Mega Man X7 - What Happened? 

Reminds me of the time my brother got me Shadow the Hedgehog for my birthday a few years back. He said the guy at the counter was like "You sure about that?" before being assured it's for a joke gift.

@@seanmalloy0528 I thought it was pretty funny, though he definitely got to hear me bitch about the game a lot as I played through that slog. He'd gotten it for me because I was already talking about the game since I was watching a Let's Play of it, and we have memories of playing a friend's copy back when it was new; even as kids we were underwhelmed. Shadow the Hedgehog wasn't the first game I'd been gifted knowing it's bad, as my mom had gotten me Superman 64 a year or so prior, though I'd actually asked for that one and knew it'd be easy to find for dirt cheap (my copy was $9).

That guy deserved a promotion.

X6 did that. And even X5 was starting to look like they cheapened out and the story was going off the handles

It took me a couple of years to get over X7. Hell, it made me somewhat skeptical about picking up X8 (the new art style didn't help). In the end, X8 was a fine game, wish I played it sooner.

X7 really rocked the fan base. What killed the good will was Legends 3 not just being stopped from being released but Capcom laying the blame on the fans.

Its sad because 1) X8 was actually pretty good but just wasn't good enougg to overcome how bad X7 was. And 2) Capcom chose to interpret the negative reviews this game brought to the franchise as a sign that no one wants Megaman anymore at all instead of that they needed to try harder to make games for him. RIP Megamall Legends 3 :/

It was completely off my radar, but honestly I was just busy with school. I don't hate it, and the storytelling isn't any worse than classic capcom, I just wish it didn't intentionally design desperation attacks to be skipped. And did the armor system better.

Too many gimmick stages for my tastes, too little straight up platforming. That Manowar level is just a waste of space...

It's ok but wasn't enough to make up for the dumpster fire that was X7.

X8 also had a pretty darn good soundtrack.

I was actively following the MML3 development and was so excited to get the paid demo on 3DS! Until they never released it and then blamed the fans for not caring enough about MML3

That's something I don't get. These characters are literally timeless because they're robots. They can't age.

It’s just that later made robots tend to be more advanced. Making older robots feel outdated in comparison. Thus younger.

@@EWOODJ The funny/interesting thing is that both, Dr.Light and Dr.Wily were so ahead of their time that no one (even centuries later) has managed to _fully_ replicate X or Zero in terms of specs. So while X and Zero could be considered "outdated" in terms of age, they're _still_ superior.

If you actually played Megaman X4, then right after X5 X6 and X7 it's very obvious why.

And now X9 looks more and more like the Megaman equivalent to Halflife 3...

In the spawn of the entire decade of the 2000's, we got: Megaman Zero 1 to 4 Megaman Battle Network 1 to 6 Megaman ZX 1 and 2 Megaman X7 an X8 Look, I love the Zero and Battle Network sagas, but to the outsider viewer it looks like milking the cow as much as possible

Believe it or not, there was a time when people were sick of Resident Evil games too. Capcom has a tendency of finding any successful franchise and oversaturating the market with new games until nobody cares anymore.

Not me. Gameplay may have stunk bad (we're all in agreement there) but I still look forward to seeing Over-1 and Nero L in X Dive. I really hope we get another crossover game and Over-1 gets a proper do-over.

Not just that. X7's a TERRIBLE introduction for Axl and sets a poor example for what the character becomes down the line. Arguably, X8 and Command Mission are significantly better introductions to the character than X7 was. Command Mission just has him join the party as someone who's just another Hunter like X and Zero, who just has an amnesia problem and wants to find out who he is and where he comes from. Even though there's a massive issue re Command Mission's placement in the grand scheme of the timeline, it's still a far better introduction for Axl than X7 was. When I hear people are going through the X games in numerical order, I always just say skip X7, play Command Mission and then X8.

@@wingedswordslayer I mean, even if he's just a genki type boy, he's still good. I like his character and 7 did him dirty. It takes 8 to pull him out the the hate hole, and even then he was forever tarnished. I havent seen much about Command Mission though, so I can't say much for what it does for his character :V

Just remember: Command Mission is set in the Zero series era (21XX).So yeah that game's storyline and setting screws up Zero's solo adventures and (probably) the biometals'.

@@murderofcrows9942 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the Zero series never gives a specific time period for when it takes place. It only says it's set 100 years after the Elf Wars, which also aren't given a specific date. In other words, Command mission doesn't contradict the timeline, it just pushes the Inti games further into the setting's future.

Command Mission's fairly good; it just needs a upgraded/touch-up re-release that touches up some of the issues; mainly that abhorrent encounter rate. It did have best boy Massimo too.

I liked Command Mission. Could use some more polish but that was a fun game aside from the encounter rate.

Command Mission is awesome. I played the hell out of that game.

I admit I was one of those impressionable kids that bought into it at full price. Never could get past the first few stages but I still went and bought the sequels anyway.

I want to Nominate the pokemon gen 6 aka pokemon X and Y as Im am nothing but disappointed at this game as it felt incomptle and is where most the problem in the morden pokemon come from.

but it's just a rehash of older sprites and stuff...boooooring...

x dive still need a time to to polish and make some people accept it but it's a good fanservice game with good dev care at least they still know some fan and community joke like sigma is the wall from terminal montage animation or bit christmas meme from x3 manga

@@GenyaArikado I know how you feel. But recently, it turned out that X DiVE is making a lot of money. Which means if the dev invested that money in Megaman franchise we will get a higher quality game.

Pretty much all of the classic NES Mega Man games are fun!

Fun Fact: MM7 only had a development time of three months. Even with that, I agree that MM7 is a good game.

You didn't really see a major dip in quality with the classic series as you did in X, unless you count Mega Man & Bass, which if you do, then yeah. Still somewhat fun to play if you play as Bass, but extremely questionable level design, since most levels were obviously balanced around Bass' control scheme, and not Mega Man's. And also no e-tanks, especially with how excruciatingly long the King and Wily levels were.

Conceptually, X6’s story is really good; make the new main villain close to the main characters and reveal more about their past. It’s the execution in-game that brings it down, what with its poor translation and some other dumb story beats like bringing Sigma back at the very end. I’d argue X7 has the same exact problem; Axl is a really cool character, and making the villain of Red really close to him was also a novel concept. Plus, the Zero series proves that having an X that doesn’t fight and is tired of combat can actually make sense and work well with his character. In that series, he’s sort of a mentor figure and guardian angel for Zero and the other Resistance fighters; if he employed a similar role in X7, especially with Axl as a new recruit on the team, I think it could’ve worked really well. But of course, I think we all know how THAT turned out.

I disagree. X7 is more boring and the whole motif of X going pacifist is... just bad, but the plot overall is good, and the game is competently made. X6 on the other hand is rushed, has a lot of glitches, bullshit level design, unfair difficulty and bad plot. Although I like some choices in X6 the level design is killing it for me.

@@Melkac I like RPGs so yes. It had a very interesting cast of characters, like Marino, Cinnamon, and Massimo. Especially Massimo, my favorite. Axl was a blue mage who could go invisible/invincible and use boss attacks.

@Rafa Mauricio If it's any consolation, I couldn't beat it for 6 years 'cause I didn't learn how to grind and the fire boss kept kicking my ass. Some people have "lead me into everlasting darkness" as their dreaded pre-boss cutscene, I have "Now, Duboar!" as mine.

It's actually the ZX series that sets up the Legend series.

@@alph4073 In the Megaman Z artbook, the devs, inti Create, mention how building to the Legends series started in Z4. ZX probably continued it further in that direction.
