I was very fortunate to be at this game watching it live in the stadium. It was such an amazing experience, and the win just topped it off. I could remember the electricity in the crowd. The euphoria was absolutely amazing! It would be great if you the entire match could be uploaded for view
It was Australia's first ever Olympic gold medal in the men's field hockey of the Olympic Games after an agonishing wait of 48 years. Those near misses in the 1968,1976 and 1992 when Australia had to settle for the silver medal especially the last final at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics losing to Germany 2-1 was a painful one. But twelve years later at the 2004 Athens Olympics Australia finally got the gold they had long sought after with a 2-1 victory extra time win over defending champions Holland who had won the gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. But Australia had to wait for the winning goal coming from Jaimie Dywer in the 78th minute.
Man! I know my aunt is friends with the golden trio and their faimly but I would die if i meet an Australia keeper. So mhch better than seeing Dwyer sometimes
I remember Holland beat Australia comfortably in the group stages. Their defense was absolutely solid and stubborn. Then they hammered Germany in the semi final. But hats off to Australia for turning the tables in final.
Great. Would have been awesome, but I agree with Mr X. still, awesome. How was Brooksie's goal? Jamie fooled him too for a second, lucky he adapted quickly.
This game has got Hollywood fairy tale written all over it. Great team, never won the gold, go one down, have to score twice, get one back and literally moments before full time... Penalty corner. They have to score, this just has to go in. They pick their variation, ball comes out and they execute. How many better sporting stories are there?
