Hey Jirard! Are any long taking games in the completion process? If not may I recommend Hitman 3 with the content of Hitman 2, and 2016 taken into it? It would take long, be partially frustrating with challenges like the „king of the castle“ challenge on the isle of sgail, but be also a ton of fun with the highest replayability I‘ve seen in a game. Just a game to considerate, when wanting to complete another giant of the stealth genre.
@SuperGoldstar127 different team; the devs for the games I mentioned and X3 was Minakuchi Engineering, while II was made by Japan System House (now known as Biox).
I, too, missed out on X3 initially, it became something of a legend amongst my friends back in early high school, since none of us had even seen a copy of the game. We'd all rented X2 from the local video store, and most of us owned copies of X4, but none of us ever found X3. Imagine our surprise when emulation became more commonplace, and we finally got to try out this nigh-mythical game only to discover it kinda sucked...
@@Zak-bv4qm It’s really not that hard once you get used to it. Most of the difficulty in the first two comes from that nasty weapon skill and e-Crystal grinding. Though Zero 4 is hard no matter what. Especially if you’re trying to get all the chips.
@@dnmstarsi I’m pretty sure that the original rating was fake, it was supposed to go along with a little skit idea of Jirard being possessed by a demon
well this was my first megaman x game i played, also the one i took the longest to finish mainly because i haven't played any megaman game prior to this one
Highly reccomend the Zero Project mod for Mega Man X3. Let's you play as Zero or X whenever you want, even letting Zero gain armor parts and heart tanks, making X and Zero equals. Makes the game an 11/10
Seems like most people don't like X3 but it's one of my favorites. I like the little touches like being able to kill bosses for alternative castle fights, the z saber, and having Zero available to blast through a section of a stage.
I wouldn’t say “most” people, I’m sure some people don’t approve of the new changes made but everything that made the first two games awesome is still here and accounted for
I never saw getting the Z-Saber as part of completion because it forced you into a worse ending than keeping Zero around. Yes, it's a minor change in the ending dialogue and you don't see both X and Zero running through the credits at the end, but to me, that felt way more important than bait like a "bonus weapon" as much as the Z-Buster was a bonus weapon in X1.
Can confirm. I already liked X8 before but after playing X7 for the first time and then following it up with X8 it's definitely a good breath of fresh air. Even if some of the stages are still a bit bullshit
8 was a new beginning. Lumine was a worthy successor to Sigma, and I would love to see a follow up. 8 was a massive improvement over 7, and even 6 and 5. A few new ideas were introduced, and I like being able to select or turn off the navigators. Alas, we’ll probably never get X-9
Just feel like shooting this comment out into the void. X3 was and still is my favorite of the snes games. I will say it was the first MMX game I played and my mind was blown as a kid getting the upgrades and stuff after being used to the regular mega man games on nes. Besides that nostalgia that I get from this game I think there are other reasons that make this game so good. Of course being able to play as Zero is awesome! Even if it does have that dumb death mechanic. Playing as him in the opening level was awesome! Bit and Byte were badasses! The return of Vile. The completely underrated music. The best looking of the first three x armors. The gold armor! Air dashing and even two air dashes with the gold armor or enhancement chip. The different ride armors. I personally liked the bosses and enjoyed the variety of the levels. Overall I can understand a little bit as to why this one gets a bit of a bad rap but to me it’s the best of the first 3 x games. Feels like it just has a little bit more than the first 2. Anyway this post most likely will never be seen but feels good telling the void how badass x3!
Someone pointed out that if you get Zero's Saber WITHOUT upgrading your buster, you can use it more often because it pops up after your regular full charge shot. It's a much more interesting way to play.
My biggest complaint with X3 is the extreme difficulty curve. At the beginning of the game you're getting 2 shotted and dying constantly and it feels impossible to make any real headway, but when you finally break through that wall, the game eventually becomes way too easy.
Like others have said, there's a rom hack called Megaman X3 Zero Project that fixed every single issue with the game, even some of the controls are more responsive, and makes it way more fun to collect everything. Originally it was intended to just make Zero actually playable, but it became a much bigger project with the time. I wasn't too fond of X3 either, but after playing that rom hack it became one of my favorite X games ever, up there with X1 and X4. Check it out, you'll love it!
Awesome video. Worth mentioning though that there is a romhack of X3 that allows for zero to be playable at all times with bosses rebalanced to compensate and some minor story tweaks. Well worth playing the once
I must've missed some drama ... who was the dufus? that wasn't the guy who forced New Game Plus to be a thing, is it? I don't remember him looking like a caveman, but also, I only found the Completionist about 2 weeks before that shit hit the fan
I played it as a kid still own my cart and I like it a lot. I thought the chip system gave it more replayability cause I was excited when I discovered it. I remember finding the empty room where the gold armor was and having to figure out what to do to get the capsule to appear. It was during a play through where I decided to get everything but the pink capsules for an extra challenge since some of them made the game easier. Shit my pants when I found it. I played it so much I would beat all the levels with zero and bosses with x. Imagine my surprise when he didn't warp away when I approached the boss door thinking it would swap automatically like in every other level.
I love all mmx series too. But definitely recommend playing the three zero project rom hack for mmx3. Playing the whole thing as zero is like the only reason I play mmx3 now lol
That title is brilliant. I saw it before I was able to get around to watching it and thought, "Oh, that's cool. He must really have enjoyed it". Then as I was getting ready to watch it I remembered how Zero was implemented.
When I first read the title I was like: "Wait, did somebody else liked this game? I have to check this out" I should've known by now, but Zero Problems literally means that it has problems with Zero, oh well.
@@toaster_rtx1829 Yes, but X4 and X5 still did not match X1 and X2. The graphics was the only thing that made those 2 games unique. X4 and X5 ost was not great and the bosses were not memorable. The devs thought that better graphics was the answer when truly the game was never in need of a graphics upgrade. It needed better boss mechanics, level design and a nice OST like X1 and X2. Thats why in my opinion after X3 it was all down hill from there.
Ok so one of my biggest issues with X3 is how the armor power ups are obtained. In the previous games you can, for the most part, get each armor piece is whatever order you desire, the only exception is needing one or two specific weapons prior. In this game you will literally find yourself getting armor in the same order every time, and the head armor piece is practically useless, by the time you get it you have almost everything since its locked behind an obstacle that has to be dealt with a charged up special move
I completely understand the complaints about this game across the board. I do have nostalgia goggles when I play it still to this day but I appreciate everything this game brought to the formula. Things like a resurrected Vile and different bosses based on the optional bosses beat and such. Gold armour, pink chips, and Zero's beam saber were cool additions. Also all the main bosses having a kind of rage mode near the end of the fight was a nice change up. I remeber it being more difficult then the previous X games too. This is still my second favorite of the X games. X1 is still king
After watching som of The Completionist videos I have to admit that he may be a genius. The clever way that he has grown the channel is nothing short of impressive. His name should be the completionist genius.
To anyone who’s reading this, I highly encourage you to play a hack of X3 called “the Zero project” which gives you a fully playable Zero, allows you to swap between enhancement chips and much more.
With all the secret little things in X3 I always figured that the game was designed to encourage trying all sorts of things, encouraging exploration and trying different combinations even more than in the previous X games. I mean in order to get the saber you have to defeat Vile with his weakness in the warehouse confrontation. Doing this destroys him completely and he doesn’t get away, and in his place is the dragonfly robot. The same is also true of the mini boss fights Bit and Byte, if you manage to defeat both of them with their boss weaknesses they are also destroyed without coming back as an amalgamation boss in the first Dr. Doppler fortress level. The same is also true of the enhancement chips you can explore and find the particular one you want to use. (when I first played this game before finding out about the ultra chip I went for the one that allowed you to air Dash twice this was essential to me when fighting Sigma. The other thing is that the odd thing is that if you play the game without getting the Z saber, you don’t get the canonical ending of the game, The funny thing is you actually get what seems to be a better ending that means there will be no sequels because zero shows up and hits sigma with an antivirus program on his sword which completely destroys sigma. But that only leads to questions of how he survived for X4. Meaning that the ending where Dr. Doppler sacrifices himself is the actual canonical ending of the series. So I think that X3 was more of trying to come up with other ways to encourage both replayability and exploration of different facets of the game.
I mostly used zero as a damage sponge or second health bar if i really can't get past a certain part with X knowing if i die, i'd have to go allll the way back and fight the mini boss again. There are parts in some levels that i do like to use Zero in; specifically the last half of gravity beetle, or the beginning of neon tiger, etc. Still I like to use X as much as possible because this is his series and yet you can still see Zero's shadow looming over him as if Keiji and the fanbase are just screaming "ZERO'S COOLER! HE'S GOT LONG 80'S HAIR METAL, HE'S RED AND HAS A LIGHTSABER AND 3 LOVE INTERESTS!" poor X.
This is my favorite of the originals... the tracks are among the best for my tastes and playing as Zero was amazing.. especially if you finished X2 with Zero saved.. I also felt it was the most challenging of all the X games (not as bad as any of the original x games pre 7, or to say this is a super hard game or anything). The chips were so tempting but the gold armor is where it’s at.
X3 is still the only X snes cartridge I own, I played this game so effing much it actually surprised me that it was so disliked later when reading the internet posts about it. Well at least I have a game I enjoy AND it’s worth money enough to make me feel proud to own it
If you ever get a chance to play X3 outside of work, try a buster-only run. Bosses in particular benefit from the extra challenge, since they're all movement-focused this time around, with dash attacks that hit like trucks. Even goofy Sigma 2 has a cool pattern.
So happy I ran across Mega Man X3 - Zero Project. Allows Zero to be fully playable. Great review. Your prospective mostly matches my thoughts on the game too.
Yeah as I relive this game, X3 had issues with redundant level design and stiff/unanimated/small boss sprites. Music was decent. Still a good game, but definitely had some kinks.
I used to have this for the PC as part of a moving gift from a teacher of my first elementary school and I couldn't even get past the first boss. As you can imagine, the rage I endured is why I don't remember where I last placed it
There's a Mega man X3 hack that makes Zero fully playable! The hack is called "The Zero Project". I urge you to check out the hack if you didn't like how Zero was handled in Mega man X3.
There was a part in Blizzard Buffalo's stage where I think you could end up soft-locking the game, or end up waiting a really long time for an enemy to kill you. It was at the end of the stage, just past the platforms where the weather machine was. The guys on the snow speeders could freeze you in place somehow, but you could get free if you got run over...or killed, if memory serves me correctly. There were a couple of times I got frozen in place, but I think I destroyed the nearest bot or he ended up despawning, so no one could come free me. It probably wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that it was the first time in the level, so I couldn't use the escape option. I think I just ended up reloading a save state or something, but just imagine if you were playing on the original snes. Sheesh!
I'll also point out: There's a lot more emphasis on the Ride Armors in design and capabilities... But /like/ Zero, the places you can utilize any of them is stupidly limited, and unlocking using them /at all/ is a bit tedious, requiring clearing two different bosses beforehand to unlock the Chimera.
While a demo of Megaman X1 with just the first stage was my first experience with anything Megaman, X3 was the first game I had full access to and I've never looked back.
Weirdly enough, I actually owned and played X3 before X2 as a kid, so I have a bit more nostalgia toward it, but even I can admit that it had definite problems. As hype as it was having Zero be playable before X4 existed, it was highly disappointing how limited it was. And I can understand not liking the enhancement chips and the game not telling you that you're screwing yourself out of the secret all-in-one chip (kind of like it doesn't tell you about the one boss Zero can fight which gives you the Z saber). Even the visual design and music are much more of an acquired taste than the first two games. It's also undeniable that X3 is EASILY the hardest of the first three X games, though it's hard but fair and not just total garbage like X6. As a kid, this resulted in significant frustration and meant it took me until MANY years later to get all the way through the game, but, coming back to it later, part of me appreciates the legitimate challenge even as a series veteran. I'm honestly impressed you had as few deaths as that playing through it again. And one thing I do think is cool about X3 are the variations in the ending and the bosses in the Dr. Doppler stages. Overall, I'd agree that X3 is a bit rougher around the edges and more of an acquired taste than X1 or X2, but I still like it for what it is and can definitely recommend it to those that like a challenge.
Hey jirard can you do an episode on terraria. Basically encounter everything once and that's it for completion. Plus a bunch of juicy achievements, and we all know you love those. For full completion tho ya gotta play the pc release cuz the last update isnt on console yet
Am I the only one who wanted J's Reviews to show up here for the "super secret surprise special guest," knowing full well it wouldn't ever happen anyway?
It's not just you fam. I did get the chance to play this one as a lad, and it felt just as unsatisfactory then as it does now. But I still replay it as often as the other two cause I love me some megamans.
I can understand most of the critiques given here, though I never was overly bothered with the lack of zero as much as having to ignore the enhancement chips for the gold. There is nothing more annoying to me than revisiting x3 after a long break when you've forgotten certain upgrade placements and you are blindly exploring and find a secret, only to find it's a capsule you should pass on. Always felt unmotivating to me. I also feel they really underutilized the special mech variants. They were always there just for a brief stint to unlock one nearby upgrade, and some of them weren't even necessary. Even still, I heavily enjoy playing x3.
Ironically this is my favorite of the SNES trilogy. Maybe because how much trouble some of the bosses gave me (looking at you Blast Hornet and Crush Crawfish) and I hate using weaknesses on the bosses. I like having fair fights
Another thing I didn't really see touched on here is the boss fights also just feel rather, flat? Like many of the bosses have very basic patterns of just kind of moving back and forth and are rather easy to avoid. (Blizzard Buffalo, Tunnel Rhino, and Vile MK-II all come to mind.) Not to mention they seem to lack a lot of animations lacking any sort of weight behind their movements, they just kind of float from one spot to another almost like they're being pulled by a rope. And lets not forget the 11 second long boss music loop that just kind of drones on...
I know you dont cover romhacks, but the best way to play megaman X3 is the romhack project zero. fully playable zero with a different moveset, along with the ride armors all being unlocked after you receive 1.
Can't argue with that review. Clearly they hadn't figured out how to integrate Zero as a playable character. So, it's understandable that the use of Zero for most of the game is a risk/reward tradeoff. Zero is so much stronger than early-game X, you have to have some way of keeping players from using Zero for everything. Clearly it wasn't thought out particularly well, and it's likely lack of development time didn't allow the team to return to the drawing board on Zero integration. My best friend and I found we played the first level over and over because that was the only way we could play as Zero without f***ing up the rest of the game. But then, X4 was designed very well to allow the game to be played by either Zero or X. Furthermore, Zero wasn't just a reskin of X, but the player got totally different gameplay experiences with each character. Each level and boss had to be approached differently depending on how you played. I completed the Mega Man X legacy collection and played X4 for the first time. I was delighted how my second playthrough as Zero didn't feel like "just another playthrough".
I actually like X3 the best of the orig-trig. Mostly because of the Golden LaserSword X being so ridiculously overpowered. It really feels like a culmination of everything he is growing into in the first series.
Don't feel bad about not having any nostalgia for X3, I played it back on the SNES when it originally came out, and it was Meh back then. Hated not being able to play Zero for more then 2 minutes. X4 made up for that big time.
