Dave reveres Marty. In a documentary Dave describes the moment that Marty started playing at his audition as "the heavens opened and the angels started singing".
It's beauty is down to it being modally and melodically perfect, but far more importantly... it sounds 'kin great! I maybe being a little over the top, but I think in centuries to come this will be considered a classic of our time and people will still be playing it.
I've gotta say, after hearing Kiko, Kiko nails that solo as close to perfect as possible. Marty sounded like he messed up slightly in one part of that solo.
@@bobgriffin473 True story. I listened to RiP while driving to the bowling alley the other day, while wearing my new RiP Hawaiian-style shirt...and I kicked so much ass while bowling, I won 3 beers from my buddy!
low key mad respect for kiko stepping back and doing the rhythm part and letting marty do the solo unlike when they both did harmony during countdown that shit was like perfect
it was planned out way in advance dude. Kikos not being respectful, hes doing the job he was given for this show. why do you think the sound guy pushed Marty for the solo? its a planned performance
Voted over and over as the best solo…. Little wonder why. Marty is a fantastic musical writer. Everything he touches has a beautiful, melodic sound to it. Kudos to Dave having him on stage with them. Hope they all went out for beers afterward…. 🤟🏼
@muzallisam5068 meanwhile they released their softest album of all time "Risk" and then Marty left. I don't really buy that story about Marty leaving because Megadeth was trying to be heavier, it was actually the complete opposite.
@@mccallosone4903 No one compares to Marty, especially the work HE has done with the band. Because of Marty's strong impact, I'm not just liking Marty's work in the band, but his solo work too. So brilliant he is man.
Nobody can replicate his bends and vibrato. And why should they? Marty's technique is completely unique, like Eric Gales. Trying to play exactly like them would be absurd.
The solo of this song will always be on my top 5 best metal solis ever in history.. the solo of the killing road is also on my top ten. Viva Marty friedman and Megadeth.
@@AcidWords1you took the words right out of my mouth. But then again, look at what they're doing with Dio with the hologram with a live band. Fucking creepy
@@AcidWords1maybe, in this scenario, he didn’t die dead enough? Ayyy. For real though, Nick’s death at such a young age (51, I believe??) is just a total bummer. Dave was trying to talk him into coming back in 2014 and 2015. Nick was like, “I’ll think about it but I need to finish these tours first. I’m loyal dude,” and then he died on stage. It sucks. Dude was a great drummer. Very underrated, and very consistent. Dystopia really needed Chris Adler to work, and Dirk does an amazing job playing Adler’s parts and he did great on their latest album, but I’ll always miss Nick’s straight forward punch style of playing.
It's not like Marty ever left on bad terms, he was feeling creatively unfulfilled when he left Megadeth and despite Dave's resistance to the idea of letting Marty go, it was for the best (for Marty's sake, at least). But now we get to enjoy moments like these.
He is the reason I LOVE Kellys and the Explorer shape in general. My KEX Kelly, Wylde Audio Buzzsaw Blood Eagle, and West Creek Explorer are my favorite guitars in the collection. They are only topped by my Epi Alex Lifeson Sig. I wish he had an Explorer in the same setup and options as his Les Paul.
@@ashleywoolnough4884 very, very good point . I've been following his solo work. Really good stuff! I was actually quite disappointed at the way Mustaine handled the whole ordeal. In an act of what was seemingly moral and virtuistic hogshitttery, fighting the battle of preserving the pristine image and following yett never, ever deviating from, the path of purity, honesty, restraint, chastity, and sobriety he himself and many other band mates have had since anyone anywhere can remember, his only choice was evident. Backed into a corner was he. Horseshit. That was the last time he would EVER pay another MEGADETH "bandmate" that sort of money. Dave was the last bandmate. Temp labor on the books from here on out and the savings will be enormous! Mustaine cared not one iota that David was ZOOMflappin' pappy to a legal, above the age of consent young lady whilst married to another woman who remained, until she didn't, unaware of the ongoing papflappery. Pissed she was when she found out. Rightfully so. Sticks with David. He didn't carry through with a physical slammhogging of the aforementioned young lady, just a bit of peek and furious waggle. Forgiveness is a powerful tool built solely from honest, genuine love. But, forgiveness only goes so far towards the mortgage, braces, school shoes and septic system treatments. It actually does NOTHING now those checks stop being deposited. Wishing she hadn't made such a spectacle about the discovery of the GoOgLeMeAtBeAtS meetings, especially within earshot or email to Mustaine . That was his ticket to ride solo. The albatross of friendship and what he referred to as "Brotherhood" was no longer around his wallet chains. That born again shit is for the media articles and the last few moments of life. That's when your hail Mary pass means the most. Dethbed 180° - Mustaine 101. Sneaky, slimy mothafuggga. But wholly expected.
Old magic never dies. I remember seeing Clash of the Titans tour in 90-91, and was blown away then. It's awesome to feel some of that old magic again. Get out there and see your favorite band... life is crazy short for all of us. Rust in Peace!
I really miss those days. It was such a great time to be alive. I feel like the advent of technology has done a lot of damage to the arts because there’s just too much going on, constantly. There’s no time to stop and think about what’s going on and then create something, because people have already forgotten whatever it was that you’re writing about. And even if they haven’t, there’s no time to stop and listen to whatever you created. It’s great for revisiting where we were, but sometimes it makes me realize that we took a wrong turn somewhere, whether it was avoidable or not.
I never got over Marty leaving Megadeth. I always loved him way more than the others. Watching this brings me to tears. Because it's just temporary, and because his playing is so beautiful.
I'm not really a huge fan of thrash, but that solo has to be a contender for best ever rock guitar solo. It just flows; it leads you on a journey and just keeps building the tension...absolutely brilliant!
Kiko is such an humble guy goes back and let marty and dave having their moment! Kiko is great person and guitarist best thing happened to megadeth❤🇧🇷❤🤟❤
What a moment. I love that it doesn't seem like they're doing these shows for the hype. They're genuinely celebrating Marty and how much he did for the band, and the guitar as an instrument.
This is THEE solo everyone wants to hear. Crowds reaction says it all and even Dave and kiko stepped back to let Marty have center stage during that section. Cool to see Marty with his trademark Jackson Kelly again.
It also doesn't hurt that Marty Friedman has lived in Japan for over a decade now, and has been a TV personality there pretty much the entire time. If you look at the social media accounts of Japanese HM bands & members, they were all super excited to see him play with them, and it seemed like they ALL went to the show.
@@gennaro4941believe this dude , any person that can honestly say they never wept from listening to music or watching a concert is definitely not a musician or a real fan of music
I literally cried when he started the solo. He is such a genius. So great to hear him perform it with the band again. Great audience reactions to the solo as well. And the other band members stepping back leaving him the center place on stage. Awesome to watch.
Kiko is so gracious, this is so awesome on so many levels! When dave kiko and james stepped back in unison when marty nails the tornado of souls solo gave me goosebumps 🤘 🔥🔥🔥
Impresionante.
The way the crowd erupted right before the solo section because everyone knew what Marty was about to do. God I wish Marty and Dave were still in the band. Megadeth still owns regardless
I actually cried .... then don't get me wrong - what Kiko & Dirk & James did to Megadeth is amazing and we wouldn't have "we'll be back" without them so ... hats off BIG TIME ... but Marty is Marty ... i saw them in 1992 ... and this actually brought me to tears
Absolutely! Emotions flowing too! Saw them at House of Blues, Hollywood, CA in 1999 or 2000…can’t remember I was just a teen, but it was a blast seeing them in a tiny venue!
yesss! back in 96 I heard this masterpiece for the first time on a sony walkman in a old, mouldy, dilapidated house and it filled me with excitement and such awe of Marty Friedman's Solo skills and use of colour, hitting those magic notes, that most metal guitarists bypass at 200 mph those sweet plump Purple notes!
Megadeth was suppose to playing in Budokan when Marty was in the band, but it did not happen and Marty was super sad...now Dave made it happen after 23years...he wanted Marty to get that budokan show.
I would have killed to see Marty play this live! Many can play the solo...only one can do it with the style it was designed to be played in! It sounded so good with a phone recording...can't imagine how awesome it sounded in person!
@@extrememind100 I’ve always thought that bit is the hardest part of the solo, with the little sweeps and slides. To get it all sounding perfectly smooth anyway. I’m not surprised he doesn’t get it totally perfect live, or do it exactly the same as on the album.
It wouldn't have been awesome to have just a short clip of Menza drumming along to this on the screens to close out the song as a tribute. This itself is still absolutely incredible
This was amazing! I watched the entire concert last night on Megadeth’s website and it was epic! Listening to Marty play Tornado of Souls live felt like I got to listen to the song for the first time again! It was amazing! So happy they put on this concert!
Pretty visible the difference of energy Marty applies on his pick playing comparing to Kiko and any other Megadeth guitarrist. Incomparable punch and unique technique.
Marty is just …….different…… he is so dam unique. He has a really good interview with Rick Beato where he talks about purposefully never trying to sound like anything he heard anyone else do.
