The best part of this event is that now we get to add to the list of Megalovania's different iterations (Undertale Megalovania, Smash Ultimate Megalovania, etc.) by referring to this Megalovania as the "Pope Megalovania", and that is a hilarious thing to say
either The Pope specifically requested this song, fully aware of the meme and perhaps implying he played MatPat's copy of Undertale OR the troupe was in on the joke & just pulled the biggest meme at The Vatican in front of one of the biggest religious leaders in the world...OR, this was the biggest coincidence of all time & the universe wanted this meme to come to its peak fruition.
I actually think the idea that it's a coincidence is very likely when you consider that this was just some random circus trope and this arrangement of the song goes really well with the circus theme. It's very possible somebody suggested this years ago and this is now just a song they sometimes perform.

So, let's get this straight: Toby made an edgy rom-hack of EarthBound when he was young and made Megalovania as a song for it. Then Megalovania was featured in Homestuck, a popular web-comic (I believe. I'm gonna be honest, I don't even know what Homestuck is.) Then Toby made Undertale, which exploded into popularity worldwide, and had been rated as the best game ever numerous times. And of course Megalovania was in Undertale. And then, Toby was able to get sans into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, allowing him to put a new version of Megalovania in there aswell. And now, a decade or so after a young Toby composed that song for a rom-hack, it's being played in front of the f-ing Pope. Crazy shit.
You left out the best parts, which are before and after this segment - the frequent cuts to the Pope, who looks just as baffled as you'd expect. With half-hearted waves and claps and an expression of mild concern. Before this, there's people juggling fire, a person who looks like Boy George playing Oh Solo Mio on bells and wine bottles, and a clown in a black suit and pink hat playing the trombone, and the Pope is clearly just completely lost. The whole thing goes on so long that by the time it gets to Megalovania, it's not even a "what the ****?" moment, it's "This act has been so goddamn weird already, this might as well happen".

(not 100%, i listened to this at like 1 am so i dont remember)

Look. At the start, he seemed good with the 'no golden symbols' thing but he's kinda gone down into degeneracy a bit. Many Catholics especially in America don't respect him because of the political positions he's taken when he's supposedly not political. In addition, there are weird things he's allowed that the Church doesn't normally allow. Benedict was more based than him. Francis has been peer pressured into many things. On Twitter or Facebook, Francis had been seen accidently liking strange content from a model/p***star.
