10. United Abominations (Title Track) Just came to my head first 9. Deadly Nightshade (Thirteen) All round great song 8. Elysian Fields (Youthanasia) Harmonica Solo? Uhh. Check? 7. The Disinatgrators (Cryptic Writings) Fastest and most lively song on the album) 6. I'll Get Even (Cryptic Writings) Quite unique in their catalogue 5. Bad Omen (Peace Sells) Evil lyrics, evil solo, evil riffs, evil song 4. How The Story Ends (Endgame) Ladies and Gentleman - Mr. Chris broderick) 3. 44 Minutes (Endgame) Great Solos from Dave and Chris 2. Ashes In Your Mouth (Countdown) If you're fighting to live, then it's ok to die. 1. Psychotron (Countdown) Marty's solos melted my face
these are great picks, I considered most of these. "44 Minutes" I disqualified because it was a really popular song from that record. But probably valid
Ever since I stopped being an MH fan , Megadeth has been my go to. One of my recent favorites of deep cuts is Blood of Heroes, and Victory off of Youthansia. Cryptic Warnings, and Untited Abominations are the other two albums I listen to.
Nice list! I got the biggest smile when I saw number 1 (it’s been ages since I listened to Megadeth) and remembered how much I love that song. While on the subject of thrash, I’d love to see a ranking of Testament’s discography as unlike the Big 4, they don’t have as extreme differences in quality that those bands do. Love seeing you upload again as not many reviewers can be as succinct & articulate as your videos :)
You're absolutely right, Testament is arguably more consistent than all of the big four. I haven't done their full catalogue yet, but I discuss The Gathering in detail here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-abJAXcg0b_4.html
Coming up with a ten song list for Megadeth can't be easy. If you think about it, every Megadeth album has roughly 10 songs (8-13 in some cases, whatever), and if you take 10 from roughly 160, you're excluding 15 albums worth of material. That being said, I would definitely include a some tracks from United Abominations, I feel like that album is underrated as a whole. Thirteen is pretty underrated too, now that you mention it. Also, not a deep cut, but Night Stalkers is one of their greatest songs of the new era IMO.
Calling Endgame and Dystopia modern classics is just a big bitch slap to the whole modern thrash metal genre. You should be ashamed to even think that, not to mention you said it loud lmao
Legacy bands have classic albums, and if they're lucky, "modern classics" as well, in which they uphold the high standards of their prime during the modern era. The latter is much tougher to achieve than the former. Pointing this out has absolutely nothing to do with discrediting the Vektors and Warbringers of the world. Completely separate discussions.
But I don't think that making enjoyable album after classic one is enough to call it modern classic. I also don't think that any of the Big4 bands uphold the high standards of their prime during the modern era. Dystopia and Hardwired has their moments but overall, they don't have enough ideas and material to justify their length.
