This is stupid. To make jewellery... U took a .9999 pure gold ... Next time buy scrap gold and make 10k gold. 24k gold should never be melted.

Gold coins are one of the cheapest ways to buy pure gold close to spot price.

@Norbert Reread my post. I never said coins were the cheapest. One oz Canadian maple coins go for 75 over spot. One oz Canadian bars go for 75 over spot. Bars are generally cheaper but they are in the same ballpark. If you buy on Craigslist, both can be had for spot.

@Norbert The huge benefit of coins is that they are much easier to verify with primitive tools. You can literally flip a coin and listen to the sound to prove that it is real.

I can only think of one reason why you’d want to alter gold coins (especially Canadian maple leafs). Judging by the background and equipment, I think I’m right.

@@tunnelsnake627 I thought they might of been stolen. Why else would you devalue gold coins by melting them?? I’m thinking I could be wrong though. Maybe they just wanted to melt 6800$ worth of gold. Honestly, who knows??
