The Grammy Award-winning software Melodyne uses several algorithms to detect the notes in audio tracks. The melodic algorithm for everything with a linear melody, the polyphonic algorithm for guitar, piano and so on, and the percussive algorithm is concerned above all with timing. what would it be for a string quartet and a solo violin without double bills? Tks

The solo violin would be ‘Melodic’, of course. For the string quartet, if all parts are on one stereo track only (i.e. no multi-tracks), the ‘Polyphonic Sustain’ algorithm should be suitable. If you only want to edit the timing, then the ‘Universal’ algorithm will also work fine. Hope this helps.

Why my Assistant has Polyphonic decay and Polyphonic sustain modes? When I am selecting it notes becomes grey and "locked". Thank you!

Did they improve drum transient tracking to a usable level? MY biggest gripe was percussive transients always missing the mark so drum replacement was impossible. Maybe this just isn't a good software for that sort of detection?

Honestly it can never detect the instruments algorithm at all when I use it it's frustrating anyone got any tips

Make sure you use a clean and dry recording, if possible, with no reverb or room ambience and no mic bleed from the other instruments. Also, if you know what kind of algorithm you’ll need for your file(s), you can define a default algorithm that Melodyne will use then.

Depends on the solo. Is it melodic only with no overlapping notes? Do you play chords? Do you need to tweak pitches or timing? In most cases, the Polyphonic Decay algorithm should work fine.
