I've met him a couple times, he hangs out with everyone when in public, no problem going up to chat...once got totally ripped with the slayer guys at a hotel bar in Huntington WV, and ended up at a rap and rnb dance club and Kerry king singing karaoke...WASTED, show was next day...how do they do it. I also got to see clash of the titans in San Diego, but missed AIC.
Layne, what a fucking talent. At that point probably wasn't the crowd for him or them but boy did he have some fucking pipes, his tone was something else.
they got so fucking big later on, from the footage of this tour I've seen the crowd of crackheads wasn't that interested at this point in time and Slayer fans did crazy shit to them, thank god they didn't wuss out
What was totally fked up as I saw this tour and Alice in Chains got totally screwed on the sound, I guess because they were a new band and hardly anybody knew who they were but the sound guy just fked them royally. I don't know if it was intentional or not because that was the only show on that tour I got to see so I had nothing to compare it to.
@@derekcleffi6476 True, but Dave also has a history of being a dick and later claiming it was all just joking ;) He is not the most believable person to me.
+DIMEDAMAGE I'm sure it was the fact that record labels made a deal with Mtv to produce these shows. Ricky was the host in Headbangers ball(poser) and Mustaine had to swallow that fact and endure the stupid interviews. Once Mtv started to have a metal show with all these bands music videos, I'm sure these bands had a contract which involves Ricky's irritating interviews... so! Mustaine and others had to bear that constant presence and it's mic everywhere!
Josh Martin Indeed. Something that I’ve personally been through. Being from Lafayette, IN. (Technically I’m from West Lafayette) where Jeff Isbell, (Izzy Stradlin) Bill Bailey, (Axl Rose) & Shannon Hoon (a distant relative) are from. Shannon would often return home to see his mom (Vernell or Nell) which gave me opportunities to fulfill every friends wish for Shannon’s autograph. But I always held onto one for myself. But when one of my best friends came back to visit (2 years after graduating from Purdue University) from Lynchburg, Virginia...he saw the autograph I’d held onto and flipped out as he was a big Blind Melon fan as well. (Both he and I consider Soup to be an incredible album way before its time and definitely one of the most underrated albums in rock history.) So before he left to go back to Virginia, I gave him Shannon’s autograph. Approximately 2 months later while in New Orleans as part of their tour, Shannon overdosed and passed away. Everyone who truly knew him were devastated. He was about as real it gets. He wore his heart on his sleeve and always went out of his way doing things for his friends and family and even complete strangers that even everyday people wouldn’t do. He is buried just outside Lafayette, IN. in Dayton, IN. If you’re a fan and ever happen to be driving on I-65 between Indianapolis & Chicago, just look for the State Road 38 exit (Dayton exit) in Lafayette IN.. Turn east (towards Dayton) and the graveyard he is buried in is about a half mile down 38 on your left hand side. In life I’m certain he would’ve very much appreciated the love he’s gotten in death.
OMG, how fucking HOOOOTTTT was Dave Mustaine back then!?!? Can a human being even be this hot? I mean, the hair, the gorgeous face, the talent what more can you ask for?
That is, by the far, the *best* concert coverage I've ever watched. Bar none. I knew Dave Mustaine had a crazy sense of humor, but never realized how hilarious Tom from Slayer and Chuck from Anthrax where. Anyone that saw this show, what an experience that must've been.
I was at this show! :-) Definitely a great time! I was 15/16 @ the time. I was so happy to see 3 of my favorite bands on the same stage same night. Alice in Chains was still new at the time because I wasn't sure who they were until they did man in the box. They were first to go on and the crowd was screaming "Slayer!":-) Wish I could go back.
I was there too and it was a great show. Unfortunately due to my buddy getting out of work late, I got there in the middle of Megadeth's set, so I missed Alice but luckily I got to see them still before Layne died. It was great seeing this documentary. Poor Riki, lol. He tried so hard but they just couldn't help using him as their punching bag.
Vavo Barbosa So true. This is the quality you could see when tuning in to MTV during this era. Of course, there was also shit bands and music being shown back then. Today, it’s horse shit being shown. Crazy to think. Nothing like this would ever be shown on TV today.
Dave mustain rocking some jordan retro 6ez lol. Then he mentions the bulls. Lol. And the 90s knicks and bulls blew up in the 90s. For those of you who dont watch basketball the 90s were the best era in basketball.
Pistons, bulls, rockets, spurs won championships in the 90's and the bulls won 6 titles!! The knicks we just a average team that got their ass kicked by the spurs in the 99 nba finals,1995 finals the Rocket's kicked their ass and the bulls kicked their ass every time they played them!!!
ricky seems like a poser, like i can totally picture him before the show getting dressed looking in the mirror and asking people, hows my outfit? is it "metal' enough?? lol totally
He is, for sure. He used to own a club in la that was a major hot spot for glam metal, etc. He was a major backer of bands like faster pussycat back when glam started going in that Guns N’ Roses-y direction. This is just a gig for him, really... I mean, it is what it is. I’m not trying to take anything away from the guy and I’m DEFINITELY not one of these thrashers who thinks that everyone else is a poser and a dick. But you’re right, in this case. If these bands all fell off the face of the planet, Rick would’ve been onto the next gig.
Caleb, he never went bald, he just shaves his hair off. he can still have a full head of hair if he wants. in fact he grew his hair last christmas I saw him around LA at the rainbow bar and grill
Wow, this would be my dream concert, alice in chains will always be my number 1 cause they made me who i am right now, but then Megadeth and Slayer??? Jeeee
1991 the titans came to Toronto i was 18 3rd row and 1st time seeing Alice in Chains and they stole the concert wow amazing then saw them again at Lalapaloza festival 90's were an awesome era R.I.P Layne Stanley & Mike Starr 🇨🇦🇭🇷 svoj mojoj braći i sestrama iz Hrvatske i cijele bivše Jugoslavije svu ljubav i poštovanje
Love seeing AIC. I've seen the other 4 (The Big Four) many times. Alice killed this show..Not one of these guys have Layne's pipes. I think Dave Mustaine is sexy but he seems angry here.
I wonder who's dressing room Dave stopped at? Possibly to say hi to AIC?. I love how Tom is always smiling. Slayer was introduced to me by my boyfriend. He was a thrasher through and through...may he rip!!!
Riki deserves props for bringing all these thrash and early death metal bands on mtv... none of the big 4 would have been as big as they are if it wasnt for him
I saw this tour in Toronto, but we missed out on Alice in Chains and half of Anthrax's set due to the unexpectedly long walk from our motel to the CNE grandstand. The walk there, sober, took 90 minutes, while the walk back, wasted, took four hours. Only really remember Slayer's set plus we were blown away by the fact that no one in our immediate seating area was toking up except us.
Zachary Maher Slayer was last, and the only band we really wanted to see. AIC opened, followed by Anthrax, then Megadeth, then Slayer. Another thing which was totally fucked at the CNE grandstand, which is an outdoor arena, was a smoking ban. We saw several hundred people get dragged out by security for smoking. We just got lucky I guess and didn't get caught. When the smoking ban was applied at all arenas in Ontario, I stopped going to concerts.
Saw the San Diego show in 91. I was a junior in high school. Megadeth did an autograph session across the street at Tower Records. I got my Peace Sells poster signed. Still have it. Was an epic show.
This came to my city approx two weeks before high school ended for me with graduating forever. The metalheads weren't exactly welcome at the prom or any of that other shit, so this show was pretty much our big send-off for high school and I guess our version of "senoir prom." It was awesome and still one of the best tours ever.
Abdul Rahim It’s not the big four tour it’s the clash of the titans tour and Alice in Chains was opening for the other bands. As I said previously I think it’s completely appropriate that Alice in Chains, a much smaller band at the time opened for giants like Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth. AiC and the previously mentioned bands were also on very good terms and were most likely requested to open up on the bands behest.
I saw this tour at DTE music theatre in Clarkston Mi. and it was great. It was my first time seeing Slayer and have seen them now 10 times. I have to say that of all the shows I have seen them do, that tour was the best.
I took my 15 year old cousin (20 for me) to this awesome, crazy-wild & memorable concert at the Philadelphia Spectrum (RIP) on June 29, 1991. So many crazy memories like seeing the guys from AIC walking in the concourse, seats were 2nd row behind the boards, almost caught Charlie's drum stick he threw to the crowd, and everyone was falling into each other to grab it. I guess the guy in a stupid Wrathchild America shirt in front of me was annoyed and stating that if I push him one more time, he would punch me in my face, big guys with long hair in back of me with Slayer shirts telling him he'd get a punch if he touched me, crowd breaking through the barricades during Anthrax, Jerry Mele, tour security, made an appearance. Chairs were stacked all over the floor, and cushions ripped out and thrown all around. That's just some of the things that happened that night 😂😮. Still got my ticket stub. Good time to be young & alive🤘
I saw this tour in Miami when I was 26 with my favorite old girlfriend that I still think about. She was so sweet and beautiful. Wonder what she's doing tonight? I should have married her instead she caught me cheating and never spoke to me again. I was so stupid at that age.
I was 14 during the Clash of the Titans tour. I didnt start going to concerts til I was 15 with my cousin Jeff, he was 23. I talked to a dude in a bar about 10 years ago that was a few years older than me that said he went to that concert. It's always been something I missed that I wish I could've gone to.
Saw this tour at Deer Creek in Noblesville Indiana. One of the absolute best shows ever!! Would have been cool if Testament had been there like they were supposed to be.
It was his poor attempt to look cool by being an asshole. He's annoying it's not even funny. I've seen better interviewers who looked badass but with substance.
when slayer were in their absolute fkn prime..3 of my fave albums, all within a year of each other-seasons, p.o.t, and rust in peace....unreal! then unfortunately the black album came out..
When they came to indy ,I had the greatest Pleasure of meeting ,Mike,Layne, and Jerry ,Had a Fantastic Conversation, I will never forget it...Thank you Titans
I'm Canadian but I crossed the border and saw this concert in Maine, it was wild. I found Megadeath got the crowd pumping the loudest. The mosh pit was downright dangerous. I bought a pair of Spot Built Monster sneakers just for the concert and they helped me thru some rough times with the skin heads!
Got to see Layne at Clash Of The Titans and I think everybody remembers when he sang this with Jerry. I had seen Janes & The Sundays (I think) a month before this show in 91'. Was too young to realize the Titans show aside from Slayer.
Black Eve I find it so funny to see him interviewing Dave, Dave always teased him with his attitude, h aha ha hah ha ahha a ha ha ha ha ha aha ha ha ha hah ah a. That's really funny.
Saw this tour at the Bonneville speedway in west valley Utah, it was a great outdoor show, doobies everywhere and endless beer, the good ole days of concerts before the fucking promoters and ticket agencies overpriced everything.
