Now then... time to go raid the very first Wily fortress that actually has a visual image to show what it looks like! This has no real significance to it, though, other than giving us an idea how many stages the fortress likely has... plus it looks neat! The stage itself is very unexciting, though... The beginning area is not too bad at all, but once you reach the upward climb, a glaring problem shows up, namely, Mega Man 2's hilariously slow climbing speed. The level itself is also really, really short, but eh, I have seen worse. The music is okay, but INCREDIBLY over-rated... just another of those things blown terribly out of proportion for no good reason.
The boss is just silly... The Mecha Dragon starts off by chasing you along some tiny platforms, which actually can result in a lot of deaths! Heck, that is the place where you are most likely to die as the actual boss portion goes down very fast due to not having any invincibility frames. The dragon's pattern is kind of weird... if you stay in one place too long it seems to fire out a more constant stream of fire... I dunno, it usually dies too fast for me to analyze the pattern very far.
Due to how short all the Mega Man 2 Wily stages are, I will probably just do daily updates for these.

Although I'm also going to be fair, musical tastes vary more then any other aspect of favored games. You'd be amazed how many different playlists come up for any one single scenario.

When I was a child, no one in my family could ever get past this stage because we always struggled getting past the part that requires Item 1. Today, it is still a tough obstacle to deal with for me.

I literally came here to see how to do it. I knew it was something totally obvious that I just didn't think of. In this case it simply didn't occur to me I could do multiple platforms, since you can't do that with items 2 and 3.

What makes the music here so awesome is as a lot of folks say it's one of the toughest stages. After beating all the others you're hopeful, but know you have a long and deadly road ahead where you may rage quit, find yourself in uncharted waters, or the 90 degree angles of the controller finally gets the best of you. An epic occasion with an epic song. I'd pause this stage and let it cycle for hours

It's like this song was made to be used in other versions with vocals. Plus, the epic "bring it!" feel it evokes quite appropriately for the early Wily Fortress stages made it earn its place as one of the best themes in the series. So no, it's not like there aren't good reasons for this theme to be so popular, Pink. Having some perspective helps sometimes.

This was the hardest level for me. It is actually quite a long level to me because i died so many times because of the dragon. Ugh. At least the music is awesome

As a Kid I didnt even know that Weapon 1 could be used more then once at a time. I must have spent a whole half hour there untill I figured out that you werent suppossed to use weapon 2 at the last segment.

Wow, calling one of the greatest themes overrated and calling this stage easy? LOL. It's easy once you figure out the right patterns and weapons to use. Before you figure that out, it's brutal. Didn't have the benefit of walkthoughs in 1989 lol.

Ikr how can he even say this music is overrated? It’s better than the other Wily Fortress Themes in other Mega Man games except for 3 of the MM9 Wily Stage Themes. Also, this stage is difficult when you have no idea what you’re going to encounter.

It is more overplayed than overrated. It is without a doubt the greatest theme in the 6 classic NES games imo. The MM3 intro theme is also up there, but since it doesn't play over the atmosphere of a level, it doesn't impact me as much as this one.

This song is epic. It just propels your forward, it perfectly matches the urgency of the first stage of the last part of the game. People are probably connecting this song to the first time they encountered the stage. MM2 had the best soundtrack of all the 8bit MM games. Easily.

This theme is overrated she says... you are the only in the whole world to thik that. It is so epic that everyone remember it 30 years later. And it's a video game theme, not a Sinatra's or Elvis' song.

Capcom really did a great job of hiring the best composers for the Mega Man series and there are very few "weak" tracks in any of the games--I find myself listening to them over and over, whether it's the original BGM or remix. Wily's Fortress is a great track, but there are a lot of underrated Mega Man tunes that deserve every bit of the fan reception that Wily's Fortress gets.

When I went to Dr. Wily stage 1, i heard the song of the stage is the one of the best songs in the entire franchise. Seriously, I can hear this all day and gets stuck in my head 😂😂😂 but i like this song and its my favorite.

I think the reason that this song is so popular amongst the fanbase is that even though the NES was a few years old, this song was a prime example of how 8-Bit music could get your heart pumping and get you psyched for the Wily Fortress levels to come. It was kind of like a "yeah, bring it on!!" kind of song.

What made this theme so effective is the setting. The first time you see Wily castle, start from the ground level far off and gradually enter the fortress and begin climb the massive wall, alone (Rush wasn't yet invented, and Dr. Light was cut debriefing). The song captures the fate and sadness in Megaman, he was alone against all evil. MM1 didn't have this, the game was a great trial run for Megaman against industrial robots turned into battling. This time Wily is ready!

Yes, the stage is short and easy. I love the theme though, it let's the player know the endgame is on! It took me many tries as a kid to master the dragon. It kept knocking me off the blocks. The first time I beat it I died at the same time as the dragon and it froze the game. I figured out how to glitch the fight (too much happening on the screen makes Mega Man invisible) which helped me speed run the stage.

Uh, Stage 1 theme is not overrated, it is arguably one of the greatest NES era songs. A tribute to power metal and progressive music. The fact that YOU don't like it, does not mean it's overrated.

I laughed at "CLIMB FOR JUSTICE!" XD Nice job as always. MM2 is definitely one of the classic games I would not try a no-hit run. I have to agree about the music bit. I've always found this theme to be extremely over-rated. There are plenty of other classic themes that deserve some recognition as well.

Speaking from just my own viewpoint, I like the Wily music for the echo-y solo parts. The whole song reminds me of a time in my childhood when my parents would go cruising around town at night with me in the back seat, the radio blaring out music. I'd sit in the back seat and stare out at the lights of the city for as long as I could.

Good job, Pink. You're breezing right along with this game, too. I've never been able to make it to this stage of the game, let alone do a no-damage run, so this is really fun to watch. I've also noticed, when you were doing the jump segment with the Tool 1, the 1 was backwards. The direction of the number seems to be affected by the direction of Mega Man. Kind of an interesting thing to see.

Ah, I remember Mecha Dragon very fondly... when I defeated him two weeks ago. I had been knocked off the middle platform so many times that I rapidly got to the top one.... and then, in a extremely frightened panic, I took him down about 15 seconds using the Mega Buster in rapid repetition, leaving me dumbfounded as he vanished in a strobe light. Those were the days....

Watching the video, I knew immediately that people would be flocking to the comments to defend this track. It is an all timer for sure. And it's dangerous - just fast enough to speed up your play on the level to make you take a little extra risk. Nicely executed level by the player though. I like hitting the dragon with a fully powered Heat Ray blast out of the gate, but may switch to the Quick Boomerang after next time I play.

Based. The Doc Robots are way worse than the Boombeam boss. Once you know the strategy on how to take that boss down in one go, it becomes a complete non-issue with every playthrough. The Doc Robots on the other hand will always be a drag and a problem due to their random and unpolished nature. MM3 deserves the title of the most overrated MM game, not MM2.

Lemme explain why the song is awesome: Mega Man is after Dr Wily for the second time, having saved the world once already. He's pissed that Willy escaped and after enduring all those robots he finally reaches the castle determined to end Willy's plan once and for all. The song shows us his determination at the end of his adventure and the challenges he must face in order to save the world again from Wily's evil plans.

This is one of the 2-3 best theme songs in a series which absolutely lorded it over an NES library that was brimming with great music. How anyone can call it overrated is beyond me. Though it is a known and incontrovertible fact that anyone not born between 78 and 88 has rubbish taste in music, so maybe you're just a bub 😘

Just prior to facing the mecha dragon, equip Heatman's ability and charge up. Maintain the full charge up as you jump from brick to brick. After the mecha dragon powers up, smoke him.

2:20 this platforming section is very tight in my opinion and very unforgiving. If you arrive without enough ammo, you basically have to start over.

Calling this music and level overrated isn’t really a take, it just shows the OP has no idea or interest in what kind of craft goes into these games. To game designers, this boss is legendary. Just ask the creators of Cuphead, who called it out specifically as an inspiration.

I distinctly remember being frustrated as hell with that dragon, because I couldn't see my in-game avatar half the time. I don't want to think how much you practiced to land Mega Man on that upper platform when you couldn't even see him. MM2 didn't push the system beyond what it could do most of the time. But this was definingly one of those instances.

The feel of this level, what with the breaking into a tangible fortress, really works here. The song is pretty good, but once you've heard it countless times thanks to everyone LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOving it, it actually is somewhat irritating.

I will try it but I also have trouble with my timing and position, I did use Item 1 before but I always end up placing them wrong and I fall more than I reach that one part of this stage.
