That the caller of the year, he just said what millions of yankees fan would love to have the chance, great call, priceless. Mike from new jersey call every day
Mike was spot on, he just didn’t articulate his facts straight. If it’s not a good roster the blame falls on Cashman with his bone head trades, >Frank Montas, trading Harrison Hader for Jordan Montgomery, Josh Donaldson, Joey Gallo.Jameson Tailon etc.
Kay won't say, "Cashman's career has been a colossal failure. He has had an open checkbook for three decades, and he has done nothing since he got total control of the front office." Kay has to say that, explicitly.
This is such a dumb statement and the fact it gets so many upvotes proves how toxic and bat shit delusional the Yankee fanbase is. Sorry your mantra is Championship or bust, but Cashman is literally a top 5 executive of all time. Yall never have a losing season and still have a top 10 Farm system after literally going for it almost every single year. What a cry baby fan base. You wanna say he isnt good at going all in. Sure. BUt saying his career is a faulure is just straight up lunacy. I hope you guys Get fucking Brody van Wagenen , Jared Porter, Billy Eppler as your GM. Yall dont know what bad GMS are.
So last week Kay got offended by a caller using the word goddamn but he can call a caller a jerk off. Makes total sense. And yeah Gary Cohen will always be better than this 🤡
Mike Kay and company don’t believe in accountability for Boone six years and counting without championship and Cashman bad trades, trading Jordon Montgomery for Harrison Bader damage good , Mike Montas, Joey Gallo, Josh Donaldson. Caller wasn’t able to articulate this facts to Mike Kay . Boone and Cashman 14 years and counting without championship. need to be 🔥. Clean house with new management
George Steinbrenner ran the Yankees for years like a fan. If you didn't perform, you were fired. If you can't hit or pitch, you're traded. Now that he's gone, the fans have to carry that torch. The Yankees are where they are because of poor roster construction, which Micheal agreed to, and poor leadership. Boone and Cashman should have been fired years ago and maybe we would have a realistic chance for a championship.
@@ExtremeDailyDriversGreat considering he was suspended and the baseball people like Stick and Watson were actually able to help change the philosophy of the organization and build the foundation that led to the Dynasty.
@@Ryan6OC You left out the stability and leadership Buck Showalter brought to the team before the strike. Listen, Steinbrenner didn't do it alone, but he was always the catalyst for greatness. And after he was reinstated, he continued to push for excellence. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, but the bottom line is people were held responsible. That's not what is happening now.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers He had his great qualities, like his passion and his willingness to spend more than anyone else. He also had is bad ones, like meddling too much in the baseball decisions and thus trading away young players for old vets that didn’t work out. They needed a philosophy change come the mid 90s and thank god it happened. Then he was still willing to do what it took money wise to put the best team out there, that’s what he should be remembered for. A never-ending desire to be the best at all costs.
Mike from NJ is right, It’s a Yankees Soft culture that trickles down from Hal Steinbrenne to manager in their players. If Mr. Softy ( Boone ) isn’t firm or puts pressure on the players with poor performances or lack of hustle, the end result is what the Yankees are experiencing right now. Bottomline Mike Kay, Boone needs to fire 🔥 six years and counting without a championship. That’s what George Steinbrenner would’ve done five years ago. If it’s not a good roster the blame falls on Cashman with his bone head trades, >Frank Montas, trading Harrison Hader for Jordan Montgomery, Josh Donaldson, Joey Gallo.Jameson Tailon etc. If I perform poorly on my job. my boss gets on my case and I would get a verbal warning, this actions apply to most jobs in corporate America,
i think it's important to note the middle ground here. there's the "should get fired but he won't" stance. if michael kay could at least admit that firing cashman is a *consideration* that's worth thinking about, he'd seem more open-minded. cashman hasn't win a ring in 15 years with the highest overall payroll in that time, that's not ok
I’ve always said Kay acts like a sometimes tough guy and whines on the radio but plays the fool when guys like Paulie and Coney bust his chops on tv. It’s like two different people.
I think Michael is always honest about the Yankees. If they lose in the playoffs, tune in the next day; you'll hear nothing but hardcore criticism all day
NYC radio is completely unlistenable. I used to have WFAN on all day without touching the dial when boomer and carton, joe and evan, mike francesca, and steve sommers were the lineup.. it was perfect.. but michael is absolutely 100% spot on with his take regarding the state of new york sports radio right now.. and we all know who he's referencing.. its WFAN.. under spike eskin, they've revamped the lineup and platform to be an constant onslaught of obnoxious brand of mediocre talent, ridiculous hot takes, screaming complaining, demanding people to be fired, with zero sense of reason, completely ungrounded, and crude language.. even going as far as to insult and hang up on celebrity guest appearances.. then wonder why no one ever does spots on that radio station show anymore.. new york sports radio in general is in a desperate state at the moment; i don't even listen to sports radio anymore because I can't stand ESPN and what they stand for, WFAN is a pathetic shell of its former self, and outside of that there is nothing worth putting on the radio aside from 104.3.. there needs to be a revamp of every radio stations lineups aside from Boomer and Gio.. thats my take.
Spike eskin wanted to Sabatoge wfan he was and is a disaster how did he get job lazy ahole now they call hurley brand manager they need a real program director u are 110pct right
Shame of Mr Kay for berating a caller. Not professional. If your a fervent fan you are entitled to emotional outburst. I recommend you apologize to the caller if not a temporary suspension is in order.
I think Kay does a good job, that's not an easy job to do, the Yankees have the most eyes on them and he does this everyday. The Yankees are a good team, but not a great team, they can add and become great.
Funny how the caller got to Kay but this is only a good phone call if that was his aim in the first place. If he called to criticize Kay for not ripping the Yankees, he failed. If he called to piss off Kay, he succeeded. But he stammered a lot, like, a lot. Maybe the Yankees need Carlos Rondone to pitch better. 😂
I like Michael Kay, he is a passionate man but seriously, it just doesn't work with him holding 2 jobs as the Yankees play by play announcer and a Sports Radio Host. He just refuses to wear both hats because of his precious announcer role. He just will not allow a logical caller to be right when it comes to criticism of the Yankees. Don't host a sports radio show if you can't allow callers to speak their mind and worst of all, you can't agree with them because of your announcer job. You just can't hold both jobs because you can't be a straight up Sports Radio Host because your main job is too important.
Listening back this is the same guy who set Don off on the Joey Gallo rant a few years back. He'll probably be back in 2026 to set Peter off to complete the trifecta
That’s what I was just thinking. I remember listening to this live and I do not remember that so I’m assuming they took it out. How did he not get in trouble for that lol
Hey Michael do you still think Steve Cohen has given up on the Mets and their fans or have you forgotten your rant at the beginning of the season? Meanwhile you treat Cashman and Saint Boone with kid gloves.
I think the caller came at him the wrong way, I'd love to call and simply ask him this, Michael sir, you say the days of hard nosed managers like Girardi etc... are over, well ok, maybe Boone isn't the problem, but this is the longest the team has ever went in it's history without at least winning a division title, all while spending the most ( or close) every year, perhaps the game has passed Brian Cashman by, he's clearly running things, and many GM's who spend far less than him are succeeding far better, i think the chsnge is needed at the GM position
@@snerdtergusonhe hasn’t won a chip whilst spending most money of any team last 15 years. Yankees have the same amount of Al East titles as orioles since 2014. You guys holding onto playoff appearances in which we haven’t been CLOSE if you open your eyes and stop watching with your heart. Cashman needs to go and has needed to go for YEARS!
As an American we are ridiculously entitled. Sports fans can either stop watching the games or root for another team if they are that mad. Instead they would rather belittle radio hosts for not saying exactly what they want them to say. Lolol
Sorry Mike. You gave in to your emotions. You were holding the line admirably. But you caved and hung up so you could name call after the call ended. Caller Mike is obnoxious and wrong about you but he won that call.
They are contending for first place. My team in in last place, and will likely be sellers at the deadline. This is why I hate yankee fans, even when they are good, they act like they are in last place even losing the world series in 7 it as bad as going 0-162. Stop being spoiled.
Considering Kay works for the team, he cannot possibly be honest as a radio host. If he truly respected talk radio, he would give up this show or quit the Yankee job. Then we would get some honesty out of him.
Anyone who thinks Kay never criticizes the organization is signaling one of two things. Either they don’t actually listen to the show, or they hear him give an opinion and mechanically make a bunch of assumptions about other things he believes. This usually plays out in conversations around Cashman. Thinking he should be fired is a defensible take. Thinking he shouldn’t be fired is also a defensible take. But people hear Kay say I don’t think Cashman should be fired, and instead of actually dissecting and refuting his arguments, such as there is nobody better available to replace him with, they assume he’s just being Yankee boy because he’s the broadcaster and won’t criticize the organization. It’s lazy analysis by fans and it’s maddening. There are legitimate points to be made against Cashman, but instead making ad hominem arguments against Kay just makes you sound stupid.
Unfortunately the fan base has taken a turn for the dumber over the last couple decades. We have people who say, after the team was in the ALCS, that Cashman did a terrible job building the roster and Boone did a terrible job managing. But these two things can't be true at the same time AND result in the team going to the ALCS. If Boone did a bad job managing, then Cashman built a Hell of a roster to overcome bad managing. If Cashman did a terrible job building the roster, then Boone did a Hell of a good job managing to overcome the bad roster.
@@rancidcrawfish the drought that we’re currently in is almost as long though. What makes this different from the 80s? It’s still just as frustrating having a disappointing team that can never seem to get it together. If you want to act like the managing is great and Cashman is great, then why the fuck are we still a shitty team?
I don't think he did. He's not a man to say anything but what he thinks, and the way he said the word tells you just waht he thinks of podcasts. The message is consistent in some of the other shit he said, like "I gave him the five minutes he never thought he'd get." Kay thinks he's a gatekeeper to the palace of New York media heaven. The arrogance is a fucking turn-off. He's worse than the Francesa monster he has always envied and despised.
