Fighting for a spot in semi-final action, Belgium and Spain certainly made it a much more interesting game than anyone looking at the score would guess.
Spain hopped on top in the bottom of the 1st with a little small ball, helped along by a double off the bat of Oscar Angulo. It took Beligum three more chances but they tied things up in the top of the 4th with a helping hand from the Spanish defense.
Things held until the 6th. Spain jumped ahead by two that inning and added another run in each of the next two, off solo dingers from Edison Valerio and Jesus Ustariz. Between them, Belgium loaded up the bases and made a valiant run at the lead.
Not to be deterred, they redoubled their efforts in the top of the 9th and may just have ended up with the short end of a tough play call to finish things off.
On offense it was quite the day for guys playing the fourth position. Oscar Angulo, pictured in the video thumbnail, had three hits on the day. Spain's 2B finished with 2 doubles and an RBI over 4 at bats. Dennis De Quint, who covered the bag for Belgium, went 2-4 with 2 RBIs.
