Hey everyone! This is a sick mathematical principle that allows you to divine any card taken out of a shuffled deck! It takes some practice to do quickly, but it is definitely worth trying out. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe!

You could also force them to pick a number card by saying, “Don’t pick a face card because that would be too obvious”
@MartinTedder
@MartinTedder 3 года назад
Usually magicians would say "don't pick the ace of spades; too obvious"....and what does our boi here pick?
@MinecraftMaker
@MinecraftMaker 3 года назад
Or do the opposite and say that face cards are too easy - and suggest they pick something harder. Spectators generally want you to work for it, and spot cards are easy to confuse, so it makes logical sense that they would be harder to memorize.

I understand the entire methode but you said that the spectator thinks about a number card. But in the video they pull a random card out of the deck? Soo... Where is the thinking part of this Trick? Bcs they chosen card is a random pull, that means we can't Manipulate them with Sentences like "Think about a number" Or smth
@AMillionCardTricks
@AMillionCardTricks 3 года назад
Haha i understand your question. I did pull a card out at random, and it just so happened to be a number card by luck! But I only did that because i didn’t have a real spectator. So yes in real life, they would first think of the number card and pull that card out of the deck.

You could make this an "any card" trick like this: If they really make a free choice and your sum ends up zero (indiciating a 10 or face card), then remember the bottom card as a key card, cut the cards (or have them do it) and bury their card. As you "hunt" for their card (you actually spot it quickly) then announce, it's a face card or "I think you picked a high number" then reveal their card.
@AMillionCardTricks
@AMillionCardTricks 3 года назад
Love it, thank you for this idea. The only reason why I wouldn’t do that is because to the spectators, cutting the cards is the same thing as shuffling. So why would i be memorizing the exact order of the cards, just to shuffle them again? Obviously we magicians know that cutting a deck doesn’t shuffle it, but spectators might see it that way, and be confused.
@jones1618
@jones1618 3 года назад
@@AMillionCardTricks Good point. Maybe do a hidden cut where you separate halves at a point the spectator chooses then misdirect to swap the halves.
@BobSandelman
@BobSandelman 3 года назад
To make it even more impressive , after I have "memorized" the deck have the spectator place his selected card in the deck while I turn my head, then have him make a few complete cuts so that it will look even more challenging to find his card since the cards will still be in the same order but will start at a different place than it did originally.

Thanks so much! I have been following you for long time and I can say that you are a true Master! this trick for its simplicity and power really impressed me ... since yesterday I started studying it to understand the different possible applications. For example I tried to divide the whole deck into two piles, putting a sign between them, for example a Joker; we construct the sum of one of the two piles so that it gives a total of 10 (therefore equal to zero) the second pile contains the rest of the total and it will be this that will be used to make the spectator choose the card; in this way we will have to count only about twenty cards to know which card the spectator has chosen. While we will go faster (for the pile where we already know the zero quota) in the phase of memorizing the cards. after knowing which card is chosen by the spectator, we will join the two piles and ask the spectator to insert his card at any point in the deck ... at this point we can choose any type of ending we want. To start the performance we show the entire deck of cards, to point out that it is already mixed and with the excuse of removing the Joker we divide the deck into two piles resting there on the table. we will ask the spectator to choose one: if he chooses the one where we already know the total, we will ask him to mix it further and keep it aside because we will use the other pile; vice versa, if he chooses the pile that we must use to make him choose the card, we will ask him to mix it, extract the chosen card and place it on the table; at that point we will be able to start our phase of memorizing the cards with the pile from which the spectator has chosen his card, continue with the other where we already know the total sum and continue as described above. Just one more thing: Who is the creator of this trick? and which is a best book to buy? Thanks a lot again!
@AMillionCardTricks
@AMillionCardTricks 3 года назад
This is a really great idea! I love how you simplified it even further, and it also makes the trick a lot less obvious in terms of the spectator guessing how it’s done. I found this concept of counting cards from a trick called Oracle by Titanas, it is a different trick entirely but it uses the same method.
@harryhowdidhe
@harryhowdidhe 3 года назад
Smart variation. Its even possible to add a 10, J, Q and K to the pile that consists of 2x ace to 9 of different suits. By doing so you have 1 pile of 22 ‘random’ cards. When the result is zero it can only be 10, J, Q or K, which can be seen at a glimpse. PS1 My pile used for counting includes the Ghost Deck ace of spades since it looks like a picture card. PS2 To further simplify the process select within the pile of 22 cards the odd and even cards in CHaSeD order. PS3 How about a stripper card to quickly find (the middle of) the pile you need.

Great trick! Weirdly enough the counting was easy and quick for me when I tried, my downfall is finding the cards in the spread out deck. I end up staring at this random collection of cards causing a horribly awkward silence..."what was I looking for again?" I'm guessing I'm somewhere on the spectrum...
@jones1618
@jones1618 3 года назад
I'd suggest you go through cards facing you and just outjog all the 7s (or whatever) plus a random card of the missing suit. (That also avoids boriingly dealing them out again.) Put the four cards facedown on the table and say "One of these cards is your card" as you flip to show the random card. Wait for the dissapointed laugh and say "But, not this one. Although, your card is a heart like this." Then flip over the other three 7s as you say "Because your card is the 7 of hearts."
@MartinTedder
@MartinTedder 3 года назад
@@jones1618 that would make the extended part of the trick longer and more complicated....
@jones1618
@jones1618 3 года назад
@@MartinTedder It's a neat trick but I find the sequence a little boring: 1) count the cards, 2) pick a card, 3) count the cards to find the card, 3) reveal card. My variation replaces the redundant "count the cards" w/ outjogging and uses that for a more interesting reveal. It's barely more complicated.

You can fix the face card problem with count jack for 11, queen for 12 and king for 13 and work in mod 13
@henryD9363
@henryD9363 3 года назад
How would that work if you only retained the last digit of the sum, as shown? His method shows the grand total as a number from 1 to 9. How could you possibly use just 9 values to determine which of the 13 values was removed? You can't. It's mathematically impossible. In other words, you have 13 different card values but only a single digit grand total. But to handle all 13 values you could count up the value of each card, 1 thru 13, and then subtract the grand total from 364. The difference will indicate the value pulled out. I don't think it's mentally practical to do a full running count. It becomes a three digit number pretty quick.
@gencolik
@gencolik 3 года назад
@@henryD9363 you can do the same trick with 10's to 13's . Thats why I said that "mod 13" When you pass 13, you can subtract 13 to the sum and continue.
@harryhowdidhe

@marcreyes6169 Месяц назад
The principle behind this trick is that the sum of the non-face cards is 220, so the missing card is difference from next 10's, A variation that includes the face cards: (1) If you count jack as 11, queen as 12, and king as 13. The sum of all 52 cards is 364. (2) Subtract the final digit-sum from 14 (instead of 10). Cast out any tens-digit. The ambiguity is when the difference is 1,2, or 3. If 1 it is a king or a 3; if 2 it is a queen or a 2; if 3 it is a jack or ace. Then scan the deck to resolve the ambiguity.
@barnicle77
@barnicle77 Месяц назад
A more straightforward method is to "just" have J=11,Q=12,K=13 like marcreyes6169 but use mod13 instead of mod10. Sum just as "A Million Card Tricks" is doing now BUT keep sums 12 or less (like he was keeping 9 or less) and if you reach 13 or more, then subtract off 13. So (sum=9)+(Queen=12)=21 then -13 -> sum=8 ... or it might be easier for people when they get a Q to subtract 1 and for Jacks-> -2 when it is more convenient. And just like you could ignore 10's before, you can ignore K's now. When you get to the end, just take 13-sum= value of missing card (so sum=0 means it is a 13-0=King). One very slight change to marcreyes6169 (beside clarifying where he says J=11... K=3 but seems to have meant K=13) is to count J=1, Q=2, K=3 ... since this is basically the same thing since this is all mod10. And just to clarify, at end take 14-sum and 11 means Jack or Ace, 12 means Queen or 2, 13 means King or 3 or as he says "cast off any tens-digit" => 11->1 means Jack or Ace, 12->2 means Queen or 2 & 13->3 means King or 3 .
