This is actually a mod of another game. Magical Hat or Majikaru Hashito no Butsutobi is the original game (which it's a lot nicer, happy and colorful). I don't know why their creators decided to change it for a monster character.
@@danielcastaneda1530 i read that magical hat was based on a comic or anime or something and they couldn't get the license for the game outside of japan, so they remade it with a horror theme
Decap Attack needs a HD/fan remake of some kind!!! Chuck D. Head is the most unique, intimidating and often at time the most misunderstood video game hero around who is sadly forgotten by the majority. His adventure is a zany, crazy and a memorable one with a slapstick kind of horror that anyone can relate too!! A guy trying to find a meaning in his own life and existence and who is sent on a at times perilous journey that is fraught with hardships on the way but with a promise of an ending that even Chuck didn't see coming but he would have to fight for in his struggle to survive?! Surely anyone can relate to that kind of story line... Regardless on how he looks, I relate to the guy far better than say Mario or Sonic. Chuck D. Head (incredible pun!!)/Decap Attack needs more recognition than what it gets!!! Luv DECAP ATTACK!!! A gem in darkness...
This is actually a very weird mod of another game. Magical Hat or Majikaru Hashito no Butsutobi is the original game (and it's a lot more colorful and happy). I don't know why their creator decided to change it for this monster character.
@@danielcastaneda1530 , yes Magic Flying Hat Turbo!!! It came out before Decap Attack which would've been 1990?! I've never finished that version even though it's kinda the same game! A remake for versions should be in order here!!!
@@danielcastaneda1530 Magical Hat was based on an anime of the same name. Due to licensing reasons, it was converted to Decap Attack outside of Japan (as was the case with many games based on animes at the time).
@Daniel Castañeda This was an initiative to follow the current trend. Back then the concept of "attitude" was something that ruled as a master. Magical Hat had this cute aspect, but in the end, the USA believed it wasn't the greatest idea to release it that way. What they did was to reskin the whole game and thus create Decap Attack.
@@AceNastyy Is there that thing where if you almost run over the edge of a cliff, and turn around he does a funny animation like in cartoons where he floats in the air for a moment before falling?
@@AceNastyythanks, I haven't played this game since I was a young teen and I am 37 now! This and Vectorman were awesome, Eswat was another favourite of mine
I remember my cousin own Decapattack we both played this every weekend along with other great mega drive games we both had theses are memories I cherish oh man do I miss the 90s
My cousin bought this game when we were teens. Those critic guys in EGM Magazine had given it only fair-average ratings, but when my cousin and I played it we thought it was really good. You just can't rely on what the game critics say. :p
Some of critics just complained because the programmers just recycled the Psycho Fox's mechanics and level design, but actually they were clever with the horror themes on this one.
Yes absolutely. Just go with your own instinct and don't let other people program a belief about something into your head. If you think anything looks good give it a go 👍
I love this game, One of the hardest Genesis games out there if you do not know where you are going or what you are doing. I remember playing this just to unlock Zaxxon on The Ultimate Genesis collection game on ps3. And this game was still freaking amazing
You better play the colorful "Magical Hat or Majikaru Hashito no Butsutobi" which is the original game. I don't know why it wasn't released outside for other other countries.
I can't even explain how im feeling right now... like forgetting literally completely that this existed and I played this until I saw the cover and heard the intro music...holy fucking nostalgia
I could NEVER get past the gorilla boss as a kid , never figured out the potions or the bonus rounds either TBH. Good memories of playing it nonetheless. Great soundtrack and theme for this game IMO.
Wow in the end they turned him into the 2.0 version of Rocky from The Rocky Horror Picture Show! This little Hero has become the Charles Atlas seal of approval!
Such a underrated game, should deserve much more recognition for being a decent platform game, though being sort of an Americanized version of Magical Hat (like the Super Mario Bros. 2 of Doki Doki Panic)
This game's horror theme and story still brings chills to my spine. Silent Hill and Outlast have nothing on this! Also DAT SOUNDEFFECTS!!!! Sound like a room full of slot machines and video poker!
Haha I remember this game when I was young!! Somehow this game scared me?? But damn I remember I just kept on dying in this game xD But overall damn I found this a nice game to play!!
This game is great, yet hard. I remember playing this and its japanese counterpart based on the old anime Magical Hat Turbo Adventure. Really fun games. :)
There is another game based off the anime Magical Hat Turbo Adventure that starred a Disney character in place of Chuck D. Head: DONALD DUCK (only available for the Super Famicom in 1995).
I prefer the original Japanese game called Magical hat turbo adventure if I'm not mistaken. I was playing it on my European megadrive with a Japanese cartridge adapter. Excellent game 🎮
Man people shit all over Decapattack and idk what the hell everyone’s weird gripe with it was because I LOVE how truly strange and original it is. He’s a mummy who shoots a face out of his fucking face. How that’s possible I don’t even know. And his name is Chuck D. Head because his body is his head. What’s not to love
The AVGN briefly mentioned this game in his Kid Kool review. He said that this game and Psycho Fox are much more refined than Kid Kool, and also stated that the Japanese version of Kid Kool came first (which is correct. Japanese version was in 1988, American version was in 1990, a year after Psycho Fox).
"Western and zombie themed version of the game named "Magical Hat no Buttobi Tabo! Daibouken" " Yup, just a reskinned game, but fun, Psycho Fox on Master System was also reskinned of the same game.
That mole boss is my nightmare, he makes the final boss look like he belongs to the first level. He is so unpredictable because you never know when he is going to lunge the rocks at you, and when he does, it is so fast that you barely have time to dodge them.
Quite funny how I've heard people say Genesis sounds like farts, but this was one of the first times as I was just skipping through random gameplay footage of a Genesis game that I genuinely kept hearing basically different farts sounds. :-o
I think most people in the UK have heard of this game due to the comic strip series in Fleetway's Sonic the Comic. I have enjoyed reading those strips as it has similar vibes to Count Duckula or The Trap Door.
A time when developers and producers didn't put their real names on the project - in japan due to the stigma of programming otaku toys and in the west because you're doing something shady. :o Zing!
wickedly dope!!!!!!! one of my all time favorite saga games hardest bosses and level at the time for me were the flying potato brain the ice gorilla and that fucking mole with the sunglasses LOL hardest level was the last leg land me and my bro desperately try to beat it we eventually conquered it i loved everything about the game the ending was great and the sounds were i think awesome except one thing those god dam!!!!!!! bart simpson fishes that jump out the water and walked.truly a classic!!!!!!!
I thought the game was great in the past and replaying it again, I can honestly say I still feel that way as the gameplay is super fun and the bosses and levels are tough, but fair (with maybe the only exception being Boss 4, I hate that Coral Creature). I like being able to find potions, collect coins for the Bonus Game, and getting the Skull which you can use to damage enemies more easily. The game gives you enough to help you out without things feeling like too much, and even when you die, the game has a level select code *and* automatically lets you continue from the start of the Island you died on. Much better than games that would have you start from the beginning and not even have a code to use. I really love the graphics, gameplay, and music of the game so much, it's one of my favorite games on the Genesis.
I just save the majority of the potions for the mole boss and the final boss. They’re stupidly difficult otherwise...this guy came pretty close to dying on both but I suppose he wanted to show it’s still possible.
You think this game is tricky? The Japanese version is one hit deaths. Still a good game, but torturous. I can't believe you can take 6 hits before you die in this one.
I can tell one thing about this game, the main Chuck D. Head is one of the inspirations of my Character Axel Green Stone for his body structure other than that Axel barely looks like him.
Having played and beaten this game (and ripped the set for Project2612 due to my love for it), imagine my amazement when I learned, thanks to this video, that you could use the whip-like things to restore your health if you shove it directly up Chuck's ass. I feel ashamed of myself now as that could've made several parts significantly easier. But hey, I beat it back then!
