@@tashvadj4914 amen 🙏, brother. It’s definitely up there by any objective measure. I’m extremely sparing w/ my superlatives though, in any realm… but especially this one.
I agree, but a host on NPR interviewing Bernard Purdie called this a "throwaway" song. I'm shocked that she can't hear the beauty and atmosphere in this song. She rightly praised the drumming, but to call the song "throwaway" is an act of violence against good taste. The melody and the smooth soaring voice, the chord changes, the piano and early '70s electric guitar all make this great. The bittersweet melancholy of the chords and melody are captivating. The chord change for "the moon was" and the melody over that chord are hauntingly beautiful. I'm going to look up the songwriter Herb Rooney based soley on this great song.
Some people consider sampling was wrong to do because of the life work that the artist put originally i agree but if it wasn't for the sampling these records in hip hop they would be lost in the shuffle fading into obscurity
I heard this song in a radio show , actually a live on a radio with tim Westwood 1997 , Wu Tang Clan members were there doing their freestyle and ODB ( rip) began to sing the song on the sample . It took me a hard time to check the song then, but i finally found it.🙂
