If you're not live then how would the person who bought the gift memberships know who received them? Or receive a thank you message from the recipients? There would be no point to buy them in the first place and would result in a bad user experience if someone did buy them. You can always give your friends and family mod if you just want them to have a different color name. Or you know they could buy a membership and support you if they want to. If you can give it to everyone then it really means nothing at that point.

There's nothing wrong with people watching your streams being able to gift memberships to other people watching your streams. Why you would want to discourage people from buying others memberships just baffles me, since it puts money in your pocket! You can always take the money earned from members buying other subs gifted memberships and reinvest them in the chsnnel by gifting memberships yourself. I'm NOT saying that it wouldn't be great if RU-vid allowed creators to gift a certain number of memberships per month for free - I'm not saying that at all!! But I certainly don't understand why you would have a problem with your members giving memberships to oyher subs! Could you please explain that to me? I'm subbed to a number of channels (Mostly LawTubers) where we have wonderful, generous angels who gift memberships on a regular basis. As much as I'd love to support these channels myself, I have other financial obligations that take precedence; personally I support a bunch of otherwise homeless kitties, abandoned by their heartless (imo) previous owners. Others are on fixed incomes, or work at jobs that don't leave enough left over after living expenses are paid out. Some of these angels gift out 10 to 50 - or more! - memberships per live stream!! These folks are universally loved by creators and other subs alike! They regularly gift more memberships per month, each, than you're even suggesting would be reasonable for RU-vid to allow you to give free. Why on earth would you ever want to discourage that?!?!

@@theladyinblack3055 the point that I was trying to make, was that if we, as creators, were able to gift a free membership for a month to people, once that month was up, perhaps they would want to purchase the membership. I don't see how we, as creators, should have to pay RU-vid for the privilege of gifting a membership to our own channel, when we are the ones putting the work and effort in. It's not about discouraging others from buying memberships for people, quite the opposite!!!!!! Bring it on!

You already have that on your community page. Community posts are really effective and serve a notification to your members' phone.

I mean they already have Member only community posts. So as long as Member is paying attention to community posts they should see it.

agreed, gifting to a specific user would be nice BUT it would also be nice if brand accounts could get gifted memberships as well as gift memberships out.

SJWs who come into streams to virtue signal, wouldn't want a gift, because it would look like they are supporting that channel, rather than opposing it. and would be cancelled by their own community. I believe this was happening during the Hogwarts Legacy boycott. Protestors were being gifted subs (on Twitch), forcing them offline, lest they be seen with the mark of supporting some VTuber who played the game.

The spam stuff is on all social media platform. Scammers/Spammers are everywhere But youtube needs to do more to combat this

I don't have Gifted Memberships for my Channel and can't opt in with my branded account either, so you're not alone.

@@EZLO21 My channel is branded but I offer gifted membership for my channel (I filled the request form but seems that might not be needed in order to get it activated for ones channel any longer)

@@MrsCubsDen I filled one out too, and I can't receive them from other channels and I don't have the ability to give them yet that I know of.

@@EZLO21 It took about a month or so after I filled the form to see the gift Membership feature on my channel. I am in the same boat - cannot get one because of my branded account however I can buy Membership for others for channels I am a member of.

@@EZLO21 Only channel members can see the gifted membership option and hence buy. Channel members and channel owners who have the feature can gift Membership for others.
