The thing about The Princess Diaries example that bothers me so much is that Meghan completely missed to point of that movie: it was all about how much sacrifice comes with the glamor and the opportunity. I watched it when I was 10 or 11 and the scene that stayed with me the most was when the queen explained to Mia that being a princess was not about wearing beautiful dresses, living in castles, and falling in love with a prince. “It’s a real job.” If the 16-year-old Mia (who was thrust into that world) could understand that, why couldn’t the 30-something Meghan (who actively courted it) figure that out?

I think that Meghan’s big problem is the desire for instant gratification: she expected superstardom to be handed to her and wasn’t prepared to do the work to get it herself. Diana became a true star, but that was after years of dedicated public service and blossoming into the role. It didn’t happen overnight. Catherine is beloved now, but that was after a long road of acceptance. Many of the biggest pop divas and screen sirens had to pound the pavement and work their way up to reach the level of stardom they are at now. All she had to do was knuckle down.

What stood out to me about her reference to "The Princess Dairies" is the not so subtle dig at Anne Hathaway. She put the emphasis on the word "old", with that slight change in her voice. I've been around an attention-seeking narcissist for most of my life, and I know an envious dig when I hear it. She's mad she failed as an actress, she's mad she wasn't top dog in the RF, and now she's bitter, envious, and stewing in her own narcissism.
It is also a clear way MM can imply she is younger than her years! ( I am about her age and in the past she referenced movies of our upbringing that impacted her thoughts on life and some media outlets questioned why she was referencing ancient movies. Hi Pluto, just want to give you a little info for colonialism. I'm vietnamese and Vietnam was a colony of France. We have explerienced and learnt the difference between countries being French colonies versus British colonies. The treatment by British empire was far much better and with respect to the people and their culture. They didn't destroy but rather even helped preserved the indigenous culture! We, vietnamese wish we could have been a British colony rather than French colony, if we had to be a colony of any country back then. So to say the the British Royal Monarchy has to own their action back to the colonialism means all other countries' governments should do the same to their respective previous colonial countries.

She then signed over custody so her kids could take their grandparents last name and call them mom and dad, so they wouldn't have to explain the situation to their peers and friends. She doesn't know if it was the right choice, but it's the choice she believed was the best for her kids. Her daughter grew up to be an immigration lawyer, but their relationship was sacrificed for her to grow up in a stable household.

Same with me. I took two semesters in Spanish in college - it is challenging to conjugate verbs - but other than that I remember so many words and how to ask What's your name, where are you from, how much something costs, etc. I live in Los Angeles and I have made it an effort to learn as much Spanish as I can. If she took 4 years and lived in Canada (albeit not Quebec) but she would have definitely had exposure to French.

Meghan's story about Ashleigh attending the wedding doesn't add up. Meghan was scared in case anyone asked her if she has never had anything to do with Sam how is it she knows Ashleigh. Meghan didn't want questions being asked nor did she want Ashleigh talking to the celebrities that didn't know Meghan but we're invited and obviously more important than family. In Meghan's head it made sense to uninvite Ashleigh, problem solved no questions asked dirty secrets could remain dirty secrets.
Also I get the idea that her Markle and Ragland relatives are not posh and sophisticated' enough to be a part of her life. She doesn't need them and she is probably embarrassed by them.

The British Empire brought a lot of good to its colonies: incredible infrastructure-railroads, school systems, legal/judicial systems, buildings, roads, bridges, clean water, medicine. It’s not popular to say so now, but they brought civilization to the most backward areas on the plant. And they weren’t all looking to make money! The majority were missionaries who risked their lives to help people they didn’t even know. You can judge that as right or wrong-but their *intentions* were pure.

IMO MEGHAN SET UP HER DADDY: The same reporter who set up Mr. Markle with those pictures is the same reporter that H's wife uses for pap pics. There's a scene in the mockuseries with M & H, a dog and this reporter. Coincidence? Nah,,, I'd bet $$$ that Meghan set up her DADDY for embarrassment so she didn't have to invite him to the wedding. He didn't even get an official wedding invitation in the mail but penned that letter to him knowing it would hit the public.
I don't believe for one second that there was no protocol training available for Meghan. It's more likely she thought that she didn't need any, probably offended by the idea of having to learn anything of the sort, after all, she's the smart nerdy one.

QE2 offered to make the Harkles Ambassadors to Africa. They'd have continued as Sr. working royals without the traveling & hand shaking other Sr royals do. IOWs, the Queen offered them what *Harry* wanted: to live & work in Africa while also being a Sr working royal, as he'd done before he met M. Maybe Harry will remember this fact some day; but, I'm losing hope for him.
