There was a mission in Stronghold where you had to capture a Snake's castle and then defend it from the pig. One of my hunters remained outside the walls fighting alongside the archers and crossbowmen during the whole mission and he was never attacked by enemy units. I counted 11 enemies killed by that hunter, who at the end of the mission just walked away and continued working. Man, I wish so bad I could have given that hunter a manor house in return lol.
Had you see his dog ? On my playtrough he was dodging 7 crossbowman at once, running side to side, while 2 hunters also fighting. Good boy gained me so much time i manage to defend agains the crossbows. He eventualy get hit when he stop
I actually did this once. Had woodcutters in a little outside stone fortress, behind the enemy. And on their way through, they attacked the rat. ... After about 20 hours I still have not won. They will never go up to the lord.

I once attacked the enemy base with : shield, crossbowman, catapult , knight . And suddenly without knowing it these woodcutters start to killing my catapult,shield and my crossbowman this is kinda annoying dude.
@Konservatives Schreckgespenst Leave that sir alone! Indeed, the things he listed sound very reasonable, and half of them I could explain right now without further testing. And regarding a woodcutter-only mission, in SH1 I actually made a mission once where the player had a small army of soldiers, and was to conquer a few small villages defended mostly just by woodcutters and hunters. Was fun, tough and had some puzzles... anyway, the concept definitely works!
And just to add some more to that list: One can create invisible churches and statues haunted by barely visible ghosts, burnable stone walls and towers, invincible wheat fields, snow, teleporting woodcutters and blacksmiths, indestructible walls, invisible barriers, max-height sea, nearly-double-max-height terrain, walkable weapon workshops, ground-based mangonels, wall-bridges passable by knights without requiring any play-time tricks/knowledge from the player, hide invisible archers in forests or open plains, take over control of entire hostile armies and castles, stop time, use rivers as wells, fetch pitch or iron from abandoned invisible mines deep-underground amidst rocks and mountains, and detonate walls with pitch-ditch-based "domino lines". And of course, one can encapsulate incomplete oil pots with time-coordinated stockpile-takeovers to create fine-granulated and irreversible victory-or-failure checkpoints, set up large-scale AI-vs-AI battles in scenarios, create working and accessible custom tower ruins, worker-based mountain assaults, extinction of own population as victory condition, river-jumping engineers and units jumping onto towers from the ground, one-way doors, one-way-unlockable two-way-doors, prisons fully secured against break-outs but not break-ins, monks, dancing bears, stockpiles and breweries *inside* walkable, fully functional taverns, as well as employ wheat-production-triggered rabbit plagues as a rescue against wolf attacks. One could even do all of that and then some more, all inside a single scenario! In fact, that's pretty much what I did. Except for the rabbit plagues and "detonating" walls, those I used slightly differently... PS: This is not made up, I am 100% serious.
Yes, you could have lowered the enemy's morale by buying pointy swords for your assassins but noooooooooooooooo.......................you just HAD to buy rounded weapons....
You forgot one thing, when a blacksmith has a sword/mace and he is going to place it in the armory, he will use it if under attacked. This will change the result?
Never noticed jester does some damage even though I've been playing this game for like 12 years :) Glad that so many people are still interested in this masterpiece.
Btw, just saying, using a slave, or even a passive unit like an engineer, portable shield, catapult or fire ballista could be useful to compare the different civilians' damage output/sec. Also, measuring the hunter's shooting power as well as the fighting power of the hunter's dog would provide valuable additional information I think. Nonetheless, nice video! ;) Especially as you did actually manage to surprise me there! Due to the lack of an attack animation, I really did miss the tanner so far, wow! :o Regarding hunters: Afaik their range is at least on par compared to archers, and their damage is slightly higher. Additionally, their "line of sight" between obstacles like houses etc works better than that of archers as well. The only downside is, they will usually priorize deer, and die from the first arrow.

It's sad Crusader doesn't use the Hunters.... They're my favorite, I once built 100 Hunters hut in a Stronghold campaign mission to kill the enemies and it worked.
i still think the woodcutter should be the highest damage. he's carrying an axe. and maybe the hunter should do more damage than that. maybe use the bow first?
They buffed the spearmen? I distinctly remember a spearman losing to a woodcutter in a fight in earlier versions of SC (as well as the original Stronghold).
It can also be because of the Unofficial Crusader Patch,I know there is a setting that slightly increases their vitality(against arrows), so perhaps it is because of this. Udwin uses it as far as I know(he may be one of the modders behind it even, but I am not sure about that).

Piece of advice: if you wanna get 100% accurate results use Artmoney or Cheat Engine, search for the Spearman's health To help you with the search: use Integer 2 Bytes when searching, and know that a Swordsman's health is 25000 So place a Swordsman first, search 25000 then lower his health, then single out the correct address for his health, then kill him and place a Spearman That way you can accurately define how much damage he gets every time
Lmfao jester actually deals dmg huh... Wait, sometimes I see woodcutter killing some melee units. Must be that they were damaged already. I must share a funny thing. Today i played a mission and i was at a step away from winning so i sent one Euro archer to a bunch of enemy engineers standing still, and it was so satisfying how he was stabbing them one by one xD
Wait a minute.There's one thing that I don't understand here.How come the woodcutter died?I've had 1 woodcutter eliminate 1 spearman so many times when I played against the rat,and he has neutral/none,aka no fear factor lol,so how is that even possible!? Ps:The spearmen were always at full health before starting the fight.I checked.Don't worry about it;)
@@alagado666 But it didn't happen only once.I made a level SPECIFICALLY for this,where I put a woodcutter maze all around rat's base,and his troops had to navigate it,and every time a woodcutter encountered a spearman,he won.And it was always a 1v1,and neither of them were injured.Maybe this was nerfed in the newer versions,so that woodcutters are no longer better than spearmen?

Simple answer:Because he only starts to use his bow when he gets to his post(aka hunter's hut),regardless of there being enemies or game(aka deer)near him within firing range.Capische?Lol
