This is not only my first Game Boy game, but the first game I ever played! My mom took me to a pawn shop with the intent of buying me a Game Boy, and the shop owner let me try it out, this being the game from behind the counter she happened to grab. I didn't end up getting the game or console that day (according to my mom, the lady wanted the same price as a new GB for a used one with no accessories) Though, when I finally did get a Game Boy Pocket a few years later, this would be one of the first games I got. I also recall thinking Megaman looked really small when I played the NES games for the first time... though of course that's because this game made him look "big" because of the screen crunch xD
Glad your mom didn't get suckered. And I didn't notice how big Mega Man was, proportionally, until I edited some of the NES footage in, so you're sharper than me.
1) The Super Game Boy *is* legit! 2) I owned this game, but sold it 14-ish years ago. I don't recall if I'd played it recently at that point. In a word, _Mega Man In Dr. Wily's Revenge_ is "okay". *Note:* how I am listing this _after_ stressing the Super Game boy is legitimate. That tells ya where the strong feelings are for this comment. XD 3) IIRC, the Game Boy Mega Man games give Mega Man a much shorter life bar due to screen crunch and/or resolution. Often *without* adjusting other values for things copied or imported from other titles. 4) Enker is named after the Japanese musical style "enka". 5) A collection titled "Mega Mania", then changed to "Mega Man Anniversary Collection" (to tie into releases on other consoles) was supposed to have come out a long time ago for the Game Boy Advance. Sadly, it never did, and I've heard nothing about a collection for these titles since. Especially if a few other oddball titles (even if only oddball portable titles) were included.
I always thought these game didn't seem worth bothering with given how much they reuse. I can't help seeing them as nothing besides a novelty, but I hear the 5th one is actually unironically comparable to the NES games
*_Mega Man V_** (Game Boy) is one of the best Classic Series games.* You have an original story, the Star Droids (instead of regular Robot Masters), and the Mega Arm (instead of a regular Mega Buster). Also the shop system and Tango, but the latter never really impressed me (even though I love cats XP). I mean, plus good gameplay, level design, etc. While I haven't played _every_ Classic Series game on original hardware, I played the first three NES _Mega Man_ titles on original hardware and _Mega Man & Bass_ on the GBA. I completed the _Mega Man Anniversary Collection_ (GCN) and both _Mega Man Legacy Collection_ titles. Well, I didn't 100% the Legacy Collections, but I've at least beaten each game within them. For the Game Boy Mega Man games, I've only played _Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge_ and _Mega Man V_ but I'd say that is still enough for me to sing the praises of _Mega Man V_ *From what I've heard, **_Mega Man IV_** for the Game Boy is also great.* It is the game that introduced the in-game shop mechanic *before* _Mega Man 7_ (SNES) used it, but otherwise just has great level design and gameplay, even though it is reusing assets. Might as well address the remaining two Rockman World (Game Boy Mega Man) titles: _Mega Man II_ is widely seen as the low point of the Rockman World titles, while _Mega Man III_ (Game Boy) is seen as about as good as _Dr. Wily's Revenge_ .
