These are really great,I love nothing better than seeing someone truly be inventive and using every bit of the material to the max ,the way you even recycled the laser silver was a nice touch. I was just wondering if you've tried making any jewellery with technique?? You could use a scalpel when the tiles were still warm to cut them into more irregular shapes and then put back in the oven to seal the edges smooth again.Instead of using a fine Dremmel or jewellery drill you could just push a darning needle wherever you wanted the holes to be for earing wires etc Where I live in Brighton UK in a local shop they are selling VERY similar polymer earings which clearly have been polymer cast for around 25pounds,\ .I've subbed your channel ,not seen you before and this is great.BTW have you tried the same tech with the empty cd cases? it really should work .and if you warm the plastic it should cut with a heavy duty craft knife easily.(sorry I was a plastics geek at uni) lol. when I was a girl we used to shrink potato crisp ( do you guys say chips?) wrappers and they would shrink perfectly and fuse and we'd make mini brooches out of them, good ol'1970's :) LOL

I am really really new at this, but you had mentioned trying glitter. This looks absolutely awesome. I went on a mosaic workshop this afternoon and we used bits of broken china that she'd cut up. That looked like a really horrible job to do and they were quite sharp on the edges. She said she usually uses glass which is easier to cut apparently. The mosaic part was really fun to do but I didn't relish breaking up all that china! The technique you've just shared is great on all points. I've got a load of old CDs that I no longer use and wondered what to do with them - most CD recycling projects are pretty naff. These look absolutely beautiful! I love how you can also use the film stuck on the duck tape when you are prepping the discs. Nothing wasted! If you were to score the lines rather than drawing them with a Sharpie, and then put the CD over something hard like a metal rod or piece of dowel, and then press down, would they fracture along the score line? This is how they cut tiles and glass. It might save one's hands using the scissors method. I was thinking you could add bits of hot foil, or tiny sequins, or mica powder if glitter doesn't work. Also, if the tiles come out fairly translucent, you could always prep your surface with foil before sticking them down and they'd really glow! Another thing to sandwich between them that might work well as it's heat activated, is angelina fibre or fantasy film. You could cut bigger pieces and make awesome jewellery from them too. There's so much potential here! Thank you for sharing a totally brilliant video. You've really sparked off some ideas here!

I was also thinking of scoring the CD instead. I'll try and break like stain glass. Hope it works, if not I'll try a paper cutter.

Many years ago (10?) I bought one of the stacks of 50 CDs and have about 40 of them left. Now I have another trick to try. (Peeling the holographic film off to use didn't work the way I tried it before but using duct tape...! I can work with that too.) I think using a hand drill - jewelry type - would work to drill holes to use them as tile beads. I do have to try, don't I? This was a cool idea!

flippin' amazeballs. Lurve 'em. It is also a great security measure. We always put any CD's with personal information (or hard drives for that matter) in a metal box in our fire to destroy the data. I don't think even the FBI could get the data from these. Is there any shrinkage? How are your scissors? Also, I think Ranger do a glitter that is glass like it used to be in the old days. Certainly there's one of the distress line that is made from different stuff than usual. No idea if it would still give bubbles but you could try it if you are desperate for glitter.

Awesome idea!!! I kind of like the triangle shape also. I guess you can do any shapes.

These are awesome! I weave silver and copper for jewelry and amm always looking for interesting cabochons...I'm going to give these a try! I wonder how hard it would be to create ovals or circles.

Some have suggested heating the CD, it makes them easier to cut. I'm wondering if painting the CD first (swatches of color) and let it dry then cut up th CD and cover with clear tiles. Maybe use a dot of glue to hold in place. Might be easier.

Can't wait to try this. Did you notice any fumes or smoke coming from the oven?? My Hubby is always over worried about this. I have a craft oven but don't know if it will get hot enough. I wonder if you could use little pieces of foil between the tiles?? I think the possibilities for using these is endless. Great tutorial....TFS.....Chris

+Christine Bell No, I didnt notice any smoke or fumes but I would imagine if you left them in too long it might produce smoke. I think your craft oven may work...give it a try. You could prob use foil in between the tiles, if you just place the foil between the tiles and melt them, it should work as long as your foil is a bit smaller than the tiles so the outside edge of the tiles can melt onto one another around the foil. :) Let me know how it goes!

Love this idea. But I couldn't see what the writing was in the bottom sometimes. White writing on white background didn't show up well on my phone. :( Gonna try this anyway. Thanks !!

Place a box on it's side, opening facing you, at the far side then, as you cut & they flip, they'll go into the box.
