You are correct about difference b/t ATP and WTA forehand preparation takeback. The reasons are: Men hit ball a lot faster bc stronger arms, bicept, triceps, body.... and especially very fast acceleration so men forehand has to have a short takeback, otherwise they would hit late and balls pass them. In other hand , women are weaker, hit balls slower, so they need to take back further to generate more power and have more time to prepare and hit balls.

Great analysis of the difference in ATP vs WTA forehand and the reasons why one or the other may be more suitable for a player. Have experimented with both and my body feels better with the ATP. It truly is worth the time learning the subtle differences in stroke techniques as it can make a huge difference to the individual when applied.

@@oneminutetennis There is a ton of tennis instruction out there, as you know, but plenty of it doesn't go deep enough & some others are overly technical making it difficult to distill.

Steve, I'm currently switching to ATP forehand. Getting more pop but slow junk balls shank more often. Pointing butt cap have too much time ro think about it. Lovely when dictatng play though, opponent even more intimidated with rapid fire 👍

I have some doubts with this logic. Rybakina is one of the tallest WTA players on tour and she uses an ATP forrehand. The reason I believe that the WTA tour in the past have stayed the WTA forehand is because as juniors they struggle with generating power and so a longer stroke was the only way to do it. But as they grew stronger, there was no pressure to change because they didn't see other women changing their forehands. But now, new WTA players like Raducanu, Fernandez, and Sakkari all use the ATP forehand. And so there will be pressure in the future to change as they see more WTA players use the ATP forehand.

Good points... Will also note that women have wider hips, strong lower body and relatively weaker shoulders and forearms. This might explain why the WTA style is popular with women. 🤔 Body type: Men and women are built differently, and this affects their tennis strokes. Men tend to have wider shoulders and stronger upper bodies, which allows them to generate more power with a "pat the dog" forehand. Women, on the other hand, tend to have wider hips and stronger lower bodies, which makes it more difficult for them to generate the same amount of power with this type of swing. Swing path: The "pat the dog" forehand requires a more vertical swing path, which can be difficult for women to execute due to their body type. Women tend to have a more horizontal swing path, which is why they often use a different type of forehand stroke. Grip: The "pat the dog" forehand is typically hit with a semi-western grip, while women typically use a more eastern grip. This difference in grip can also affect the way the ball is hit.

This explanation makes more sense to me. As more and more women adopt the better version of the FH, their peers and the junior coaches will be forced to learn the proper (ATP) FH technique .

In general, don’t use one player as an exmample to dispel a theory…that person may be an anomaly. Also it appears that he is saying ryb has a wta forehnad…she is even in the video. Her takeback isn’t as far but I would not call it an atp forehand… what you said about juniors is true but thats another topic. A lot of male junior players have the wta forehand and switch as they get older.

@@ajollypanda4175 He cited a few players. " But now, new WTA players like Raducanu, Fernandez, and Sakkari all use the ATP forehand. " Don't see why you are claiming that he is using one player to dispel a theory.

Another difference is that the ATP stroke often has the strings pointing straight down ("Pat The Dog) whereas the WTA stroke never has the strings pointing straight down. Is there a reason for this? 🤔 Serena WTA Forehand with strings never facing straight down. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XaXK8J4GUBY.html
