This week on “Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia,” we are Running It Back on a Chasing Glory podcast classic, but Never-Before-Seen video episode in support of Mental Health Awareness month. Lilian Garcia sits down with Melina Perez who made history as the first women to be a multiple-time champion with both WWE Women’s and Divas titles. Melina gets personal with Lilian about her own insecurities and SHOCKINGLY reveals about being a victim of multiple sexual assaults and going through severe depression. She also opens up about how she struggled with suicidal thoughts and an attempt that went wrong, and how she coped and rose above it all. Melina also speaks about the recent death of Ashley Massaro and what being a part of the Squared Circle Sisters has meant to her. Melina then goes on to speak about what she has been up to since leaving the WWE back in 2011. She gives her opinions of what it’s like to be part of the indy wrestling boom as well as being a mentor in the locker room and gives her thoughts on the current women’s divisions. Lillian I wanted to say thank you for starting this podcast I have been stressed out because I can’t be around my friends and I’ve also been having a lot of anxiety lately my mom passed away 18 years ago from cancer for a while I thought I was to blame I felt like I could’ve stopped her from smoking but I realized over the years that you cannot stop anyone they have to learn to stop themselves I wish she was still here every day and your podcast has helped me start to get past bad things in my life I love you so much you are a wonderful person thank you so much for doing what you do and thank you so much for making the podcast I love you always❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Melina was my all time favorite growing up. First match I ever watched with her was the Raw after Vengeance 2007, when she dropped the title to Candice Michelle. She had a match with Maria. She was brutal & I LOVED it. I watched her from then until she left in 2011. I was sad to see her go. She’s definitely deserving of a HoF spot. I hope to see her last longer in another Royal Rumble match. She’s amazing! ❤

My first match I watched with her was her tag match at wrestlemania with Beth vs Maria and Ashley. After that I RU-vid searched divas matches and watched her return match when she teamed with Candice and Mickie vs Beth Jillian and Katie. Melina made me fall in love with professional wrestling, as a kid I would literally turn my tv on Monday night raw every week just hoping to see her wrestle. Truly an underrated wrestler more than deserving to be in the HOF

I love these interviews because they give that real insight into these awesome folks. As a fan, you do get a wrong perspective through the dirt sheets and and interviews of others giving negative stories or points of view. Then, like with this interview with Melina, you get to see a whole different perspective and insight into this beautiful and fantastic person. I love being able to go back and rewatch these, as well. Melina has brought so much to professional wrestling and the indies. And she is such a deep, thoughtful, amazing, and beautiful person. Melina has always been one of my most favorite female wrestlers, and she really has been apart of the evolution of the sport. This interview lent huge depth to her life and real personality. I showed this interview to my daughters, to show them that it is okay to go through the ups and downs of life. It is okay to have emotion, to cry, and to laugh and have joy. Thank you so much for these interviews, and thanks to the folks that agree to be interviewed. 😊😊

I didn’t even know Melina suffered from depression and overcame that situation outside of wrestling. I got so much tons of respect for Melina because of her managing MNM, sensational leg splits on top of the ring apron, and her winning the Women’s and Diva’s championships totally impressed me as a WWE fan.

Ive been a Melina fan since MNM I miss her in WWE it’s sad they let her go she had sooo much potential in my eyes some may disagree…. But she’s a role model to me this interview breaks my heart of how she attempted suicide 💔😢 I just wanna give her a big hug and say think you to her because I do battled with depression over the death of my mom her strength to beat depression and fight gave me the strength to wanna fight too Yes some days are tougher than others but atleast now I know I have purpose in life and it was all because she was strong and she showed me that I can be strong and over come it & my mom I feel was with me and stopping me from thinking like that. Thank you to Melina for showing me I can beat depression I ❤️ You!

Melina was my hero growing up. I still remember how heartbroken I was when Michael Cole announced her torn acl and her having vacated the title and she’d be gone for awhile. I couldn’t even imagine her not returning at all, let alone suicide. that would have destroyed me as a kid, when I say she was my hero I mean this woman inspired me so damn much when I lived in a world where I felt all alone. I really hope she now sees the everlasting effect she had on so many people. She’s a damn legend.

@@ganjabarb Amen I hope she sees it too when I found out she attempted suicide as a person with a heart and being a fan of hers who looked up to her and idolized her still do today it really broke my heart when I heard that news through this video I lost it and my heart broke for her Hopefully she’s better today I mean she seems to be in a better place mentally hopefully she stays in thet place I know people ont he interview are trying to chip away at her again every so often I just hope they don’t get to her Again and what I say to those people is all I can do is pray for god to have mercy on them one day when they die because they have no heart for a human being

Lilian is so kind and lovely! Melina is so deserving of more. Both should be Hall of Fame. Both so lovely. If you think Melina is fake, Lilian wouldn’t be giving her this time. Real doesn’t acknowledge fake. So if Melina is fake, so is Lilian. Give them grace. Show them love. Melina is iconic.

Lillian you need to be a therapist Point Blank PERIOD. We love you both and Melina thank you for inspiring little boys and girls all over the world. I remember being a little kid going to wrestling shows. My family didn't have a lot money so we'd always be sitting in the nosebleed section LOL. We'd wait by the trucks after the show to get a glimpse of wrestlers walking to their cars hoping to get a pic or autograph. These interviews are like getting that backstage pass a lot of us wanted. But when you’ve been constantly written about like you’re the worst when you’re not, people actually giving you a chance has to be emotional. There’s many of greats who praise her despite the gossip column. She was a great heel. She played the part. She doesn’t have to put herself out there in this way. She isn’t getting acknowledged by WWE. It’s like her time was deleted. No matter how much she did. She did a lot. Lillian claiming she was sweet. She didn’t have to give her the interview. It’s judgement based on what you’ve read. She’s a great.

I love melina, shes very great and talented, and always think GOD is with you and many people loves you and i think stay away in the negative thinking just always surroud with great people. and always think your a better person, beautiful inside and out. Dont give up and every people has a problem, but again always put GOD to you. And always open talk to your better friends especially your old friends. Life is wonderful and life is too short.

I loved the conversation about not accepting compliments because of your own self-doubt, but it having an adverse affect on the person giving the compliment. I'm an artist. You always hear that artists are their own worst critics. That's very true, for me anyway. But, I was told by a fellow artist is that I need to accept compliments even if I think my art isn't that great. If I told someone that liked my art that it wasn't good, I was unintentionally telling that person they have bad taste. I never thought of it from that perspective.
