Mega Evolution might get a Big Change in Pokémon... 

If Gamefreak does this it'll bring a different adventure vibe to Legends Z-A that i think will be be a lot of fun! What do y'all think, should this happen or nahh? (also it's almost May my dudes, whether that'll mean something we'll see!)

What TTar is kinda describing is the BREAK mechanic in the latter part of the XY block of the TCG. The Pokemon given the BREAK mechanic did not evolve, but are given a slight power boost and would glow like gold. He mentions Talonflame which is an interesting coincidence considering Talonflame has a BREAK card.

I’m thinking the story could be something about all Pokémon mega evolving uncontrollably and causing chaos because of xernaes somewhere and our job will be to quell xernaes and harness the power of of mega evolutions, creating the stones and ensuring Pokémon don’t mega evolve spontaneously.

Honestly, I think rather than like the Totem Pokemon, it should be more like the Synergy Burst like in Pokken Tournament, even visually it works since it has the rainbow energy as well.

oh shit, this sounds similar to my pitch of "fixing" megas that I emailed Ttar a few days ago. You've got a generic mega stone that can amp up/mega evolve every pokemon, akin to dyna/gigantamaxing

Mystery Dungeon handled this by having the alternate be a free Omniboost. Mega Shards could work with the player starting with one and each district having one as a reward, the shards increase a base stat by 50 points being sidegrades to mega evolving.

This does sound a lot like the BREAK cards from the TCG- and I am here for it. Also, Legends Arceus did have a gimmick- the strong and agile styles. I would be down for them opening up the Mega Evolution ability to every Pokemon.

I've always thought battle bond was something that they'd revamp into something that every pokemon can have. Kinda like how rayquaza can mega evolve without having a specific mega stone.

So kind of a mega eviolite? That's a cool idea. I like the idea of the stat-based shards, but i have an idea for them: Rather than being a finite resource (ie you get one or two of each and that's it), have them be something you can find repeatedly but rarely, and give the Pokemon that mega evolve some form of lineage-specific drops (maybe it could be something those pokemon give you if you interact with them at max friendship, for example), then have the way to get mega stones be that you craft them (or if they don't carry crafting over to this one, take them to an NPC that can), using one of each mega shard plus the special item of the Pokemon you're making the stone for. This makes it so mega stones are much more of a landmark; you have to work hard to get them, and potentially set your team back in some ways by sacrificing your power-ups, at least for a time, so you have to weigh the pros and cons. BUT also have it that mega shards give a slightly better buff if someone on your party is holding a mega stone (ex, if say a mega shard gives +20 to its target stat normally, it becomes +30 if they're in a party with a mega pokemon), so the temporary sacrifice has long-term benefits.

This almost exactly what I've sent you in an email a while ago so finally this idea has gotten out there! I also talked about the wild Pokemon being affected by this type of mega and you would see wild mega pokemon just like wild tera mons

Mega Shards would be given by the "Noble Pokémon" and they would increase 1 from the 5 Stats that isn't HP. The HP one would be given by a character of Galarian roots (probably post-PLA Laventon) due to Dynamaxing. These Shards would work like the Vitamins (Protein, Iron, Calcium, Zinc and Carbos) do to raise one's Stat EVs. Mega Power would work similiarly to Z-Power. Shards would probably need to be recharged by farmable items. Let's call these "Azoth Keys" and they're obtained in Lumiose catacombs, and that's why Zygarde is bothered. All Azoth Keys are gone during XY as their energy was fueled to create Key and Mega Stones from the Shards. During the events of ZA, Zygarde's "Aura Break" would make everyone's Shards split into 2 imprintable slabs. The existence of more Humans then of fully-evolved Pokémon explains why there's more Keys then Megas. Such items in ORAS's Hoenn is because its Primal Energy did the same 1000 years to Rayquaza's meteors.

Actually this gimmick You're thinking of exists in pokémon super mystery dungeon, but instead of mega evolution, those that can't have something called the awakened status instead, so I won't be surprised they had like an awakening stone or something

I personally like that idea, but my favorite part of megas is actually a new form so to add to it a bit mabey they can make it so it also affects the pokemons appearance only a bit though like if you were to Power up a Sylveon it's ribbons whuld be a little bigger. Just something small to add to it and it whuld be easy to add this to every pokemon because you're just adjusting the pokemon a bit and not changing it entirely.

And here I was thinking it would just be a temporary 15 point base boost

This could be awesome if raising the stat by 2 to 3 levels and if it's raising the base stat so it doesnt drop with haze or anything like that.

TTar has really hit on something here. I was going to comment about how "beast boost" and the paradox abilities really opened the door on this kind of idea, but then TTar went ahead and already made that connection in his video! I'll only add - I don't think they'd only give a boost to one stat, because it's not similar enough to mega evolution. It may be more like a 20 BST increase in three stats (obviously not HP, in line with other megas) I'm also wondering if they'll allow drops in stats - obviously I'm thinking dropped speed for trick room teams - which would also help the "I can't legitimately get a 0 IV legendary mon so I'll hack it in" conversation

I think za is just gonna be a story game and not have competitive play so a single star boost being widely available is good but it's not in the developers perogative

This reminds me of the Awakening mechanic in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX, where Pokémon fed Awakening seeds would reach a stronger, awakened state, unless if they have a mega evolution. If they can mega evolve, they mega evolve instead. Seems Pokémon has been toying with this idea for a while.

I mean the likely scenario is that zygard transforms the legendary pokemon, like a super sentai/power rangers type fashion. His final form is very zord like and the sena and dexio who literally dress like heroes.

I had a theory like this were you would get a mega stone that isn't for one specific pokemon, it would for for all of them and what it would do is Mega evolve them giving them a statboost, palette swap, maybe getting bigger, and potentially a new ability this would work for all pokemon, but wouldn't get rid of what we already have.

I think something else they could do is make it work like in pokemon go where ally pokemon get a power boost to their moves that match the type of the mega pokemon,. That would make megas inherently more team based and also technically give something to the pokemon who dont have megas

I think the safer route is that any Pokemon can use the mega shard or whatever Item is called but all Pokemon that previously have mega evolution can only mega evolve similar to how there's Dynamax and Gigantamax in Sword and Shield

If ME returns, it absolutely needs to change: limit it to 3 turns, allow every pokemon to use it somehow (kinda like D-Max G-Max worked maybe), limit it to specific places on the map. And please, after ZA, just drop this mechanic, it's not worth it.

The only way I can imagine them making mega evolution inclusive for all pokes is to grant any poke the 100 bst boost but the player would be able to distribute the 100 bst into the Mons of their choosing. Idk though, because whatever the gimmick is it has to be flashy. It needs to have the same hype that either going super saiyan (mega) titan (gigantamax) ninjutsu (z-move)… hard to compare Tera,but the new gimmick will have to be equally flashy, especially when animated Edit: also they can make it so that mega evolution is just a feature of the legends games.

8:57 I don't agree Strategically it's way better to get multiple stat changes plus another ability than just a stat boost (which only lasts until you switch)... Not to mention that Mega Alakazam benefits from Speed on top of SpA. And this Mon might not be the best example, considering some others get an additional type (Pinsir, Audino, Loppuny, Ampharos, Sceptile), or a type switch/removal (Altaria looses Flying over Fairy, Charizard, Gyarardos, Aggron). These shards would come against the main interest here, which is to evolve even further. So it implies to get another design/physiognomy (let's admit that Mawile, Sableye, Swampert and the scary Banette are way cooler with their new evolution). Changing MegaEvolutions would be dramatic as this feature is too iconic. In the end, the real problem with templating new Pokémon is they add to many Mons with no interests nor good stats in each generations! Too many Mons could get another evolution or stats changes instead of bringing new Mons we are never to use in competitive formats because they suck! We had hope with Dunsparce... which now can use an eviolite, but its evolution is lazy-designed.

I have a feeling that mega evolutions will become permanent in Legends ZA. The home sprites of all the megas, Rayquaza, zygarde, etc were all leaked last year. Why would we need a home sprite for them if they can't be put in the box as a mega?

it makes no sense that the starters can't mega evolve. if only a few pokemon can mega evolve the starters definitely should. if legends z-a takes place in the future a minimized mega evolution would make sense but if its in the past it makes no sense unless something happened to completely remove it from the present. like it makes no sense to limit the amount of mega evolved pokemon in the future, it would be more likely to have both in the future if we think realistically

This is a way better idea than your previous one, which had many inconsistencies and plot holes. Whereas this theory is much nicer, simpler and more feasible for GF in the long run. This theory also ties in nicely to the BREAK mechanic in the TCG. Not to mention, we already have booster energy, which seems to be a nice prototype/test for GF in going in that direction.

It would be cool if They get like a red glow or something and get bigger. Make a generic mega stone that every pokemon can hold and they all get 60 bst added to their stats spread out as 10 bst in each individual stat. That way every pokemon can utilize it and have the personalized mega stones make them change form.

I feel like describing a lesser Mega Evolution is like Dynamax vs. GMax. It sounds cool, and I thought all Pokémon would be able to Mega Evolve. But maybe if it’s on a smaller scale, there could be these stones that would allow Pokémon to Mega Evolve without any pain and torture and that could be the lesser version or just the new norm (in Legends Z-A it could be in the past and then in future games like Gen 10 or even future Gen 9 maybe they found a way to do it in the future again and it’s added back).

It is a good idea, and it helps with some problems GameFreak could have. If they dont want to work too much, you could say the Mega Power is like Totem Energy, where the Pokemon raises it's power to new levels and stuff. That could work. ... However, I dont really get this idea that ALL Pokemon should use a gimmick that GameFreak is wanting to use. Like... why? Why should I use a gimmick on a lower level Pokemon? What is the point? -Competitive online? Who will use a Charmander or Charmaleon with a gimmick in competitive? Not only is the Pokemon way weaker than it's final evolution, but if the opponent saw this Pokemon in your rooster, they will know it has the gimmick and stuff. -And if you tell me that the intention of GameFreak was to allow people to use the gimmick since the beginning with all of their Pokemon, they did a BAD job until Terastallization. Like, if I wanted to use an electric Z-Move for my Pikachu (which I can get in the first island as a Pichu), I have to wait until I defeat Sophocles in the third island, and by then I probably already got used to use the Z-Move on another Pokemon and probably got bored with it. Now imagine if I wanted to use a Dragon or Fairy or Ground move. I will have to wait until the last island. By the end of the game, you may have all the Z-Crystals, but chances are you will use the special ones, aka the Starter ones, the Pikachu ones, of the ones by other signature Pokemon. The normal Z-Crystals will probably not be used. And for Dynamax? How many times can you use Dynamaxing? Only in Gym Battles and probably in a few other places. And by the time you achieve a final stage Evolution from your Starter, probably by the 4th Gym, you will use those opportunities to Dynamax your starter because it can Gigantamax instead. Only Terastallization escapes this because the idea of changing type will ALWAYS be useful with every Pokemon. If the problem is that it limits the options because of the low number of Mega Evolved Pokemon existing, just add more Mega Stones. If they add around 40 per Generation , we would have 90 by Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, 130 by Sword/Shield, and 170 by Scarlet/Violet. I think it is a healthy number to make more diverse teams. And if they adapt the numbers so not every Mega Evolved Pokemon get the same number of extra points, it could help even more.

I personally think gen 10 will get something involving abilities that are the gimmick. We’ve seen moves, evolution, types, and sizes. I think next will be somthing involving abilities

Mega Evolution = Megabyte Gigantamax = Gigabyte Terastillization = Terabyte Peta?????? = Petabyte and the next gimmick for Gen 10 but wtf will it be? Swapping Abilities mid battle? Swapping a registered Moveset for a whole different set mid battle? As for the Mega Evolution Gimmick in ZA? We'll get a Mega Evolution of Mega Evolution just like how Terapagos terastillizes into Stellar type which is just Terastillizing it's Terastillization. Kinda not unlike Gigantamaxing being kind of similar in that it was just a Dynamaxxed Dynamax Pokemon. GF is lazy and this is the answer.

Mega evolution was a mistake that made several pokemon more broken. They not going to change mega evolution so that every pokemon they would use it. That is why Z moves, Dynamax and Terastal will always be better than mega evolution.

This honestly is the best one so far, it really feels like game freak would make something like this to kinda make mega evolution stand along with the rest of the gimmicks rather than it standout as their disappointing first child. This could also be topped with them bringing back the attack styles from Legends and make combat really really interesting like a strong style mega attack boosted attack getting hard blocked by a mega defense boosted pokemon and then you have to wait another turn to attack cuz it was strong style. I’m so excited if this comes to light this is gonna be the funnest pokemon game yet

They actually did this in super mystery dungeon call awakening for pokemon that don't have megas. So yeah they could do it the main line games as well.

Maybe, you could find the, "empty mega stones", you mentioned before, and sacrifice a Pokémon to the stone at an alter somewhere, and then that stone would become, say, butterfreeite, or Dittoite etc.! ...What? ...
