I forget stuff all the the time and prospective memory is really my saving grace. I can't tell you how many umbrellas, pairs of sunglasses and scarves I've lost over the years. People frequently run after me with items xD I've learned not to trust myself with that and put this stuff away right when I don't need it anymore. I was actually diagnosed with ADHD some years ago and the strategies they give you to cope with basically having a malfunctioning short term / working memory are real life savers xD

Blocking: The concept derived from Pavlovian conditioning that associations or learning attributed to a stimulus will not occur if those associations are redundant or superfluous. For example, a lab animal may learn that a red light signals food. If a green light follows and just as reliably predicts food, the animal will not learn to associate green with the food, since prior learning 'blocks' the association. Blocking should not be confused with blockheadedness, which is characterized by an inability to learn new and better explanations to an event once the first explanation is fixed in your mind. from Dr. Mezmer’s World of Bad Psychology, at an internet near you!

I might have transience, it just happened today.. my father asking but im not sure he is. So i doubt myself and having this depersonalisation(?) kind of "was that real?" "Was he asking me?" It happened a lot and over time i just ignore everyone because im not sure theyre engage with me, i just feel something is wrong and that is my memory

didn’t get the difference between blocking and absentmindedness, could you kindly elaborate on them?
@PsychExamReview
@PsychExamReview Год назад
Absentmindedness is a failure to direct attention to an existing memory at the right time, while blocking is a retrieval failure when actively attempting to recall a memory. Hope this helps!

Is this lecture for undergraduate students studying BSC in psychology? Do we need to study this part or it is for masters level? Please let me know. :)
@PsychExamReview

These lectures are intended to cover all the major topics in introductory psychology courses for a bachelor's degree though the level of detail for certain topics will vary in different courses. I try to cover the level of detail included in most introductory psychology textbooks, though it's worth noting that most introductory textbooks cover far more detail than can actually be taught in a single course. Hope this helps!

@@PsychExamReview thank you for sharing your knowledge. Your video has helped me a lot. Can you also cover forgetting interference and forgetting retrieval part? I want to make my note on it. 🧚‍♀️💃

Is there any way you could relate the sin of blocking to the moon landing conspiracy theory? It’s my psych project topic and would appreciate some guidance or ideas! Thank you
@PsychExamReview
@PsychExamReview 2 года назад
Blocking might relate, maybe if someone knows they know some aspects or reasons for the conspiracy but can't bring them to mind. The role of bias in memory could certainly play a role in conspiratorial thinking and might be something else you could look into
