Jumping into her career starting with Faerie Soiree is wild 🤣 and yes Melanie is small, she's like 5'1 or 5'2.. I met her once and was surprised. The video and song to me are about a mushroom trip and/or fae. Fae are a creature of European folklore who trick people, trap them in their circle, and hypnotise them into dancing. But Melanie just made it into a nice little faerie party. Her albums are very visual so she's gonna have a music video for every song on Portals. Portals is also kind of based in the afterlife, the pink creature is her soul, and the album starts with her dying in the first song Death, and ends when she's reborn in the last song Womb

That’s the concept for her recent album “Portals” (this song is from that album) It’s about life after you die. She’s dead but her soul is stuck in the after life and that’s why she looks like that, that fairy creature is supposed to represent her soul. I’m huge fan of hers, she’s very creative with her stuff.(She also directs all of her videos) All of her albums tell a story and are connected. This album is the final chapter of the trilogy since the main character “Crybaby” (which is also the name of her first album) died and it’s stuck in the “spiritual world”. Also she does music videos for all her songs plus she put out a whole ass movie for her second album called “K-12”.

It’s really hard to come in randomly on a Melanie Martinez song/music video. All of her art connects together, she’s telling a story. It makes the most sense if you start from the beginning with her very first album but I know not everyone has time to do that. If you are going to get more into her music I wouldn’t recommend jumping around from album to album. Choose one album and listen to it all the way through from start to finish. Same with her videos. This song is from her album portals so may be check out her other videos that are apart of this album as well. Just a recommendation so you won’t be confused 😊

Loved your reaction! Would definitely help to start her discography from the beginning, “Crybaby” which is a concept album. She tells a very consistent and interesting story throughout her albums and it would help with understanding what this is all about lol

Need to start at the beginning of the album or the entire trilogy begins with the crybaby album

To sum it down a character named crybaby always wondered about past lifes with her best friend but a few mouths later after freeing herself from society she died and was reincarnated into this fairie like being in the void,going thro portals trying to find who she is and her way back to a place,but she doesnt know that place is yet.

I really don’t understand why you didn’t start from the beginning with Melanie you have to start from the beginning or it’s literally going to make zero sense
