think about the fact that _Galipoli, Breaker Morant, Phar Lap, Year of Living Dangerously, The Lighthorsemen, Dead Calm, MAD MAX2 & THUNDERDOME, and Man From Snowy River_ kicked the crap out of Hollywood for the entire decade of the 80s.
Blockbusters are what they bring in compared to what they cost to make. For instance, a movie can make 200 million and be a flop cause it cost 300 million to make. Likewise, a movie can make 150 million but only cost 25 million to make and it would be considered a blockbuster. So, "blockbuster" status, like "flop" status is based on PROFITS, not total box office.
It's how much it cost to make vs what it brings in. The movie that made 5.7 million probably cost very little to make. Meanwhile, the movie that made 10 million probably cost a ton to make. Let's say a movie makes 200 million. It's not for sure a blockbuster. If it cost 300 million to make, it would be considered a flop. Likewise, a movie that made 10 million, but cost 1 million to make, is considered a hit. Hope this helps. Think PROFITS, not income.
