Mel Brooks gave us sooo much of his talent and gave so many laughter for generations to come. And right as Matthew Broderick started to sing, Mel started to cry, because he can remember every single word he wrote of his songs. And I bet Mel was thinking in the back of his head all the people whom had passed on he worked with, Gene Wilder, Zero Mostel, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn, all the people who brought his characters to life!!! I whole heartedly agree. It's a damn shame that people get so easily offended these days that it's probably impossible to make a movie on par with what he has made in the past and that's a damn shame for filmmaking in general.

SoraKirin They gotta make that kind of film anyway. Can't let the overly sensitive stop that. They can choose not to watch the film or do whatever it is that they do when not making others miserable with their lack of humor. They should be so lucky to have another Mel Film.

I’ll always love Mel for both pushing boundaries and adhering to them. He knew always that satire and comedy punched up, never down. He’s had his missteps, as we all do, but he held firm that those suffering weren’t where you get laughs.

I was surprised about no Young Frankenstein, too. It was one of his crowning achievements with Gene Wilder. Maybe they couldn't do Puttin' On The Ritz for some reason?

This entire tribute is perfection: first for Mel and his genius, and then to see the joy and humanity of Barack and Michelle, and just for this moment, to remember what the White House was like back then, and will, we sincerely hope, rise to that level again.

Mel Brooks came around when the world really needed a good laugh. If he was born in the X-generation or later he would have been torn to shreds for his comedy. I think we forgot how to look at what colossal asses we made of ourselves and laugh. Everyone is so serious today. We, as a people, need to laugh so much that it hurts. How long has it been since you had such a good laugh where you lost all control? We got so focused on the negatives of life that we lost the good aspects. Mel was a godsend, but once he passes (he will eventually) who will carry the torch?
