Yes, inner focus is also immune to intimidate along with being immune to flinching. This makes inner focus a surprisingly versatile ability in VGC, being immune to fake out and not getting attack lowered from Pokémon like Inceneroar or Salamence makes it a top 10 or even top 5 ability when not including exclusive abilities, as you don’t often run direct stat lowering moves in vgc. The most you get is will-o-wisp or something, especially since scald is now much more limited. That’s why entei is being used again. A fairly bulky and fairly fast physically strong fire type ( so immune to burn) that can’t be flinched and intimidate doesn’t work on it, meaning you aren’t ever lowering its attack except with like parting shot? It’s pretty good

One thing that sucks about megas is they gave it to Pokémon who don’t evolve or only evolve once, because in this generation (gen 9) they did finally begin to give older Pokémon permanent evolutions again like Kingambit, Dudunsparce, Annihilape, etc. I would’ve much rather they gave Mawile its Mega design as a permanent evolution than a temporary one.

I liked megas but I did wish more lesser loved or weaker Pokémon got the mega treatment and made them viable to some extent- Venomoth or Mightyena etc

I actually like the vibes of all the gimmicks. The super finishing move vibe of Z moves and the music whenever a Pokemon dynamaxes helps up the enjoyment and tera is just fun. As long as you can be dramatic doing it then it passes the vibe check

I'd prefer proper evolutions over megas just because they're more permanent. Heck Kingambit and Annihilape were great evolutions and finally gave them a leg up in comp........probably. If there are new megas I hope to god they keep it for the pokemon that NEED a boost and not popular sake. I'll probably use Mega Mawile in Legend ZA cause it's a dope design, I just wish it was a proper evolution.

Fun fact: when X and Y were first released megas were actually hated at first because it looked to similar to digimon.

My problem with “Give them just to the weaker Pokémon” is… why give a temporary buff that makes them viable when that whole design could have just been an actual evolution instead? This is biggest issue with megas, when given to powerful Pokémon it breaks comp but when given to weaker Pokémon that isn’t already at a three stage evo… why not just have given them an actual evolution? This also basically blocks those weak Pokémon from getting future evolutions, their only hope is for a regional variant. Megas are cool but it is such an absolute wasteful gimmick.

I think giving megas to weak pokemon as a bandage fix is bad, especially to ones that dont even have 2 or 3 stages in their evo line. Mawile, Heracross, Pinsir, etc should have just gotten an evolution.

Megas and Terra are my two favorite mechanics that they’ve done since Gen 6 and both are great in concept but in execution? Whoo boy. Megas specifically they turned into merch and fan service very quickly because why the FUCK did Mewtwo need ONE mega, let alone two?! Why did SALAMENCE need one?! A Pokémon already broken in singles who was in UBERS and still good in doubles?! If megas where more balanced and properly distributed to okish/struggling Pokémon then it would be so much better.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I feel as though in Gen 7 they already knew that Mega-Pokemon wouldn't come back in Gen 8. Its kind of suspicious how they suddenly decided Mega-Pokemon get pokedex entries and most of them are effectively "This Pokemon would probably rather be dead than be mega evolved."

Me and my dad used to destroy the battle tree in gen 7 using a combo of Mega salamence and Tapu Koko (for my team) and Chandelure and Mega Kangaskhan for his the chandelure was scarfed and tapu koko was Electrium Z and Salamence's main damaging move for flying was Aerialate boosted Return (it could take blissy out in a single turn with them both going for it without trouble)

My problem with megas, outside of the competitive aspect, are some of the designs that are objectively a downgrade compared to the base design of that Pokémon. Like mega Salamence, mega Heracross, mega Steelix, etc.

If strong pokemon get 100 bst then weaker ones should get 200 bst increase Either that or give suboptimal even bad abilities to strong ones and super strong abilities to the weaker pokemon

I'm 100% convinced Megas are only as popular as they are because they were the first real gimmick. I mean christ if you're old enough to remember when they first came out they were incredibly divisive, people mocked them constantly for GF "running out of ideas" and "just copying Digimon", etc. Megas are more popular NOW 10 years later than they ever were back then. Just look at Gen 1, they get more regional forms, had more Megas and more Gigantamax forms than any other generation, not because they are the coolest looking pokémon, or the best pokémon but because they were the first ones. I actually loved Dyna/Gigantamax because when you think about it, they are basically (nerfed) Megas and Z-moves (and you get 4 moves not just 1) combined that every pokémon could do and didn't require them to hold an item. Plus they had a 3 turn time limit which made them way more strategic to use than Megas.

I think megas shoud cap at 600 BST and for those that are way too near from 600 (like 570 or +) a +50 BST, looks at least more fair

Why we still having the debate that the Let’s Go games aren’t canon? Aside from that, megas are a fun gimmick but the fact that they’re not as universal as z moves, gigantimax/dynamax, and Tera makes them less conventionally playable. That’s not even to mention that they could always screwup and make the mega less viable like Garchomp, and while it’s not the case for the majority, it kinda sets a precedent for any actual viable mons getting just worse megas

scizor with life orb has better damage output than mega scizor.

They should implement a stat buff for normal Pokémon. Example. You use Charizardite Y to get mega Charizard Y or you could use a universal mega stone on your Gogoat. The Gogoat doesn’t get a special form but it gets a stat buff equivalent to mega evolution.

Pinsir has always been my second favorite generation one non since I first played yellow version in the late 90s and it still to this day my third favorite, Pokémon. However, ever since I first saw him, I was jealous because scyther had wings and he didn’t. When I saw mega pincer, and it could fly, I nearly shit my pants right on the spot in pure happiness.

My biggest problem with Mega-Evolution had nothing to do with overcentralising the competitive meta, it was more that, as a casual fan who played the single player games, Mega-Evolution is hardly used. In X/Y there are exactly 3 battles where your opponent uses Mega-Evolution. Mega Lucario vs Mega Lucario at the Tower of Mastery, Lysander's Mega Gyarados and Diantha's Mega Gardevoir. If you're going to include a brand new mechanic like that, make it common. In Alola, every trial captain and Kahuna uses a Z Move, in Sword/Shield every Gym Leader Gigantamaxes their Pokemon. I like Mega Evolution, especially some of those designs. Some of those Megas have the coolest designs of any Pokemon, but I don't think they'll continue it into Gen 10. I think instead, they've moved on to instead of giving older Pokemon Mega Evolutions, giving them Alternate Formes. Like you said, why would you use Ninetales when Mega-Charizard exists, well, then they added Alolan-Ninetales and it's now a staple of most hail teams, so it found it's niche. I like the idea of giving Megas to weaker Pokemon, but I understand the impulse from the corporate execs to give it to the most popular Pokemon.

Some of the Megas for the weak Pokemon could, and maybe should, become an additional evolution. Legendaries don’t need Megas, or Megas should not exceed 600 BST.

I’ve never liked megas and I’m so not looking forward to them being back. Having it be such a select pool of Pokemon, and having like half of those mons already be insanely powerful was just such a huge misstep. I know merch and whatever but as a mechanic it totally ruined it for me. I do really wish they’d keep megas away and just start buffing weaker mons instead, or giving them actual evos like they did for Bisharp and Primape. So much potential that was just taken away for the generations that had megas imo. Also for even not in game, just saying you don’t like megas at least used to get a bunch of people yelling at you for being wrong and I’m so sick of that lmao 😭

Wasn't the reason megas were popular was just because it was the first big pokemon gimmick? In that regard, its kinda like the gen 1 of gimmicks. And all those demanding it come back are much like genwunners.

I think Gen 10 (onwards) should have all mechanics. But I'd make a few changes/rules: - First, you can only use 1 "special mechanic" per battle, so either a mega, or a dynamax, or a tera, or a z move, or one of anything they add in the future, but not one of each (except maybe for dumb final battle raids stuff for the sake of it) - Make Mega available to every pokémon. Not giving a Mega Evolution to everyone, but some similar stat boost, and make mega EVOLUTIONS a particular case, just like they did with Gigantamax/Dynamax, and Terastallize and Ogerpon/Terapagos. TyranitarTube recently uploaded a video about a great suggestion on the topic, where you could get a mega stone per stat type, and you could use a Mega Power that temporarily boosts that stat type by 50 or something, this way you could still use that instead of a megaevolution, as you may want a bosst to a particular stat or something - Make all these mechanics use an item. So Mega Evolution/Power, you need a Mega Stone, Z move, you need a Z crystal, then Dynamax, you need an orb of Eternatus energy or someting, and a piece of terapagos crystal for terastallizing. This way, you don't HAVE to use one of these mechanics in a battle, as they wouldn't be a free bonus to use, and sometimes a choice scarf may be better.

The problem with megas is that so many of them could’ve just been regular evolutions. You can’t tell me mega Banette couldn’t have worked better as a regular evolution.

So two things that Moxie missed in terms of arguments: 1. About the limited pool - If the issue is that it feels like there's not enough options for a Mega slot, then that's easily something that can be remedied by just making more Megas. Something that ORAS did and Gen 7 should have continued to do. They don't have to make a Mega for literally every evolution line, but adding a new dozen or two every main series game would solve the issue. And with the whole Dexit thing from Gen 8 onward in mind, if a Mega is too broken then they can just not bring it back in the next gen or two. 2. About overcentralization - While it is true they were centralizing in Gen 6 (less so in Gen 7 but there was a fair bit of that there too), that was within Gen 6/7s levels of power creep. Gen 9s powercreep makes most Megas just look like normal, decent pokemon in comparison to the amount of BS Gen 9 introduced lol. The Megas that exist now fit right in with Gen 9s powercreep and most are powercrept themselves. If we need an additional handicap just in case - just make it to where you're only allowed to use 1 gimmick per round. So the second you Mega Evolve you're locked out of Terastal (or whatever Gen 10s gimmick will be) and vice versa, forcing you to choose what you want your team to be.

I prefer Dynamax because they fixed the balance issue with Megas. Dynamaxing at the wrong time could cost you the match. There was no negatives to just using your mega turn 1.

If you Mega Evolve a Kangaslhan without a baby, a random Cubone shows up to help. Once you're past lv50, then it becomes a marowak

In my opinion, who cares about competitive? If the mons unbalanced ban it from comp. it’s that simple. If a game caters to the pros/competitive side everytime they balance a game then all the fan base they will be left with is the comp sweats (AKA like 1% of the player base). Megas coming back should be a thing in each game

I didn't play S & V competetive, buy any of the dlc, or Legend's Arceus because I was really starting to feel the burn out after playing every pokemon game since gen V. I feel that having that break for a year and a half, and going back to an old gimmick was what I needed to be pulled back in.

Honestly? The reaction to Megas competitively feels so much like how the people of Pokemon mightve reacted to Megas right after the war. Though, for them its the fear of roided up monsters in pain being used to cause more violence, for VGC its the fear of a Mother and Child attacking twice in one turn.

The main issue with Megas is giving them to Pokemon who either didn't need them or don't benefit from them, like some Pokemon are ironically better non-Mega'd than Mega'd, a good example is Blaziken whose Mega plays just like a normal Blaziken, so you're better off using a normal Blaziken with a Sash, Life Orb, or Choice Item, or hell even a fucking Expert Belt in all honesty given how good it's array of coverage moves are. Another one is Lucario who is already good without a Mega and its Mega is just way overkill, but it was for the story in XY so I'll give it a pass. Mewtwo should've never had Megas as it literally doesn't make sense in lore, Mewtwo shouldn't have even existed when Megas were discovered, it's a severe plot hole in all honesty. If more Pokemon like Manectric or Mawile got Megas, that'd be great though, but they need to actually be good, not dead content like Pidgeot or Beedrill. A better example of an irrelevant Mega is Abomasnow, sure it's nice to be able to proc Snow Warning twice, but you only get to do that once per battle and chances are Abomasnow was slower than your opponent's setter anyways, Abomasnow desperately needs a Focus Sash to function well so yeah, another trash irrelevant Mega.
