One of my best friends called me over to his house after his grandfather died. At one point, he went away to the kitchen to cry, so I went in and held him. To this day, we both agree it’s one of the most beautiful moments of male vulnerability and friendship we’ve experienced in our lives. I hope that for others.

@Zealant
@Zealant Год назад
@@AC-mp7cx Okay, but let's unpack that a little. Men being affectionate with each other is demonized, leads to isolation, feeling like they don't matter because they can't get or don't even realize they need that affection because it's taboo, and the perpetuation of the demonization is a social issue that gets internalized just like any oppression can get subconsciously internalized by the victims. When men lack self-awareness about these things, and straight men especially can only look for intimacy in women who are 'more than friends,' their existence begins to be seen as inherently problematic because they want to die on that hill rather than consider conversations like this.
@bluefootedpig
@bluefootedpig Год назад
@@chanajeffus4371 I think he is saying that isn't the problem. Not saying Trevor was treating people bad. It is society. Not sure I entirely agree, but I do know men often leave their friends for a relationship. Hence the phrase, "bros before hoes"... because typically it is hoes before bros. There is a ton of stand up comedy about men "disappearing" to date someone, only to come back a few months later to rejoin the group.

I think he absolutely nailed it. When you look at how many mental issues men face when they are single, as opposed to single women who seem to be typically faring much better, I think that the biggest reason for that is men not having an alternative emotional outlet beyond a partner. Male friendships are often too detached, or not expected to involve expressing feelings for one another.

Absolutely. Now that I think of it. @@AC-mp7cx In some ways, I think you just agreed with me- you just disagree with HOW men feel like they are valued and not demonized. Is there some level of demonization that happens to straight cis men right now? Maybe in some communities online, but not in the real world, to any extent. Comparing men and women, women, in my experience, have much deeper connections with their close friends, whereas me and my guy friends can talk and play video games every day without really going much deeper than surface level. I've had a friend commit suicide, and he seemed normal but lonely until the day he took his own life. A lot of troubled men, including school shooters, tend to follow that same trend. Because of this, single women tend to be more well adjusted than men, because men rely heavily on that relationship to dump all their emotions into- maybe things have changed in recent generations, but that's been my experience. If you listen to red pillers, they tend to follow the high school route of valuing high body counts for establishing a sense of importance or self worth, and the other means of improving your life are kind of a means to an end. That's why people like Andre Tate always brag about how many women they're with and show them off on camera. The problem is, most guys can't pull that off, even if that weren't a dumb way to find meaning in life. Instead, it's much more reasonable to just form close friendships, but that's not the cultural norm at the moment.

This is such an important conversation! We need more of this, men and women, the conversation around intimacy and how much it means. Thank you Trevor! I sincerely pray you the best in your newest life journey, and I personally would love to see you host a podcast or something. You’re wisdom is truly valuable. Many Blessings to you!

YES TREVOR!! This would help women too, men’s emotional capacity would grow if they felt more free to be intimate in conversation with one another instead of relying on their female partners for all of it. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

This is the conversation we have been trying to have in gender based violence prevention work for decades. So glad to see hear people like Trevor taking it mainstream with such heartfelt clarity and thoughtfulness...on point! This is a great example of how everyone suffers from socialization into rigid patriarchal gender roles and a false gender binary.

My mind immediately went to the same place. Without saying he's talking about the need for men to be vulnerable in order to be whole, he's talking about it 💜

I love this so much. I'm glad that I live in a city, Portland Oregon, where the men seem to be breaking boundaries of long hugs in public and dancing together at shows and forming groups like Mankind that help them talk to each other about their hearts problems.

A similar post in psychology today talked about men being lonely because women essentially have better options and don't have to date toxic men. In summarizing that poorly, but essentially the article was arguing if men don't want to be lonely they need to go to therapy.

Alot of dudes aren't toxic. Just average and women have so many options, those average or below average men fall below the cracks. No amount of therapy can fix a bad hairline or unattractive face.

100% this is my favorite piece Trevor has ever done. Beautifully said, sensitive, and on point, it was the best response to a a story that desperately needed to be reframed.

While listening to this it made me think about that episode of Game Of Thrones when soldiers from the Unsullied were paying prostitutes just to cuddle while a song was being hummed to them. The men just needed to be held, comforted and to feel safe in the moment. Powerful scene.

Actually got my eyes wet. And I was mildly dismayed when the audience laughed at the "I just want to be held" stuff. I get that it was maybe a bit of a nervous laugh but it shows that we really don't talk about this, at least not comfortably. I tell my guys "I love you" sometimes. Without the "dog" or "man" or "dude" or whatever.

Thank you Trevor. I think you hit the nail on the head. This is a conversation we all need to have both with family & friends and as a society. Intimacy and Presence with another human being is life affirming. Compassionate Touch allows us to feel connected, seen, heard and valued. I was a medical massage therapist & ended up doing massage for emotional healing. Both men & women would often verbalize how touch deprived they were. They would often cry and say they felt so grateful to be touched with caring nurturing energy. It is a reason so many people have pets - the give and receive life affirming connection. What a blessing you have brought up this subject.
