I meant to cover this before, but I was never quite sure how I should go about it. I'm pretty sure enough now, however.

How beautiful is the melody of megaman in the genesis

Holy hell sir. This is a great rearrangement. It's a shame there was never an official X game on Genesis. Soundchip is perfect for the series

As always the Square wave (even as imperfect as they are), add sooo much oomph for the high tones :).

As much as I love Genesis guitars and their much metal-ish sound on the Genesis, I do prefer SNES guitars since they actually do sound like guitars (mostly because of the fact that the Genesis uses FM and the SNES uses PCM), but I don’t know how you did it, the guitars on here sound like actual guitars, and I love it. You even replaced the synth with a guitar at some point, a guitar that sounded like an actual guitar as well.

Way better than the original!

Terrible sample quality, that's why. The Genesis is FM Based, so most things you could do on it could be remade with ease, unless it's the PCM/DAC which uses low quality samples. The SNES(and GBA, but it is lower quality) is entirely sample based, meaning the instruments for SNES songs would need to be recreated from scratch if you wanted to give the song higher quality instruments. The SEGA Genesis is easier to give higher quality music for in practice. That, and people actually want there remixes to sound decent.

@@spicybreadproductions1972 The SNES had some fine sounding music, X1 being a great example. X3 is notorious for its dingy and grating sounding guitar samples. The composer (Kinuyo Yamashita) said she was under some strict time constraints, which is likely why the music wasn't as finely tuned as the first game.

it's not just the music either, i've heard the entirety of X3 was developed in like 5 months

Clean
@PointReflex

I like it, a lot in fact. Most importantly because it doesn't have any distorted instruments that for some reason people like to put in their FM renditions :/, its clean but not beyond what the hardware was capable of, its a verbatim copy with its own FM style and most importantly, its pleasant to the ears. To me Megaman X3 never had a good soundtrack to begin with, the instruments and composition felt generic, but this intro theme and the main song of the "Airport" stage are the exception.
@DehnusNorder
@DehnusNorder 4 года назад
Well it has a few magnificent songs like Blizzard Buffalo and Gravity Beetle. But yeah, it has a lot lacking as well compared to some others. Just the CD version and the SNES version seems... forced instrumentation wise. As for distortion: Check savaged regime, his Megadrive songs are TIGHT! Distortion for when it's needed and clarity for when it's wanted :).

The compositions X3 uses are pretty solid. It's let down by that awful distorted guitar sample used in the majority of songs. This is why X3's intro stage theme stands out. The primary instrument here is a keyboard, not a guitar.

Somehow I missed this. From the very first note, it was already a vast improvement over the SPC version. The tinny dissonance of the samples they used in X3 are absent in favour of something much easier on the ears. It lets the composition really steal the show the way it always should have and I appreciate the song a lot more now. People can talk all they want about how dirty the OPN2 time-division mixing sounda but this is smooth as butter and twice as healthy while Capcom's original samples were just awful.

For the most part I'm not very fond of Capcom music on SNES which often has poor drums, whiny leads and even some farty trumpets at times but there are exceptions and the original version of this tune is kind of one since it's pretty good with a sweet nostalgic vibe to it. But still, you improved it nicely with your cover. The drums are sooo much better, the bass is rounder and the lead is more epic. Very well done! 👍

King of dragons snes sounds surprisingly close to the arcade, but then you have complete duds like Captain Commando

@@Maru96 I've heard good things about snes' King of dragons. is it worth playing for a reason or another next to the arcade or should I just bother with the latter? and yeah, the music in snes' captain commando is awful. the epitome of whiny leads!
@Maru96

The arcade is better but the snes port is pretty good, best Capcom port on the console. The one thing it has over the arcade is a dedicated button to block, though it's not hard to learn how to block in the arcade.

Use that pause to further cultivate your knowledge. The more you look into "indie" covers, the more likely you'll change your mind and never look back.
