"Mavericks" is my own fictional series about the events after Mega Man X.
It basically asks the question: What if all the Maverick Bosses survived? Showing their side of the events.

To anyone not understanding how Octopus got heal there, basically his tentacles have the ability to latch onto Reploids and siphon their energy into his, like a vampire. This is evidenced in-game when X get pulled into Launch Octopus's whirlpool and make contact with him, he will use that move. Dark Dizzy in X5 also has a similar attack. In this animation, you can see one of Octopus's tentacles reaching out to a destroyed Utuboros, the robotic sea serpent X can battle in Octopus's stage, indicating Octopus siphoned the very last bar of health that Utuboros has.

Wow!!! You know, this analysis is actually very compelling and makes a lot of sense! But I must admit, this wasn't my original intention 😁 My idea was, that he mourns the death of his "friend/pet" (by reaching out for him) and the anger and thirst for revenge makes him gather all of his remaining power to gain energy. And I wanted the "how" to keep ambiguous on purpose. It's more of a dramatic queue for the viewer that he's back 😉 But I must admit, your interpretation makes kinda more sense. Even if not intended and with all those elements working by accident 😁 But that's the beauty of short storytelling. Everybody can interpret it in their own way. Cheers! ✌️

@@DemNikoArt Haha isn't that something! I guess I should have see it in a more emotional way, though it still makes perfect sense logically! Love the animation, excited for more, if you plan to make stuff for Mavericks outside of X1, I'd like to see Storm Owl. Peace!

Ah yes, that's definitely what a driven artist needs: to be shackled to an aging corpse rife with bureaucratic entanglements. Capcom does not make art, nor do they fund it. May they never darken your doorstep, Niko.

Thank you! Oh Mann that would be great. But I also like it, that they don't talk. Makes them more menacing and kinda unpredictable. And you can project so many things into them with just showing their emotions. A voice could maybe steer that in a different way. We'll see where the series goes in the future 😊

I know 😉 I still haven't decided what kind of personality I will give them. I try to stay true to the source but also enhance it and give it more nuance. It's a fine line. But I would like to steer away from the anime kind like "hey mega man, what's up, let's fight the mavericks" 😁

@@DemNikoArt Well you can't entirely avoid anime tropes. The whole X series was originally aimed toward a somewhat older crowd of gamers since the story is quite a bit darker than the classic Blue Bomber we know and love, and it has plenty of teen shonen elements strewn about. That said, I'm curious what you have in mind. ; )

Haha thank you! It was my first ever animated movie and I had a crappy pc, so I was really constrained with the time. So I was basically forced to put as much story as possible into a short amount of time. Glad it apparently worked ☺️

Hehe exactly 😉 It would be a bit too much. And not really plausibel. But I think it's arguable that from rage and thirst for revenge it might be possible for him to gain a little bit at least. In the end it's just a storytelling beat for the viewer to know that he's back 😁

Hahaha... I would, but it's just me 😁 It takes a loooong time to make these. But there will be more, and in the end there will be about 10 episodes, that will make up one 30 minute movie. I hope this will be enough to satisfy the fans hoping for a movie 😁

Yeah I seriously can't believe Capcom hasn't offered you a job to turn this into a series. I can see Netflix throwing a s*** ton of money at this, and people would watch it especially now with the onimusha anime coming to Netflix in just a couple weeks

Dude this is badass. Ill tell you what would make it even more badass is if you incorporated an updated heavy metal version of the in-game music for each of the mavericks respective stages. The X soundtrack is far too iconic to leave out.

True, but unfortunately I'm no composer so I wouldn't know how to create such a track. Also the tone was very deliberate. A more actiony track would give it a different vibe. But it's definitely an idea worth exploring
