In Nick Menza's biography, he says that shortly before the gig, Dave told the rest of the band that they would only be given 45-50 minutes of stage time, which was shorter than they expected. Dave didn't want to cut anything off the setlist though, so he instead told Nick to play fast as shit, assuring him that he'd be able to keep up. So that's the reason why they're playing these songs a lot faster than on the records.

How Mustaine shreds so flawlessly on those insanely fast riffs in virtually perfect time while singing and barely ever looking at his guitar is beyond me. The man is a fuckin' beast.

In his recent q&a video, Kiko said that he was in the audience at this show. He was lucky to see Megadeth in their prime. If I got to see the RIP lineup live, my head would explode
I saw this lineup live. Yes, I'm old. Ironically what really blew me away and stuck in my mind was the support act. A band whose name I have heard as "the next big thing" and who had just released their new album but was completely new to me. A band called Pantera. After they hit the stage, Megadeth was almost tame and boring. But only almost.
@@Ricardo-cl3vsnot comparable but I saw Megadeth for the first time after Lamb of God. It didn’t feel right to mosh after LOG. Still enjoyed it greatly
@@steel3454 I heard that too, their time slot was short in RIR '91. Take No Prisoners' pace is absurd though, for those who already know the song is great, but those who don't better start with the original.
I thought you meant Megadeth. It was a bad ass moment if you look past the girl(they are pretty cute though) I prefer Dave!! My life is more complete today

This concert is a great example at human ability to play their instruments. As a bassist I'm amazed how David can play some of these insanely complex lines at this speed
Dave's shirt is a teller about the real order of the concert, the setlist was like this: Hangar 18 Tornado of Souls Skull Beneath the Skin The Conjuring In My Darkest Hour Lucretia Devil's Island Take No Prisoners Holy Wars... The Punishment Due Peace Sells Anarchy in the U.K.
Man, you ruined my impression! I thought Devil's Island was such a nice opener. Then came you, the destroyer of good fun and children's smiles. Joking, I'm impressed that you wanted to make the list
@@TheNewBerser no That was a shorter concert. They had to play many songs possible in just 45 minutes. So they cut a few of the set, like Rattlehead, Good Mourning Black Friday and others...

@@843idfa Yeah but they don't write lyrics they don't sing at the same time and they definitely don't play in front of thousands of screaming fans so just shut up already

Marty is a much much faster player than Dave ever was or ever will be. I can't stress enough that when just looking at speed these two guitarists are worlds apart.
@@maplesalt1482 yeah this guys comment was dumb lol. marty CHOOSES to not mindlessly play pentatonic as fast as possible lol. if he did it would blow dave out of the water
I know dave and dave are the "core" of megadeth, but to see them with anyone otther than marty and nick ... just feels wrong. marty and nick made rust and count down unique.
even gar and chris were fucking awesome though... I think that Gar has written the best megadeth drum parts (wake up dead, conjuring, good mourning, bad omen, holy wars (yes he did), take no prisoners, rust in peace and all of peace sells and killing is my business). I'm not saying nick is crap (i think he's a VERY VERY VERY GREAT drummer) but we should give more love to gar. Friedman is absolutely the best guitarist, always clean and precise in every solo😉
Megadeth seriously need to make a thrash masterpiece again, I do not care if it will have different elements to it, this same lineup needs to come forward again and work together for one last time to release the greatest Megadeth album. Megadeth has always been the most outstanding band when it comes to technicality which had the most unique thrash sound due to jazz elements, I verily hope it will happen. Dave Mustaine, I am talking to you, bring on the best riffs again!
Fre Hed True, but I feel he is still the best, he can again do it, I am not saying that they have to again make another Rust in Peace, ask any Megadeth fan and you will hear the same as I have expressed here.
I'm so thankful I was a guitar playing kid in the early 90s. Getting to see Megadeth with this line up, Pantera, Death, Sepultura with Max, Machine Head with the Burn My Eyes lineup, etc. It was a golden era for metal, though often overlooked.
This and Metallica in Toronto ‘86 are some of my favorite and fastest performances i have seen by metal bands. (I mean fastest as in faster than original recording speed)
Man this is Megadeth at their best. Amazing aggression. Of course you can tell that Dave and Junior are all over speedballs but man this is good and solid... And Marty is on fire....
Melhor formação do Megadeth!!
I LOVE THIS SHIT!!!
