The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) has vowed to intensify its checks on non-tribal laborers in Meghalaya if the state government fails to address its concerns over influx.
The decision comes after a meeting between KSU leaders and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday ended without a concrete resolution. KSU President Lambokstarwell Marngar expressed dissatisfaction with the talks, saying the union would continue its checks on work permits of non-tribal laborers across the Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
The KSU is demanding the implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016, and the strengthening of the Work Permit Act to combat influx effectively. The union is also pushing for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
The standoff between the KSU and the government is likely to escalate tensions in the region, with the union refusing to back down on its demands. The government has promised to examine the matter, but the KSU is seeking concrete action to address its concerns.
