Oh hey, it is the one stage that could not resist breaking the game's ability to be played through with no back-tracking! The big offender is one of the power-ups in this stage REQUIRES BUBBLE CRAB'S WEAPON to get! Gee, that sounds like a great idea that totally is not stupid. I am all ears if anyone knows a different way to get it, though. The stage itself is kind of odd for a water stage... blind jumps are essentially everywhere as the stage gives you so much room to just jump around wildly, but bottomless pits are everywhere. Going fast pretty well requires you to memorize your route as you may have no idea where you are landing!
Bubble Crab himself is not something you want to mess with! He ends up being one of the faster and more spastic bosses in the game, and he does a whole lot of damage when he gets his claws on you. He can definitely take you out faster than most bosses in the game, so be careful if you choose to fight him without his weakness!

For all the people mentioning that Bubble Crab's stage theme is reused as Duff McWhalen's stage theme, they also forgot to mention that the latter's stage _also_ featured mandatory backtracking. Yay, consistency. :V

Bubble Crab's AI is actually really easy to manipulate. He always uses the rising attack when you can be hit by it. If you wait for him to come to the wall then dash-jump off of it, he'll continually use the rising attack. If you keep dashing back to the wall and repeating that, then that's all he'll do.

I was going to bring up both the slope glitch and the accidental water hopping thing that wasn't taken out of the final game, but people already got to it. Oh, and to be quite frank, I think Violen that first time around is the hardest fight in the whole game to try and do a no-damage run on. Good work!

Fun fact: Bubble Crab's stage music is reused for Tidal Whale's stage in X5! Music so nice they used it twice! (And it remains pretty true to the original, not a whole lot of frills)

You don't need bubble crabs weapon to get the sub tank! Just jump as soon as you start hitting the little slope and for some reason X jumps higher then you can hop through the water. it's hard to explain but you can defo get it. i spent a long time figuring this out as a kid

2:03 You can make that jump by running to the left and jumping right when the ground changes height. You will get a higher jump that barely allows you to climb the wall. Then use the jump on top of water glitch and it's yours!

Okay, I just got it. It wasn't the tiny platform at 2:09 but the bigger one before it. I can see you walking across the correct platform it at 2:04. What you need to do is walk (not dash) to the left until you're touching the point where it starts slanting downards, then jump as high as you can. You should JUST reach the wall directly underneath the sub tank. When you do, jump right, and keep pressing jump to make X hop across the water until the sub tank is reachable.

Wut... you can jump infinitely on the surface there even without Bubble Splash? That makes TOTAL SENSE...! I shall give that trick a shot though, and if it works, then shall make sure to demonstrate to emphasize that zero backtracking is needed in this game! Thanks for the heads up~

No probs! I wish that every X game had two optimal stage orders - One for boss weaknesses and the other for zero backtracking. I suddenly appreciate X2's stage design more after learning that it does this.

PinkKittyRose The hopping on water is entirely possible because even in Megaman X3, players need to use X's incredible hopping ability to get the Kangaroo Ride Armor in Toxic Seahorse's stage or use another method.

Apparently it is possible to get the Sub Tank without needing Bubble Crab's weapon. In the flat section around the area where you need to jump up, there should be a slanted platform to the left (I think it's the tiny one you stand on at 2:09). Walk towards this platform, and near the corner, jump. You should hit a small group of bubbles that will extend your jump to the height necessary to reach the hidden area.

Has no-one noticed that whenever you jump over Bubble Crab during the boss fight, his AI IMMEDIATELY pops his bubbles and does that back-energy-spiky thing? Because once you notice, the fight becomes MUCH easier due to how you can quite literally just stick him in a pattern of jumping straight upwards every time you pass over him. Also I don't believe he immediately jumps at you again if he's still in the process of going through the attack. Meaning it's much safer to pass overhead of him once he finishes each "cycle" of the "energy spike" animation. Also also if he's in the process of reconstituting his bubble, he won't cancel into the attack. Another thing to keep in mind. Once I found this out, it was super-simple to just pelt him with buster pellets-- not even charged shots! -- as he kept jumping up and down like a ninny.

For some reason I didn't have as much trouble with Bubble Crab on my first run, used normal charge shots(without the upgrade) to knock him back, which worked surprisingly well, felt a bit like Cutman 2.0 Bubble Splash was somewhat ok, it could be a bit faster and have more range(the range of it is way bigger underwater, it also goes higher).

Gator's stage also has the same skipping after fighting the optional boss. There are still 3 enemies before Gator though

The Bubble Splash isn't terrible! It can be used to help you get an item in this stage after you get the arm upgrade. Not only is it Flame Stag's bane, but it is also Violen's weakness in both fights.

If you time it just right you can use the s.burner to make it their it takes a couple of tries but it will make it eventually

Here's a little trivia; Bubble Crab was once part of the Maverick Hunters, but ditched them because it turns out, he's greedy. Yup, promise of higher pay was all it took for him to turn traitor, and Join Sigma's campaign.

While I agree that this kind of railroaded backtracking is nothing short of a bad design choice, I can't dislike Bubble Crab, for two reasons: The music is cool, and Bubble Crab's shoulder lasers resemble crab claws, which I think is pretty slick. (Although his weapon looks downright GOOFY.)

the videos stutter sometimes. you can notice it in the other parts aswell.

The various stutters, if you notice, are directly linked to my sub-titles. It skips slightly when they first appear, then snaps back into place when they fade. It is a weird quirk to my video editor that I have not been able to fix, so I just live with it. It behaves most of the time, but there are usually 2-3 instances of it per video.

I gotta say, you were lucky as a whole with where the X-Hunters decided to spawn. Usually trying to fight both the X-Hunters and the Mavericks in one set path is so inconvenient it's just not worth the trouble.
