned the orig Grayskull in my childhood this hits my nostalgia buttons for MOTU. How difficult would it be for me to come in fresh & build this thing? Are the instructions pretty clear? The parts separated out sounds good.
I had no idea this thing even existed. I'm a Lego guy and never paid any attention to Lego alternatives but now I must have it along with all the other MOTU sets.
My OCD is killing me, you need to press the pieces together better, lots of gaps. Or is it the quality of the bricks themselves? I know Lego rip-offs you press together and they slowly separate over time. Either way my OCD is acting up watching this.
Hey Dan oh, I know you review more than just Masters of the Universe products, but you're my go-to man with the mega construx sets. I'm up to date with all the kits, but I have one question for you seems how you like to interview and review products. Has there been any whispers an Orko minifigure? I know it might be too small to be considered, but Minimates brought out a Twiki with with Buck Rogers line. Just a question, he was my favorite character. Have a great one PD.
Got one yeasterday, here in Brazil, and was amazed to see that it was 300 dollars originally! I paid R$ 450 or USD 88. Was a really good price for this product, and I will join my wife, that is a big Princess of Power fan, has some Classics and is getting all the Masterverse ones, to build it during the weekend. That should be painfuly fun :)
I'd have liked seeing more variations on He-Man & Skeletor, like Thunder Punch vs Dragon Blaster or the Battle Armors. Maybe even just brown out the gray straps on He-Man & give Skeletor a cape for a more 200x/MYP style
Pixel Dan to his wife: Hey lady, I got a 12 inch toy I want you to play with Steena: tee hee really? Pixel Dan: Ya, I need this castle built by Saturday, for a review, thanks babe.
Castle Gray Skull looks really cool, but I'll have to wait and see if I can get it on sale. If I do get it though, I might have to do something different with those green bricks... I'm thinking a green bricked sewer-- for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! I already have a turtle lair built for them, but if they had a sewer to explore just outside the lair, well that would be awesome. Nice review.
Though the classic is the classic hands down and all,i chose to buy the mega construx because it is better scaled with those small figurines. The classics toy line in the original doesn't fit that good in the classic set, though the bigger and better version stands better! But this bigger set is ludacris in the pricetag as well to be honest with you and had a limited run i think.I give bigger values to the mega construx because you build it like a lego, and for the scaling with the figures. And i think that in the bigger version of this they didn't include those doors that should exist for the money you giving and the space that will occupy in your room!
Man I wish Lego would "borrow" the Mattel minifigure design like Mattel borrowed the Lego design. And make all Lego things just a bit bigger to fit those figures. How cool would it be to have Nexo Knights be in scale with Construx MOTU. 2 rivaling sci fi medieval factions.
I also want to point out the fact that the price of this fall down and they also re-released it for the ones that interested with their new logo in the box.Close to lego which i also love but they are raising the prices instead bringing them down in the sake of their awesome quality, mattel actually making this possible for the many to have the fun own it is really good! I also have high hopes for the snake mountain as well which released recently and i will wait for the price drop hopefully on that one as well! Not that is not worth the 300+ but i always love a good bargain since i bought this from amazon for 150 euros half the price they asked in the beginning in offer days! 😉
Anyone else notice all the gaps between bricks? Either Dan isn't pressin' them together all that well or MB's QC still ain't quite reached Lego level. Thats a pity too because I do like their products.
Maybe you'd know about this, but are we ever going to see Mega Construx figures again at Wal-Mart? I hear they don't carry them anymore... Fantastic vid by the way, and totally worth it's price tag--got mine when it was first released...
Very cool, I am liking the Mega Construx stuff. I am glad to see all the vintage love lately but that price tag is way high. Pricing is why I wont / can't collect Lego, and now it seems Mega Construx is going down that same path. I understand it's a big build and I can see spending 150$ on a build like this but 300$ is just to much. It's unfortunate but I am gonna have to skip this one, kinda makes me regret buying all the figures and the Wind Raider now.
