Just a quick video to show you how I get my cappings wax out of the spinner, into the melter, and melted down to be sold or turned into something else. Follow me on instagram @devan.beekeeper
I still come back and review Devan's videos from time to time. By far the best beekeeping vids on RU-vid. Great channel. Very digestible. Good luck in Florida
I really appreciate your calm, clear style of explaining things. I don't plan on ever keeping bees so I'm not likely to use this info but I still enjoyed learning about it!
i have been gathering information from many sources before launching my own operation and your videos are the most comprehensive. So... Thank you for keeping it simple!
Thank you, Precious Child! Your generous heart for doing these videos has saved me and my bees. I am three years in and have two hives now after a disasterous start. I have two mentors (kinda) and have read and read and read, but none explain and show the depth of knowledge, confidence and expertise that you do, in such complete terms. My Nanna use to say, 'Opinions are like A-holes, everyone has one. You keep doing you....!' You are kind, thorough, clear and so very generous to take your time for the health and betterment of bees and their keepers. THANK YOU! ❤️💕
Well I rarely write reviews or comments on any video, but yours are great. You sir know how to explain thing right to the point without any meaningless fill ups just to make a video. I’m a new beekeeper from Lebanon (middle East) and I’m certainly learning too much from your experience and thoughts. Thank you for your time and keep up the GREAT work. P.S.: your channel is the only one that I allowed getting notifications from. Regards, Architect Marwan Kabalan
I dunno about all the people giving you smack, but as a new beekeeper, your videos are a wealth of information. They are gold. Thanks. Peace from Perth, West Australia.
Hi Hun, thank you for this enjoyable and informative video. I love it that you took the time to show the diagram of how the melter works instead of just telling us and leaving it to our imaginations! As far as the people who try to bring you or each other down, just ignore them cuz there's too many people who love the drama and are miserable themselves, so everybody must be in their eyes! Dont even give them the satisfaction of knowing if they get to you! Have a great day and I look forward to seeing more videos!
Thank you love the info .. beautiful finish on those uncapped frames .. my business is very small but love seeing the expansion possible such as yours. Keep sharing please ignore the ignorant!
As a small scale beekeeper, I melt my dirty wax in a solar heater before adding it to the pot. The clean wax goes in a pot over water. I melt the wax on the stove. I let it solidify and scrape the bottom of the cake to remove the slumgum. I put the wax cake back in the pot to melt again over clean water and by the third melting, I have a good clean cake. I melt in December so the wax will solidify rapidly on my back porch. This time I harvested a 2.4 lb. cake of wax.
Thank you so much for the videos, they take a lot of your time and effort to make. They are greatly appreciated! You are a larger operation than we hobby beekeepers are but there is always helpful take away for the hobbyist. Last year I started with three nuc’s and made it through the winter with five colonies. This spring I am up to ten and Lord willing hope to go into winter with ten to twelve hives. I may grow to a sideliner by the time I retire in a few years.
Judgeing from the size of your operation, your confidence and obvious success You have had a good teacher. I'm adding bees to my life just at the hobby level but I want my three or four hives to have a beekeeper, not just a bee haver. My five acre former sheep pasture is now all food for pollinators. in the four sections surrounding my farm are almost forty acres of trees .Lots of willow, linden and locust. An adventure awaits. I will be learning from a couple local beekeepers and RU-vid. Thanks
I appreciate your expertise! Thank you so much for the information you provide. Some people are always negative and I hope you keep the videos coming. I know it takes alot of work to do videos and I am truly thankful for your efforts.
Yeah, the internet and comments... Not always a good match. But here is a nice one: This is my second comment on a youtube channel and you are the only channel I ever subscribed too. I read a lot about bee keeping (I eventually want to become a beekeeper), but your video's help me to put things together. Thank you very much Devan, really, thank you and I look forward to more video's. Greetings from Denmark
Greeting's from Idaho. Great comment! I have had beekeepers put bees on my property to pollinate my fruit trees and all of my neighbor's orchards, but I am in training with a commercial beekeeper so I can be successful in hive management and personal honey production. This has quickly become my favorite channel. I just forwarded it to my mentor who's on his way back from California after checking his hives at the almond orchards. This is so exciting! I've never seen the common sense about super organization, but Devan's method makes sense to my way of thinking. Especially with the honey flavors from early spring and later season's nectar. I love this channel!
Great Vid. Thanks for sharing your views and keep it up. A wise man once said, "You can please some of the people all the time but you can't please all the people all the time." Just keep Beekeeping and sharing your processes. You have more of a following that is learning from your time and patience than the people that will never be happy no matter what you post.
Hello Devan,, your doing a great job. please keep it up, i have just started back up this year after 31 years, so my background is package bees every year,, now i really have a lot of details to learn to get to a self sufficient operation,,and i catch many details of great value from your blogs,,, thanks.
Deva,I really love your videos,I learn a lot from them.To bed that I didn’t know about your videos last year when I started with my bees. Thank you very much and Good LORD Bless you and keep you. I learn a lot from you.
Devan, I think you do wonderful videos and you have a very nice demeanor in presenting them. I have also discovered that even an old fart like me can learn from a young new perspective. Being from Montana, the timeline and methods you use are very similar in regard to our weather. I normally don't say much on these blogs but wanted to thank you for all the work that you put into these videos. Between you and Paul @ UoG I have changed a lot of my ways of beekeeping. Please, keep up the great work!
Great videos, I'm just getting into the beekeeping business, I have learned so much from you videos, you explain things simple and straight to the point, I have seen so many different channels from other beekeepers and I was confused and a certain point even frustrated, after I start looking at yours I felt a lot better and I can easily understand bees now, appreciated Devan. Howdy from Texas !
You are doing a great job showing us all the different steps involved. Even though you are on a much larger scale it's still helpful to me. Something I'm curious about is how do you store all your extracted frames till it's time to put them back on in the Spring? Keeping pests from them? Could you show us? Thank you for your hard work and level head.
If you take 2 peace’s of C channel hanging them up in your shed or honey house you can slide your frames in one at a time works great . Holds them up out of the way safe and sound because of the open space and light God Bless
you all prolly dont care but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot my account password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Stephen Antonio i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Your videos were some of the best. You have such a gentle mannerism and speech. To bad you don't do this anymore. It seems some people (few) get a kick out of getting under other peoples skins. I think it make them feel more powerful or important. They are quite shallow people and over the years I ignore them and I do what I want. Wish you would do a few more.
Devan - I find your videos practical, to the point and very useful. Please do not take any notice of the negative posters. (Some people would gripe about being in heaven. You are right not to waste time on them). I am learning a lot from your videos. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing Deevan! This video appeared in my search tonight and I liked it so much I subscribed for more content! Cheers - a beekeeper from Alberta, Canada
Mate you should get active and forget the negative people. I'm from Australia and just starting out and your videos are some of the best. Your video's are BY FAR the least preachy on you tube. BY FAR!!! Keep at it :-)
Wow, what a great video. I thoroughly appreciate the explanation (pros & cons of doing things certain ways or how things work. Keep up the great work on the videos, I know they take time to do.
Great video Devan, yours and UoG Bee Research videos are best beekeeping videos on RU-vid. Maxant should send you a cheque for explaining how their melter works.
You are awesome. I happened across your channel and am binge watching! There are several ways to do the same thing, and you can't change the negative ninnies. Please don't let it get to you.
Dude this is kinda cool. I started with a dude with like a pot on an open flame, worked my way up to the guy with the big boiling tank and now I'm here. I wonder what crazy device the next beeswax dude I get recommended has in store!
Devin with your score 712 thumbs up and only 5 down,You should be in hog heaven.I allways enjoy listening to you,Some of it I have listened to many times.I only have like 12 hives ,going to try to expand next spring and plan to incorporate a lot of what you have talked about.
Thank you for sharing. Keep the knowledge coming !! I'd like to see /hear your method for ventilation and wrapping your hives for outdoor winter storage here in Ontario. Frame storage overwinter as well ! 1st yr. beekeep here!
What happens if you create a custom honeycomb mold and use bee's wax to artificially create completely built empty frames? Would it make bees waste less time building them and using this time to make more honey, or wouldn't make a difference?
Hey Devon, how do you clean your wax melter once you’ve finished the melting process. Your video as always has been very useful. You are one of the first and favourite beekeepers I subscribed two when I started beekeeping 4 1/2 years ago. Thanks for sharing. Shayne
Im not sure why you stopped these videos. Your so awesome! Im looking at growing this year and would love to hear your thoughts on equipment. Im looking at the single frame cutter over the spinner. Seems easy for a one guy operation. Looking at 200 to start and want to grow to 500. I think that will be good for my one man operation. Im getting to be an old fart so want to keep it fun.
Thanks Devan. You share some great videos and for what it's worth, we are going single deeps also, where many are going dbls and even triples. I feel the same about the comments. On our channel, and FB, I just share how we're doing it here in N. WI. USA
Thanks for the videos! This is my first year and you’re one of my best guys to watch and learn from. I haven’t seen any new ones lately? Have you slowed down or stopped making them? I appreciate the lesson and points of view.
I am not a bee keeper and I don't feel preached at. I feel educated on a subject that is part of my everyday life and yet so unseen like where the milk comes from.
I am just starting. Have 2 hives set up for next season. Thank youso much for your info. Wish I could get you down to NC for personal tutoring! Don't let the liberals shut you out! Keep voicing your opinions!
