Yes, we love the upbeat sexy songs, but we also love the deep songs that we can also relate to or at least humanize the artist with. And people compare EVERY rap girly to Nicki because she is the bar based on her longevity and stats. Fuck the stan beef. It is about respecting what the standard is in someone's field. Just like we do it for the men (Drake vs KDot vs Cole, etc). We do it with the women. It shouldn't be so controversial or weird.

Genuinely curious on what people want to hear from her in order to consider her a more versatile artist. She has songs rapping about her anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, using sex and being hyper sexual as a coping mechanism (although, granted, that did seem to go over a lot of y’all’s heads but how’s it her fault you couldn’t read between the lines?) she has songs talking about grieving, being backstabbed and betrayed, being surrounded by fake people and feeling alone, never being checked on by anyone in her life, and the list can go on. She’s made deep songs, fun songs, and twerk music which yes is her brand so yes she’s always gonna include that. It seems like people want her to stop rapping about sex completely in order to consider her a versatile artist but I’m not sure why she’s expected to step completely away from her brand??? Sonically, her discography and especially this album is incredibly diverse and she explores different sounds and styles a lot. She’s a Texan rapper so she’s always gonna include Texas-esque rap which is also what I think people want her to move away from in order to consider her a diverse artist (and tbh it basically just seems like people want her to change herself completely but she shouldn’t have to do that and we all know if she did she’d be called fake) She’s rapping in a whole other language in the album, included a lot of anime references which no other mainstream rapper is doing to my knowledge and that made her album more unique to me. I’m just not sure what people want from her. I guess if the lyrics aren’t rapped in a bunch of different goofy voices she’ll never be counted as a ‘versatile’ artist.

Hotties seem to be confused as to what we mean by changing her sound, and changing her sonically approach as a whole. We don’t mean that she has to change the genre, we mean her approach towards a topic needs to change. A good example of this is Scarlet, Doja have four songs that talk about love Can’t Wait, Agora Hills, Often, and Disrespectful. Each song have the same topic love and being in a relationship, but each of them have a different approach to them. Can’t Wait is more appreciative approach, Agora Hills is lustful, Often is sensual, and Disrespectful is playful. Each song talking about the same topic, but handled differently from one another.

I feel like when most people say they want her to “evolve” or show versatility they want her to sing or go pop like other artists have. Megan likes to rap and has remained a hip hop artist. Now Megan has a lot more executives in her life whole enjoy the profits of her classic sound, and are encouraging Megan to chase money more than creativity. Megan’s creative as hell! I think she’s more creative when she has creatively focused people in her life. I hope she gets that again soon. Holly was a rapper herself, and there’s really sweet clips on them together, like Holly coaching Megan to go harder and emphasize certain words on Realer, and them playing piano together. ❤

I actually think Traumazine was way more introspective and vulnerable than any of her other projects. And when it comes to your point on the Megan album not having its own sound I agree, Cobra and Mamushi for me sonically were the standouts when it comes to her evolution in terms of sound. I like this album but Traumazine has been her best album so far IMO

As the Megan fan, I’m going to have to agree! I was really hoping for a bit more with this album! I’m still going to listen. I’m still going to Support. Because again I love her and I love her brand. But I think people automatically go off about her because to be honest when her and Tori were going back-and-forth, a lot of the media and blogs did her dirty.. and I think we’re just tired of it. But the longer this review went on it gave hater. This Album sounds nothing like “Good New” nor “Traumazine”..it didn’t even sound like any of her mixed tapes. Two vulnerable tracks where she delves more into her mental health, guitar/rock vibes and literally saying words in Japanese. Also what about "Anxiety" and the track "Her" from Traumazine? Literally a vogue anthem which I felt was such a different sound for Meg. I do feel like she has given us versatility if I'm honest. Also let's not forget the amazing pop feature she did with Reneé Rapp, I don't think we should underestimate her creativity and confuse flow with cadence

Yeeeees however Where Them Girls At, BAS, Otaku Hot Girl, and Miami Blue gave me EVERYTHING I needed. They were bops but I feel like they were overlooked because of the rest of the album. Like I could see alllll of those ones topping charts. She just keeps pushing the wrong ones.

This is another reason like Doja is in my top 5 female artists. She’a very versatile and her sound has evolved no shade to Megan but her style is very repetitive when it comes to certain topics I feel like it’s her comfort zone so she just stick to what works

When it comes to the Megan album isn’t it supposed to be an album of who she is. So it’s gonna be a variety of sounds which it does have. So I don’t think it supposed to be one theme or common sound like the other artist you mentioned. But does seem the standards for women in rap is different from the male counterparts. They have the same subject matter and hop on whatever beat is current or popular at the time and they are loved. But again everyone has their own take. I commend her for doing it independently, writing her raps, especially in a time where so many want her to fail or just simply don’t like her. And she puts on a great show.

Scarlett was the first rap album i have ever listen to. I work at a storage company and it gets boring. So one day i listened to her album from beginning to the end and that has to be her best album. Its perfect. She showed is she can really rap! ❤

I do agree when you said that if Megan was to change the cadence in her voice more in her songs it would do a lot for her music BUT I also feel that if she did this the barbs would only say that she's just trying to sound like Nicki and I think thats a fear Megan may have when it comes to changing her cadence. If people gave the girl the grace to do so, i think she would commit to things and "evolve" more as an artist, but unfortunately, people already nitpic her music as it is.

I think she could give us more as well but she's so in demand who knows when that will be!
