Installing a Megasquirt MS3 on my 2001 NB Miata, including the wideband O2 sensor. I also made electrical drawings to make the wiring easier to understand.
This should apply to 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 mx-5s. I do not mention it in the video, but VVT appears to work fine with the default settings in tuner studio.
After this video, I successfully turbocharged my miata! Here is the first video in that series, Turbo NB Miata Part 1: • Turbo NB Miata Install...

This is the most helpful video I have found to install and wire a wideband into Megasquirt. Thank you!

Been fighting my 04 msm for like 2 weeks after rebuilding it and putting some 700cc injectors in it. I still have a lot of work to do with the tune but I finally got it to fire up and run on its own for a bit. I plan to work on it more when I get home from work and people wake up in the neighborhood. Hopefully it sees its first road trip in 4 years later today! Good video, would be great to go into more detail on some of the settings once you start getting it dialed in.

How long did the AFR gauge take to heat up for you the first time? Mine has been stuck saying heat for a long time, probably waited 5-10 minutes.
@EnigmaEngineering
@EnigmaEngineering Год назад
It should be heated up in less than 2 minutes. One way to test this is to order a cheap variable DC voltage power supply off amazon and just test it out of the car. I test all my gauges like this before I install them

Super helpful video! Do you have the link for the O2 sensor extender?

Does anyone know if you unplug the MAF and just run the wideband ? or if u still need the maf after you've installed everything?

Can I use the stock air temp sensor?

Thanks for this very comprehensive video! I am about to begin a Track Dog Racing Rotrex Supercharger installation and will be using the MS3 for my 2002 Miata. One question I have for you is why you chose to wire your AEM AFR Gauge to the factory Harness and not directly from Gauge to MS3? Is this mandatory or just an option. I have the Innovate PSB-1 Boost/AFR gauge and Racing Beat Header with Wideband O2 Sensor bung. I am seeing others who wire directly to MS3 Accessary port with one wire from the gauge for signal and just leave the stock upstream O2 sensor installed and connected. I am guessing you do not have a midstream bung welded into your exhaust and are using the factory headers bung to run your wideband setup. What am I missing here. And thanks for any response!

Hi Tony! There might be some way of wiring it similar to the way you suggest, but I just followed AEM's manual and recommended install method. I am a bit apprehensive about sending and receiving extra accessory signals with controllers like the ms3 unless these signals are 100% essential, because an electrical short or blown fuse could take out the whole ECU in a second. This is why I re-used those ECU wires. You are correct - I removed my midstream o2 sensor and am just running the one closer to the headers (the wideband here), then re-using the OEM wires into the harness for less of a wire mess. Hope this helps. Good luck with your supercharger!

This is probably the most visualy compreensive video on the subject. Nice to finally see one on the nb! Did you have any problems with your alternator regulation?
@EnigmaEngineering
@EnigmaEngineering Год назад
Thank you Guillaume! I did not have any problems with voltage regulation until the other day. But, I think it is my fault (traveling so can't verify). The alternator settings in tunerstudio pull regulation voltage over a throttle position of 101% for additional power (you can change this). So, it will run rock solid at 14V, then suddenly drop if you exceed 101% TPS. My data is showing 0 to 102.5% TPS. I just need to rescale my pedal and hopefully it fixes it. Or bump up that alternator % setting. Hope this helps

Why would you need a gm air temp sensor if you already have a Mazda one?
@LoganDiehl2
@LoganDiehl2 7 месяцев назад
The GM supposedly reacts faster to temperature changes! Great to have with a turbocharged car

Thanks! DB9 usb to serial cable, then tunerstudio software. You might need to install a driver for the cable. It plugs into the back of the megasquirt

Is there any reason you did not utilize the CAN function of the AEM wideband? My ecu is coming Monday and I’m at crossroads on deciding which way to go
@EnigmaEngineering
@EnigmaEngineering Год назад
I prefer working with signals that I can measure with a voltmeter when possible. I don't know enough about the CAN bus signal type to be comfortable using it. If it was required, I would use it. But otherwise I'll stick to the tried and true DC voltage. Let me know if you try the CAN out though!
@jacksonhamblin5242
@jacksonhamblin5242 Год назад
@@EnigmaEngineering I think I’m going to try to use the can, my hope is with the faster response it can possible improve drivability, which is very important it to me being that it is a daily driver. Only downside is that if I want to add another can device that is not AEMnet, such as canchecked, I will have to get a different can wideband or use regular 0-5v.

I'm guessing you had both factory o2 sensors and the Wideband was a 3rd? because i saw no check engine light

I hope this isn’t a dumb question but once you find a good 12 volt supply for your wide band how do you go about using that 12 volt source ?
@thefoodcan
@thefoodcan 11 месяцев назад
I would use that 12v power supply and hook it up to a relay. This basically turns your 1 12v source into multiple sources

Any idea why my idle is hunting with the a/c on? I have the tune set up pretty good but at idle a/c won’t blow cold and the idle rises and falls when the comp kicks on. But driving it blows cold.
