I miss running big machinery. 15 years running machines this size, mostly VTL's and HBM's. I own my own machine shop now but I remanufacture engines. Much smaller and incredibly simplified to run. They were also a lot cheaper to buy lol. It's a good gig but I do daydream of owning real machinery some day. Thank you for the video🍻

Love the Vid, I could watch these kinds of video's all day (Worked in a heavy foundry for the last 37 years though! ) :)

Machinist Porn : ) ... That finished product was beautiful... That piece will last for years. Sadly too few can appreciate the logistics, coordination, skill and hard work that goes into this whole process from the miners to the casters to the finishers to the field to the removal or installation... The people involved in the whole process are the gears of the machine... Salute to you all!

they are giant pipeline high pressure valves. i dont know if they are forged at all. i think they are cast only. not sure.

OH!!! Cool machinery!!! I think - that man from 0:58 to 1:33 like his job!

That is so cool! I can't wait to design parts like this, or even the machines that make them, when I graduate college. Say, roughly how much does one of these valve bodies cost (once finish machined and all)? I cant even imagine what it would be, with all the time that went into making it. Plus, I assume it's just a small component (relatively, haha) of the whole project where it will be used, so the people who ordered it must be building something really interesting.

cool video, are there holes down the centre of the drill bit for the coolant to travel down or how does it get to the end of the bit?

👍 that's awesome! Neat to see what's going on in other shops. Bet not too many shops can handle that!

@Polybun Your probably right, but as they say 'its all relative.' Even though I like this stuff, my current job is working on motorcycles and scooters... so this is quite a big step up from M8 x 1.25 bolts and stuff.

What kind of machine drills the holes? Ive never seen anything like it. Aren't you horrified working with it? What happens if you were to mix up an offset or something?

must be like 45 minutes per holes. coolant is of a nice brown. I wonder what is the coolant tank capacity; a 1000 gallon?

To some degree, but this still requires precision and a slight rocking murmur from the machine of 0.5mm can still stuff things up.

He he pretty old scool max cut drill, but it works. Try Yes or Ksem drills, maby 4-6 times faster, but then again very costly, and demands a stabil platform. Keep up the good work, don´t let the chinese get it all.

I work for a company who makes those bits. Two holes are drilled in the blanks and the part is heated and twisted. the holes follow the twist.

More coolant with that drill if you see smoke. Maybe this set up or machine vibrating a lot but it look very slow, i use 35meter per minute and 0,3 millimeter per round and lot of coolant ..so 50mm drill S220 and F66

Why all the “old school” comments, there are loads of companies still like this , not saying they are better but tech isn’t always the way to go.

Only about 40K or less probably... It's the install and or removal, delivery and handling which drives the cost up... maybe 90-125K soup to nuts.

Carbide tipped Spade drill...?
@dougankrum3328
@dougankrum3328 9 лет назад
+Roy Staggers ...Ok...I couldn't see the drill tip very well, but now I see it's a replacement insert, not a spade tip type drill/insert....Material appears to be forged steel...so, yeah, plenty of stuff harder than that.
