Wow! Mega Man commercials in Japan were awesome! Not that I needed any help with this as a kid but if I had saw those back then, the hype would've been unquantifiable! "Fight, Mega Man! For everlasting peace!"
GTV I really hope it's a new game! But seeing that may be stretch, I'd be satisfied with a Battle Network collection for a modern console. Fingers crossed! And no problem! :(
The first time I got into Mega Man was during the spring of 2017, just less than a year to Mega Man's 30th aniversery, and my local Libary had the Legacy Collection of the first 6 Megaman games. I enjoyed it so much that I would rent it 4 times until getting my own copy. I would then get the 2nd Legacy Collection that had 7 - 10. Then Mega Man and Bass, Then 11. I've memorized the names of the Robot Masters Then the 8 Megaman X games. Then the Zero and ZX games. I saw the 90's Cartoon, the 3 OVAs. downloaded the first 6 games on my phone and the sountracks to the 10 games. I've read the archie comics, and what ever manga scans where avalible. And I've replayed these games multible times. Easily among my all time favorite video game franchises.
Awesome! Thanks for watching it. I just released it a few hours ago. How far did you get on the first time? There’s a bug that helps you if you hit pause rapidly while attacking it really weakens some big enemies
Great feature there Sir, Kudos :) I only had Mega Man 1 that I found for sale at an open car fair of all things as a kid, but did you ever notice all the European art from Mega Man 3 onwards, he has a different face?
Thanks Larry! I have noticed the different boxes but only in recent years. It never dawned on me different non Japanese speaking regions would have different art. But lots of games did that. I have 2 more videos left this year and I hope you’ll like those too (one is very short)
I'm one of the only people I know who grew up with the first Mega Man before the second. A neighbor had it, and we'd play for hours on his 5 inch B&W tv. I didn't play the second one until a few years later with a cousin, missed the rest of the NES entries, then picked up X1. Great platform games, if you don't care about the thin story.
Proto Man was actually based off of Racer X from Speed Racer. Even his backstory is the same (he’s megaman’s older brother who ran away from home and put on a disguise)
Yea that’s true! And Proto and Racer X look the same! Have you ever heard of Anpanman? It’s a kids show but there’s two characters in that one that are just like Megaman and Protoman / Speed and Racer X. It seems like there’s many folk tales of other brothers who are exiled and maybe are on the side of evil but can’t betray the family. It’s very common in Japanese culture over and over. Thanks for watching!
Mega Man 2 & 3 were my favs on the NES, with 4 being my fav on the Gameboy. While they are great games, the music was what really made the games stand out for me. The soundtracks for the Megaman games are simply fantastic!
My first Mega Man game was one of the Power Fighters games since it used to be in a restaurant I used to go to. I still remember me and my friends beating Dr. Wily only to be greeted with "GAME OVER". We were so fucking pissed.
The Lore for this World and character shows his age. It's sad to see him disappear with the current time. I'm sure if you're here you've also seen the 10+ hour video about "The Insane Lore of Mega Man" I would love a Collection like the one Capcom just published for the Gameboy games(and GBC) maybe throw some of the wonderswan on there too. I would love to know more about Clyde
I never actually owned any Mega Man games as a kid, but I did rent the NES ones an awful lot. I also would frequently watch that Ruby-Spears cartoon as I was getting ready for school in the morning. After that, I didn't really get back into the series until I was in college and I picked up a copy of both the Anniversary Collection and X Collection on GameCube. I've been a loyal fan ever since.
Yeah me too. It was easy/short enough to bear in a weekend so I always rented them. I only bought rpgs mostly because they were long and I felt worth the 💰
When I was a wee lad in the early 90's I knew Mega Man's real name was Rock Man because my older brother of 10 years knew all that kind of stuff, so I would call him Rock Man to my friends at school, and they mocked me and said that wasn't his name and wouldn't believe me that his name was Rock Man, and said I was a liar. So, I had to start calling him Mega Man. Those little bastards. Mega Man 3 was my favorite because of Snake Man, followed by Mega Man X. Those were the good old days.
I also called him rock man. I think it’s funny how any super hero or whatever just adds man to the end to show that ability. I also called Final Fantasy 2 FF4 the second I learned of it which in high school seemed strange but now it’s all been fixed I guess. Thanks for watching ⚡️
Yea it’s crazy. I covered it in a later video. Monsteropolis and it’s seven societies and all That insane stuff. Who wrote that??? Thanks for watching and my next video will be about MegaMan again. So come back on 11/29! ⚡️
@@GTV-Japan oh cool i played it on sonic's ultimate genesis collection should i play it again could you do a video on it? which one should i play first i'm not very good at rpg's
Woah, hang on. is that Japanese Ad canon? We get canon art of Protoman without his helmet? wow. I know that we have no idea what "Blues" looks like under his shades. Infact its canon that he has Sunglasses UNDER his helmet. Capcom has the BEST music. Music you can hear anyplace with only 4-5 secods of playtime and go "Thats Ryu's stage. Hell yeah."
Good retrospective! The Mega Man series was never really popular in Europe due to the lack of interest in the NES and the character having a generic appearance next to others video game robot characters from the time. Reading a review of the latest MM game release in GamesMaster Magazine the games most of the time got very average scores because the magazine was very indifferent towards the whole series.
@@GTV-Japan What I've also noticed is that new gamers are growing up thinking that the NES and Mega Man was always popular in Europe so some revisionist history there definitely. People might like the games now but this was not the case back in the day where I come from.
The first Rockman game in Japan actually was a bit of a bomb, as it did not sell very well and remains a fairly rare game today, commanding a pretty decent price. The sequels however all sold great and are much more common and cost a lot less. Only the first game remains as rare in Japan and has the price to match.
@@GTV-Japan Really? I didn't know that. Was there any differences to the cart or label in this re-release? & if it sold so well then how come the price remains so high to buy a second hand copy these days?
@@GTV-Japan Very interesting.... If that is true then it goes against everything I have ever heard or read. Was there any difference between the box art or label for this re-release of the game that you speak of? Reason being is I'm wondering if there are possibly two versions of the game out there which would explain a higher price for the original print potentially.
I love the video by the way because I'm a fan of Mega Man but one thing is that Mega Man is isn't that is because robots can't age and he has a child's personality
What is that game where they're playing as Cutman? (the footage starts at 3:55) I definitely want to re-visit megaman now. I beat 1-5 as a youngster, but lost track of him after that.
At 3:55 the game is MegaMan powered up for psp. Known in japan as Rockman Rockman. It’s a remade version of MegaMan 1 and the one cool feature is conquered bosses are playable
I suppose so but I only played Zelda 2 so I don’t really know how many games link was in. Of course I’m counting rereleases which get put out on PlayStation and Xbox at the same time which really raise the number. Thanks for watching!! ⚡️
Seriously??? More than Mario?? I love Megaman, but there's no way The Blue Bomber has appeared in more games than Mario. I get trying to hype the video, but that was overdoing it.
Putting one incorrect statement fulfills the legal definition of a fictional work, which is then protected under copyright. A wholly factual work is not protected and so if someone wanted to use this video, they’d have to ask me. That’s why an obvious mistake is there! Look up the case of bundy v mojo for more.
GTV And here I thought it was just hyping up the video. I can't believe this legally works, but you learn something new everyday. Thanks for the kind reply.
Oh hey no problem. I don’t want to come off as an a-hole, which these short messages with no intonation can do. There is/was a site and YT channel in the 7million sub range taking videos from smaller channels, copying everything and then making big money off of it, with no real work themselves. But they were caught when a fact was wrong and it was something ludicrous like “the n64 sold half a billion units” for example where any fan knew it was just a joke and not meant to be serious. Yea I’m hyping up too, but it’s a way for small RU-vid channels to protect themselves. In print, map makers often put 2-3 small fake streets in the middle of nowhere so they can catch if anyone else copies them. Everything else in the video is cited where it came from (and the Shmuplation folks were very helpful in making this) or is self evident from gameplay, like enemy names or release years. Thanks for a good conversation! 🍺
During the mega man drought around the late 00's & early 2010- I was really got pissed when Capcom added box art mega man in that Street Fighter X Tekken- I wanted to raid their offices 😅🙌🏿🤷🏾♂️
@@GTV-Japan probably some under the table contractual agreement between Capcom and Nintendo, maybe even discounted licencing maybe? I know being a Sega fan boy here in Australia that I loved Mega Man and I would play it at every opportunity when visiting friend's houses (the Sega Mega Drive version never got released here in my experience). When I was older and just after I got my Japanese PlayStation imported, I purchased a NES second hand to play the Mega man Games, got up to number 3 and then I was distracted by the N64, lol. Maybe it's time to dust of my Famicom and start again.
Yeah it’s possible Nintendo had its leverage. I guess we won’t ever know until someone comes out and says something. I would just guess that since all the Megaman games are basically the same elements it was just easier to keep making them on the fc
Yeah I guess I slipped. Maybe the word gets over used. I guess it’s a continuation. Kind of like how What’s Happening Now takes place many years after the original What’s Happening
Well. Yes. If you include super small appearances or games like dr. Mario. Then sure it’s over 200. But it seems nowadays he gets one game every 5 years
I don't know how to explain how different it felt to have "night" intro and levels as a child for mega man 2. Like playing with flash lights as a kid in the dark or something. I just don't know how to describe the mystique.
Mega Man 2 is the best in the original series (Metal Man FTW), but I'll always love Mega Man 1 the most...that bastard Yellow Devil was a bane of my childhood. P.S. Mega Man is a much better name than RockMan.
Great! Thanks for finding me! I’m taking time now until April to prepare new episodes but until then there’s 110 episodes to catch up on! Take a look and tell me what you like or not like! 🍻
Hey no problem. I got the soundtracks from a giant e can they sold in Japan back in 2012. It’s pretty cool but I think they can be found online too but without the can
The United States tried its best to completely screw up the Rockman franchise … I mean, that US box art. It looks ridiculous! And then Captain N made the Blue Bomber GREEN. What the hell was that?! And it wasn't just the first game-Capcom kept making weird covers for the games. And of course that is everyone's absolute favorite tune from any Rockman/Megaman game EVER because the only people who think otherwise … are wrong. 😁 It does have some competition for best tune on the NES… Startropics, DuckTales' Moon stage, TMNT overworld, The titlescreen and overworld from Legend of Zelda, Area 1 from Blaster Master, Final Fantasy Shrine and Matoya, take your pick from Castlevania 3 (with Famicom sound added back) … But if we're limiting it to Megaman … yes, that one. (I have opinions about game music, apparently.)
Minuet from dragon warrior 4 is also up there. I’m partial to a lot of the earlier games because they had some good baselines too. Balloon fight wrecking crew and the robot games
