What a Great Drum Sound

That droning middle portion of this song was entrancing, the melodic repetition really got me in a way that doesn’t often happen. And damn does that ride and hats sound good. Curious how much such a ride costs. Been a Rodney fans since I saw that wild cowbell lick from the old Meinl Festival from years back. I still play that groove every now and then if I wanna show off... I’m sure I do if wrong and it still sounds/looks cool.

I love Rodney's playing, and I have to say this is a great-sounding ensemble of cymbals. It's a relatively small setup, but he's got a good variety of non-overlapping sounds that all work with each other. I'd be happy with this setup.

I learned a lot from playing with and listening to the late great Ricky Lawson. He “played the song” instead of making the song about his abilities. I see that same quality in you, Rodney. Although I know you have chops galore, you “play the song” and make the listening experience something it should be....felt! And what I really dig is that you bring that approach to fusion. Well done 👍🏾.

What I appreciate about his playing is he seems to always have the song in mind, and only plays what serves the song, but still manages to corporate little bits of subtle details. Making odd time signatures flow like this is very difficult.

Check out the CD "The Color of Dark" from the late Clyde Criner with Rodney playing drums. The late Victor Bailey on bass, too. Came out in '89. Good stuff

Great...Tasteful playing as always!...In '99 I was lucky enough to share a bill with Rodney at The Bitter End...Not only did I get to see him play up close and personal, but he was kind enough to chat with me at the bar for a few minutes about his gig with one of my musical heroes Carlos Santana...Great drummer and great guy!...Thanks Rodney.
